Youth / Reserve Team Thread... 2010 - 2013

Is the WH goalkeeper named Smeagol?

Apparently it's Spiegel. (And Gnasher is Nasha!)

Liverpool U21s: Ward, McLaughlin, Roddan, Wisdom, Coady, Shelvey, Ignacio, Teixeria, Carr, Suso, Sterling. Subs: Morgan, Belford, Randall, Petersson, Bijev.

West Ham United U21s: Spiegel, Driver, Shaw, Nasha, Potts, Spence, Turgott, Moncur, Paulista, Bywater, Lee. Subs: Maguire, Larkins, Marlow, Miles, Page.

Is Jonjo too psycho to be given a chance at DM, he pressurizes opponents and chases really well. Maybe I'm just still a little inebriated from yesterday

I don't see why not if he keeps working at it. As others have pointed out, Gerrard was a bit 'psycho' himself at that age so it is possible to learn how to control that aspect.

After pretty much bypassing Carr in the first place, it looks as though the players have been told to pass to him in the second half, with the result that several attacks have broken down because they've gone for passes that weren't on. Suso still looking very, very good.

I don't remember Wisdom trying to run that much and that far out with the ball when he played CB at this level in the past. Looks like his run as the RB at the senior level has put that in him, or he's feeling much more confident now in his ability to take the ball out of defence since that senior team spell.

And another demonstration of shit set piece defence.

2-2, a strange hoisted corner that seemed to put the defence in a trance, and the West Ham player headed in unmarked. Shambolic.

Adam Morgan on for Carr, Conor Randall on for McLaughlin. Feel a bit sorry for Carr, he barely got any service.

I'll shut up about it now, but I just cannot see why they're persisting with Sterling. He appears to have been given a free role in the second half, flitting back and forth from left to centre to right, but he's not thinking quickly enough to supply the final ball.

Shelvey and Suso are impressing in this half. The rest are making some sloppy errors. Very frustrating performance.

Tell you what - as badly as we defended all 3 corners, a better keeper would have come out for at least two if not all of them. We really seriously need to look at the goalkeeping department because Ward, Fulton, etc. are all pretty poor.

Frustratingly sloppy at times. The defence just lacked any organisation - Coady got some good blocks in, Wisdom did okay, McLaughlin was sound coming back from injury, but, really, at set pieces they might as well just awarded a goal and moved on, it was pitiful. In midfield, much better, with Shelvey and Suso linking up well, and Suso easily MOTM. A waste of a trial for Carr, seeing as no one looked to pick him out in the first half, then went for passes that weren't on in the second.
