Youth / Reserve Team Thread... 2010 - 2013

O Hanlon went over to Liverpool, from a local Dublin club, as a left back.
Are they trying to convert him into a winger or just trying to broaden his experience do you think Macca?

I think so, yes. He has played LB but apparently they think he's got the right attributes to play as a winger. I quite like him but he's still quite raw.

They paid quite a bit for him too as far as I.remember.
I seem to recall reading he was going to get close to £2m over the course of three years.
Not bad for a sixteen year old

74 mins, Randall off for Niall Heaton. Still 1-0. Allardyce has spread his influence down to this age group by the look of it, WHU have made this a dull match. I'm a bit disappointed in Ojo this half, he looks like he's just going through the motions. The rest are doing pretty well, with Cameron Brannagan (usually an attacking midfielder/winger but today he's been all over the place) bustling about in midfield and Trickett-Smith getting in a few shots, but not enough penetration as far as passing is concerned.

FT 1-0 to the Reds.

A pretty scrappy match, with WHU being muscularly negative and a workmanlike LFC struggling to find a way through them. A very fluid, stylish team move for the first half goal, but otherwise not much else except a few speculative shots from outside the area. Goalscorer Trickett-Smith was probably Man of the Match, with honorable mentions to O'Hanlon, Brannagan, Rossiter and Peterson. Ojo caused a few problems down the left but he really has much more to give than we saw today. He needs to show a bit more aggression and arrogance.

Ha... I thought the same thing when watching the U-21s play. They scored 3 via corners of course - brilliant stuff right from the Allardyce book of winning football.

He plays on the wing for Ireland underage and not at left back lately. But he hasn't even been selected for Ireland's latest U17's squad and this is his last year at this age group. They are playing three matches next week. Dan Cleary has been called up to the squad though.

Cheers for that mate.

LFC v Wolves: Gulacsi, McLaughlin, Roddan, Sama, Jones, Coady, Dunn, Teixeira, Morgan, Nacho, Ibe.
Subs: Peterson, Fulton, Maguire, Baio, Bijev

LFC.tv 7pm kick off

One of the mods on TiA tweeted tonight that he's been told Ibe and McLaughlin will make their first team debuts this season.

Penalty to liverpool, McLaughlin beating the opposing fullback going into the box and was pulled down.

* very Glen Johnson

Evenin' all.

Liverpool have started the second half quite brightly. Good tempo. Coady physical and positive in midfield. Ibe agreeably greedy. Teixeira tricky around the box. Dunn picking up where he left off.

Lovely powerful run down the right by Teixeira to set up Nacho, who hits it on target only to be deflected wide off Morgan.

Commentators are going on and on about his strenght - for someone who looks so 'light,' he looks very good on the ball and it's hard to knock him off it ...

we really should get a 'partnership' going with Sporting where we can take their young 'uns and loan 'em players in return.

Yes! I'm actually amazed they let him go when they did, it just seemed like he helped them to outclass us so we just took him!

Ha ha, the otherwise excellent McLaughlin tries to head the ball but proves he's only marginally better than Glenn Miller in the air. Oh well, everyone has something to improve on in his game!

Yes, he has a bit of everything - great vision, a good range of passes, lots of tricks, surprisingly strong and increasingly confident. He certainly deserves a chance at some point in the near future.

2-1 to LFC. Dunn, set up by Nacho. Lovely, typical, powerful run through the middle and shrugs off a defender either side of him to get in the area and score past the keeper.

I just started watching the game, why isn't Suso playing?
He's not in Spain's U21 team.
