Youth / Reserve Team Thread... 2010 - 2013

England U19s Head Coach Noel Blake has selected his first squad for the new season, as the Young Lions travel to Germany for what should be a stern test ahead of October's First Qualifying Round for the 2013 European Championship.

Goalkeepers: Jordan Pickford (Sunderland), Jonathan Sutherland (Manchester United).

Defenders: Tyler Blackett (Manchester United). Eric Dier (Sporting Lisbon), Adam Jackson (Middlesbrough), Daniel Potts (West Ham United), John Stones (Barnsley).

Midfielders: Nathaniel Chalobah (Chelsea), John Lundstram (Everton), James Ward Prowse (Southampton), Nick Powell (Manchester United), Nathan Redmond (Birmingham City),

Forwards: Chuba Akpom (Arsenal), Jack Barmby (Manchester United), Max Clayton (Crewe Alexandra), Adam Morgan (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Blair Turgott (West Ham United).

Under 18s 1 up against Palace. Another goal for Sinclair. I'm not sure I've seen a better finisher come through at Liverpool since... well, in a long time. he really looks like an incredible talent.

Threw the game away though !

Ha- luckily I didn't come back to this! Pity for Dunn.

Sinclair looks like a monster in the making.

... since Nemeth maybe? The kid could really finish. Too bad he had so many injuries. Wasn't Lauri Dalla Valle pretty good at sticking the ball in the back of the net as well, before we sold him to Fulham?

This lad is in a different class. Don't get me wrong, I liked Nemeth- but he never looked like a number 9- he always looked like a number 10 who was performing that role, and had a very good conversion rate. This lad is frightening. He is aged 15, playing at U18 level, and he makes his opponents look like kids. Scores every type of goal, long range curler, rockets, poachers' efforts, and cooly slotting it in. He's a different class. Apparently the Academy staff think he's the next messiah...that's the level we're talking here.

I gave the u18s game a quick watch. Was strange to see them playing a 4231 setup still. I'd expect them to phase it out in time and the front 6 to look more like this:-

Ojo------Sinclair-----Dunn
----Lussey----Smith
-----------Baio

We paid £750,000 to the Baggies for him aged 14. I think that says a lot about our hopes for him.

Somebody was asking who's the last prospect we had as promising as Sinclair, and the answer's simple: Sterling. Comparisons to the likes of Nemeth don't really do it for me: he's a cut above every young striker we've had since Owen came through, with that rare combination of technical exellence and great athleticism.

And it's no secret why: he's one of the best young players in England and we paid big money for him, just like Sterling, and also just like Ibe and Ojo. It's not rocket science, but it's a pretty good tactic nontheless as far as I can see. I only hope we carry on doing it now Comolli and, to a lesser extent, Pep Segura have gone, because us getting hold of these lads was the bright spot of our recruitment over the last couple of years.

The u16s have started the season well, btw, with 2 wins from 2 against Wolves and Palace. I think they won 4-1 against Palace, with a goal each from Rossiter and Marsh and 2 from the very exciting winger Harry Wilson.

Crystal Palace U21 1-3 Liverpool U21

A young Palace side went down s3-1 to Liverpool at Selhurst Park in front of more than 1,500 supporters on Bank Holiday Monday.

First-teamers Matt Parsons and Andy Dorman were among the names on Jamie Fullarton's team-sheet and the left-back in particular stood out as a young side took the game to the visitors early on.

Neat touches from Hiram Boateng and Reise Allassani marked the early stages with Allassani winning a free-kick on the edge of the box that Jason Banton fired over, before Krisztian Adorjan showed notice of his attacking ability without forcing Ross Fitzsimons into a notable save.

Ibra Sekajja was the next to go close, reacting quickest as Danny Ward spilled Banton's fierce drive but the young striker failed to get any significant purchase on his effort enabling Liverpool to clear. Palace had been impressive but Adorjan soon showed why Brendan Rodgers had taken on him the first-team's tour of the US with a real moment of quality. The young Hungarian won a free-kick 20 yards out with a clever nutmeg and stepped up to curl home a fantastic opening goal in off the post.

Sekajja almost had the equaliser less than five minutes later, winning the ball after a slip from Stephen Same but slipping his finish just wide of the post as he bore down on Ward in the Liverpool goal as the visitors held on to their lead at half-time.

Not long into the second half though and Palace were level, Parsons breaking down the left, beating his man by the by-line and smashing a fierce drive into the top corner for a fantastic equaliser. The visitors took that set-back in their stride though and were soon level. Michael Ngoo's cross to the back post not dealt with properly as two Palace defenders collided enabling Jack Robinson to smash home.

Parsons continued to cause real danger down the left as he linked well with Daniel, and Allassani won a string of free-kicks but the Liverpool defence held firm and both Dorman and Banton could only curl efforts over before the visitors sealed victory with a third. Defensive slackness from Palace allowed Adorjan to chip a neat cross into the box that Adam Morgan flicked on for Ngoo to finish simply from five yards out.

A strong home support continued to chant throughout but Liverpool held on comfortably with the visitors' strong defence arguably the difference between the two sides on the day.

Palace XI: Fitzsimons, Wynter, Parsons, Taylor, Holland (Akuruka), Dorman, Banton, Boateng, Sekajja, Allassani, Daniel (Kai-Kai)
Subs Not Used: Chambers, Gregory, Woodley

Liverpool XI: Ward, Flanagan, Robinson, Sama, Wisdom, Coady, Ngoo, Roddan, Morgan, Adorjan, Eccleston (Pelosi)
Subs Not Used: Smith, Belford, Teixeira, Ibe

No Suso and Pacheco. Potentially involved in the Hearts match?

Liverpool and Norwegian second division club Ik Start have reached an agreement over the loan deal for a talented 19-year-old striker Villyan Bijev. The youngster, who spent last season on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf and scored 4 goals in 17 appearances, will be on loan at the Scandinavian club until 31st of December of this year. Liverpool will continue to pay his wages and have been clever enough not to include an option to buy in the deal. Although, if the USA U-20 international impresses the management at his temporary club, he could extend his stay there.

Liverpool signed him last summer on a 5-year-contract from California Odyssey. The Merseyside club more likely to loan Villyan Bijev out at different clubs until 2014 when the American expected to get a work permit due to change of rules in the UK work permit policy.

Villyan Bijev will wear shirt No. 20 and could make his first start this Sunday against Bærum.

Academy starlet Jerome Sinclair was on the mark as England U17s beat Turkey 4-1 in the SGP tournament on Friday night.
After netting a double for the U18s against Crystal Palace last weekend, the teenage striker fired another cracker against Turkey.
Steve Cooper's U18s are in action on Saturday morning when they travel to Manchester City (11am).

His range of passing is very good, too soon to say he'll make it though.

Sinclair scored the third before half-time.

3-0
