Youth / Reserve Team Thread... 2010 - 2013

Breakthrough 1-0 to LFC. Free kick from the right, finds Lloyd Jones in the box and he slips it in. Now the game can start!

2-0, Jack Dunn runs on from the right and smacks the ball home! Muscular, direct and composed!

After concentrating so hard for almost an hour, Hull's players are suddenly looking very disjointed and frustrated as LFC play calm and clever football. More chances for us, and if they're not careful one or two bookings for Hull.

Ibe already getting more room into which to run as Hull try to attack.

FT LFC 3 Hull 0.

A good win, showing patience and intelligence in the face of a very well-organised and obdurate Hull side.

Only one poor performance, from Baio, but he was filling in for McLaughlin and made some clumsy challenges. Otherwise a very solid team effort.

Lloyd Jones was Hyypia-like: a rock in defence and then going up into their area to get a goal from a free kick.

Lussey played a couple of sumptuous balls forward, showed good leadership and was a calm presence in the centre.

Trickett-Smith made a couple of good runs into the box, played a very clever little chip to set up Sinclair and was generally smart and alert.

Rossiter is a precocious talent - mature, vocal, confident and always looking to play a positive ball. Great prospect.

Sinclair works hard for Ibe, and is as unselfish as Ibe is the opposite, so isn't as noticeable, but is a clever player. No luck tonight.

Ibe scared the Hull players with his pace and power. In the first half they put two defenders on him, but once we scored he got more room and their right back was shattered by the end.

Man of the match was Dunn - he's just so positive, and a really feisty player. Got two goals, could easily have had a hat trick and generally showed real passion and poise.

Yeah, I watched this rather than Barca! Hull were set up to frustrate us, and they certainly did that in the first half, even if we completely dominated the possession stats. Rossiter looks a fantastic prospect for his age. He has terrific awareness, and has a wiry physicality that is very reminiscent of a certain SG. Like Macca, I thought Jones was very impressive; big, unflappable in defence and with two key contributions in attack. Not the best of nights for Sinclair again who looked a bit fed up tonight. Nevertheless, he was frequently in the right place to capitalise on occasions were our players might have created chances for him. Whilst Ibe was closely watched by their team, there were still flashes of his fantastic pace and power. Lots of class here. I think the team missed McLaughlin's presence, and I hope he is back in to face Chelsea.

Thanks for the updates macca. Too bad I couldn't find any streams. Glad for Dunn - I think this kid's going places and I really like the cut of him. Jones looked a bit raw the couple of times I've seen him but he has good size and mobility. In fairness, it's no shame to look a bit out of depth when being tested by the talented Sporting Lisbon sides. Sama made great progress in the last season or two in the U-21s; I'm hopeful Jones will make the same sort of improvement in the years ahead.

Found clips for 2 of the 3 goals here:

Thanks for that. Bookmarked the uploader's youtube channel now. Rossiter's interception and pass for Dunn's second goal had a Gerrard-like look to it.

Dunn has a very powerful left footed shot; I wonder where he will eventually settle positionally; I've seen him play almost every position above the defence (I think he was used as a striker in one game and scored if I remember correctly).

Liverpool to snap up Polgar
March 11, 2013

Liverpool look set to sign youngster Kristof Polgar after the Hungarian impressed during a trial on Merseyside.

Polgar, 16, caught the eye of the Anfield club after taking part in two separate trials earlier this year, and the Reds are now expected to offer the centre-back a contract.

The player’s representatives are hopeful that a deal will be put in place to take Polgar to England on a permanent basis.

"Kristof trialled with Liverpool on two occasions earlier in the year, and he and his parents are currently in Liverpool enjoying the hospitality of the club,” Tibor Pataky, director of the Careers Management Group which owns Polgar's registration, told www.csakfoci.hu.

"We are looking forward to an exciting day, and in a few days the Hungarian presence at Liverpool will be extended."

Liverpool already have two Hungarians amongst their ranks, with goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi in their first-team squad, and Krisztian Adorjan the captain of their Under-21 team.

Interesting to compare this team to the very good Youth Cup team of 2011

It looks like the older team is going to provide at least 3, maybe 4 or 5, useful squad members, so there's no doubt it was a good team. I think this year's side is even better, though, especially going forward. All of those front 6 have a chance with us IMO, and I'd be surprised if any of them don't make it as a PL player.

Jones, Rossiter, Lussey, Trickett-Smith, Dunn, Ibe, Sinclair all look like excellent prospects and McLaughlin

I'd agree. So that's 8 of 11 with a good chance of coming through. That's nuts. I remember between them the Cup winning teams of 06 and 07 had maybe 3 or 4 players you felt might make it: Hobbs, Paul Anderson, and Spearing. Kelly must've been about around then but don't remember him playing, guess he was injured. The current squad is just on a completely different level.

What of Adorjan? He seems an intelligent player, but has never been mentioned as potential first team material.

When he's good he's really interesting in a progressive role, and to be fair to him he's starting scoring more often this season, but even at this current level he sometimes seems anonymous (there's a teensy bit of Berbatov about him in the somewhat languorous way he plays), and that's the challenge for him. I think the coaches can see there's genuine potential there but he really needs to impose himself on games now.

I think ultimately he'll fall by the wayside. Not very versatile and even in his best position he has loads of more impressive players to compete with: Coutinho, Suso, Shelvey, Teixeira, Dunn, Trickett-Smith, even Ibe. It's going to be too hard for him IMO.

Under 18s v West Ham on at the moment. Liverpool leading 1-0 with a great team move finished off by the fast-improving Trickett-Smith.

Team: Crump; Randall, Cleary, Brewitt, Hart; Branagan, Rossiter, Ojo; Peterson, O'Hanlon, Trickett-Smith

Is this the same Smith that we bough from Crewe? Can't remeber that he was called "Trickett".

HT LFC 1 WHU 0.

Decent play so far. Trickett-Smith lively playing further up than usual. Ojo working hard and showing some nice touches. Rossiter and Peterson once again looking very promising. O'Hanlon (left winger) did well to set up the goal but has since been infuriatingly sloppy getting caught offside.

O Hanlon went over to Liverpool, from a local Dublin club, as a left back.
Are they trying to convert him into a winger or just trying to broaden his experience do you think Macca?
