Don't look at the races so far, good break for that goal. The first goal (penalty) was nonsense 0-2

great header from Rossiter 1-2

Liverpool been on top since they went two up but finding it hard to break through the Bolton masses protecting their box, until now.

Missed the equaliser. You can see why Ibe isn't a permanent fixture in the first team squad yet, losing the ball too often in bad areas and headless chicken dribbling today.

How did Teixeira and Rossiter do?

I dont think the midfield ever got any sort of rhythm or passing game going thanks to Boltons stifling tactics. Nothing was coming off for Teixeira first half, he kept having the ball nicked off him, he improved a bit second half and had a little more influence. I didn't notice Rossiter that much except that he was still running around after the ball a goal down in the 93rd minute.

A game like that has to be good experience for young lads, not every team is going to want an open game against them.

Not sure what's happened to Dunn. Since Branagan got bumped up and Teixeira's loan got cancelled, it seems that Dunn has been the one losing out on minutes. Saw a rumour that he was to go on loan in January; not sure how true that is but it might not be a bad thing if he can't get any minutes in this team right now.

Thanks for the updates Markeh. Sounds like both weren't on sparkling form but as you said, they'll have to deal with games like these when things don't go their way.

No problem. It's just a shame most of them won't play again until the new year now, ending the year on a bit of a low.

Liverpool scouts' mystery target

NO matter the result of tonight's exhibition match against Melbourne Victory, English giant Liverpool will not only walk away with thousands of new fans but could add another Australian to the list of those who have worn the famous red jersey.

As much as the focus of Liverpool's Asian tour is on its preparation for the new English Premier League season, which kicks off next month, the club has already taken the opportunity to gauge the junior football talent here.

And, according to Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, it appears it has uncovered a gem. But a gem destined to remain hidden, as the club refuses to reveal details of the young player.

Speaking with The Australian yesterday, the Northern Irishman admitted the club's head of recruitment had discovered a 15-year-old he has described as "absolutely outstanding".

"We are always looking to bring in great young talent and our head of recruitment may have found one," Rodgers said enthusiastically.

"I'm not sure where he drove to, but he watched a game outside of Melbourne.

"The pitch was not in the best condition, but he spotted a kid who was absolutely outstanding and he is just 15. That's the sort of talent you have here."

However, Liverpool officials were adamant last night they would not reveal any information about the youngster because they wanted to protect him at this stage and not alert other clubs to his talent.

Perhaps, in years to come, he could join the likes of Craig Johnston, Harry Kewell and, currently, goalkeeper Brad Jones who have worn the red shirt.

"It goes to show you just how good Australians are at sport," Rodgers said. "Clearly they have taken to many sports and football is one of them.

"I've seen the Australian game develop and improve drastically in the last 10 years or so."

Evidently it's this kid:
Victorian teenager Jake Brimmer may realise his dream of playing for Reds

ENGLISH football giant Liverpool's visit to Australia earlier this year was not only a raging success on the field but off it as well with news the club is close to signing one of the country's rising stars.

Australia under-17s captain Jake Brimmer is on the brink of joining Craig Johnston, Harry Kewell, Brad Jones and Dean Bouzanis as those to have played for the famous Merseyside club.

At this stage, there is no confirmation of the deal from Liverpool's end. Brimmer, 16, recently posted an image on Facebook of himself in a Liverpool jersey, proclaiming: "My dream as a kid was to play for Liverpool, fair to say that dream has come true." The photo was taken during one of his two recent trials with the club.

The deal comes as no surprise.

In an interview with The Australian before the Reds' game against Melbourne Victory in July, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers revealed that the club's scouts had discovered a Victorian kid who was "a gem".

"We are always looking to bring in great young talent and our head of recruitment may have found one," Rodgers said. "I'm not sure where he (the scout) drove to, but he watched a game outside of Melbourne. The pitch was not in the best condition, but he spotted a kid who was absolutely outstanding. That's the sort of talent you have here."

Brimmer, a midfielder, is regarded as one of the best young talents in Australia.

Off the field he is described as a good kid who has his feet on the ground, knows what he wants and is at a stage of his football development where he needs to be challenged.

His father, Steve Brimmer, told The Australian the deal had not yet been done, but negotiations were at an advanced state.

"Yes, it is very exciting and we are happy, but there are a couple of little things that need to be sorted before it is a done deal," said Brimmer, who used to play in the Victorian Premier League.

He said he was aware of The Australian's story in July and confirmed it was his son Rodgers had been talking about.

Jake is expected to join Liverpool in July, once he has gained a European passport through his father's Maltese heritage.

He's been playing at Nunawading SC who are a fairly mediocre regional club here in Victoria. I've never seen him play, but some of my ex-teammates have and they claim he's ridiculously good.

Hard to get a gauge on what that translates to outside of U-16 level football in regional Australia, but he's clearly got talent.

U18 vs Man City: Crump, Waldron, Cleary, Brewitt Hart; Burke, Wilson, Marsh, Trickett-Smith, O'Hanlon, Ojo.
Subs: Firth, Maguire, Chirivella, Williams, Canos.

2nd half now. 2 goals in 3 mins has helped overturn a HT 1-0 deficit.

Anyone know if the Yesil rumours are true? Appaz done his cruciate again.
Hope not, he's been very unlucky with injuries.

BR: "I looked at Rossiter in training on Friday playing with first-team players & I thought ‘there’s a boy who you can take to Stamford Bridge and he’ll fight and pass and put his foot in’. It’s something I’ll look closely at. He's an outstanding young talent."

"Brad Smith’s super quick, gets high up the pitch naturally and wants to attack but can defend as well."

Rossiter's some long term prospect much as everyone knows.

I'm even more made up for Smith. I've been singing this lads praises for a while now (before he was injured) as a cracking prospect. He won't be fazed at all, a real sparky, aggressive little full back. Ridges is spot on.

It's the our first youth cup game tomorrow night, and according to the fellows on RAWK, Rossiter and a few others (Ibe, Brannagan, and Jones) had been expected to step down to appear in the game. It'll be interesting to see if Rossiter still does given these comments from Rodgers.

It's a strange team this year. An absolute embarrassment of riches going forward, but weak defensively - the u18s seem to concede about 3 goals a game. Contenders for just the front 6 positions are

Chirivella
Rossiter
Ojo
Phillips
O'Hanlon
Brannagan
Ibe
Kent
Wilson
Trickett-Smith
Canos
Sinclair

Every one of them good prospects.

Brad Smith has surprised me, something happened after that leg injury. He's a different player now.
I remember watching him play in the u17 world cup with Sterling and my impression was that he was great going forward, a very attacking fullback, but he was terrible in defence. Not anymore.
He seems to have become a lot more mature and during that lay off and he's actually become very competent in defence.
I still reckon that Robinson is our best left fullback in the reserves (despite being on loan atm) but Smith is definitely closing in on him.

I remember reading a quote from Rodgers just about a week or two ago about sending Ilori out on loan after he's settled for about six months here. So we may not be selling a CB in January just yet unless Rodgers has changed his mind (won't be the first time). In the summer though, one of the current four will probably be sold, together with Coates.

As for Smith - really glad for him. I wish we'd somehow find a place for Teixeira as well though, even if it's just the FA Cup game against Oldham. He's 20 now and needs a platform to show what he can do at the next level.
