Youth / Reserve Team Thread... 2010 - 2013

It seems Spurs' excellent Liverpool scout shadowing network extends to the youth as well. Not sure why this kid is getting so much attention; he looked okay in that game he played for us while on trial here. Granted, he didn't get much service, but still, there seems to be too much hype around him all of a sudden. Splendid agent and PR team perhaps?

Tottenham join Liverpool and Chelsea in hunt for teen sensation Daniel Carr

TOTTENHAM are the latest Premier League club to show an interest in Daniel Carr, one of the country's most sought-after young talents.

The 18-year-old striker plies his trade for Dulwich Hamlet in Ryman One South, SEVEN leagues below the Premier League, where he has scored 24 goals in 25 games.

Carr caught the eye of Liverpool and travelled to Anfield for a week-long trial at Anfield earlier this month. On his return to London, Champions League holders Chelsea expressed an interest in signing him.

But now Andre Villas-Boas' Tottenham are having Carr watched to see if he could make the grade at White Hart Lane.

Dulwich Hamlet took on Hythe Town on Saturday with a Spurs scout in attendance to cast an eye over Carr's credentials.

Carr played for Reading's academy as a winger but has since been transformed into a striker by Dulwich manager Gavin Rose.

If Carr does seal a move to the Premier League he would follow in the foot-steps of Peter Crouch and Ian Wright, who both turned out for Dulwich before making the grade at the top level.

Dulwich are challenging for the Ryman One South title and are three points off of top spot.

But with the Spurs scout in attendance on Saturday their title challenge faltered as they went down to a 1-0 defeat to Hythe. Carr had few sights at goal and was booked for his efforts in the first half.

He started on the bench against Horsham on Tuesday night but came on in the second half and scored their fourth goal in a 4-1 win.

Yes, a bit strange. I guess it must be pretty unsettling to go from club to club for a game at a time. At Liverpool, as you say, the other players bypassed him most of the match, making the exercise a waste of time. Then again, all of this 'sensation' stuff sounds a bit silly.

Coady and Peterson are on LFCTV at the moment, sitting next to what appears to be the ghost of Fernando Torres, but is actually LFC Ladies player Natashie Dowie.

Is that Ian Dowie's daughter?
I was expecting for her to look like Mickey Rourke's arse.
The gene pool be fucked up

Dean Saunders on Jack Robinson

Saunders has hinted at playing both left-backs Stephen Ward and Jack Robinson against Middlesbrough: “I’ve got that option with Sako injured,” he said.

“Wardy can play in front of Jack if he needs to.

“We’ve got some competition now at right back and left back."

Saunders has been pleased with on-loan Robinson - who scored for England under-21s on Thursday night.

"He’s only 19 and he’s learning all the time," he said.

“Both him and Matt Doherty have done well to walk into a Championship situation that we’re in from the Under-21s league.

“Jack is aggressive – we saw that tackle on Paul Anderson and then he put in another straight afterwards on Albert Adomah.

“They were clean tackles but he just showed some aggression.

“It sends a message out ‘you’re not getting your own way against me’."

I find it useful to know the exact ages of these lads as it helps put their progress in context, so thought I'd share that as per Twitter both Harry Wilson and Jordan Rossiter recently turned 16.

Trickett-Smith brace secures point

A dramatic injury-time goal from Daniel Trickett-Smith earned Liverpool a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at the Academy on Wednesday afternoon.

Steve Cooper fielded a very young side and the blizzard-like conditions made life far from easy for the teams.
Nonetheless, things started well for the FA Youth Cup semi-finalists when Trickett-Smith fired Liverpool in front after just 40 seconds courtesy of a Kris Peterson assist.
Spurs fought back to level through Roman Michael-Percil before the winger also claimed a second after the break with a cross from the right edge of the box via a deflection off Yalany Baio.
However, in stoppage-time, Trickett-Smith salvaged a point for the Reds when he turned and fired home to secure a 2-2 draw.

That's a very useful article for someone who has not seen our games, has no means by which to see repeats of those games, and has no friends or family who have seen the games and can tell them what happened or what changed.

In such circumstances, you would definitely need as many simple bitesize statistical analyses as possible to keep on top of things.

I think its a very obvious observation as you point out, but I wanted to get figures on it in terms of appearances and minutes played just to see the difference.

Not as obvious is where the team ranked in the league based on the 20 games before Christmas and the 10 games afterwards, though we all knew we were good but again I wanted to put figures on it.

The figures would be misleading, as they will contain a component that is a function of our fixtures being easier, lucas coming back, signing coutinho, not having cup games to prepare for etc etc.

So if you want an accurate figure for the damage caused by wisdom and suso, the best bet is to think about it and then guess

Yep, not having the Europa League and Carling Cup has been a factor as our squad was stretched a bit more before Christmas.

I wouldn't term it as 'damage', they are just young lads thrust into the team at a difficult time and did their best and it will stand to them in the long run. However, for the good of the team, its better to rely on senior players that are performing well than hope that young inexperienced players can bring their A-game on a consistent basis.

LFC under 18s v Stoke. 0-1 at HT.

Team: Fulton,Burke, Maguire, Whelan, Heaton; Rossiter, Brannagan; Wilson, Trickett-Smith, O'Hanlon, Kent.

First half a decent performance, with LFC unlucky to be down to a penalty: Rossiter good as usual, my most improved young player of the year Trickett-Smith looking really lively in an attacking role, and Ryan Kent has also been positive, although sometimes dribbling himself into dead ends.

For quite an inexperienced team they're playing some very nice stuff in Stoke's half, but they're a bit chaotic in defence.
