Youth and Reserves thread - 2013/14

That must be a bit awkward for the player, going to another club but still having your employer club dictating how often you should be playing and where. It's hardly going to endear you to your new teammates or supporters is it?

Does that really matter ? Toughen them up but at the same time ensure they play in a style and postion that is going to aid their progression ..... especially as far as LFC is concerned. The loan club wouldn't agree to the loan in the first place if the loan requirements were contrary to their needs.

Ha ha - I saw this thread and thought I wonder how that Hungarian gem is coming along. For some reason I kept expecting him to come good. It was only when I researched a bit and found out Kriszian Nemeth left the club 4 fucking years ago! I officially know nothing about anyone at LFC not in the first team (and even my knowledge of the first team is debatable!) 😳

Life in the lower echelons of the club is pretty exciting RA. There are some pretty sexy things going on.

Well that's mainly true Froggy but the problems come when a chairman or director of football rashly sorts out a loan deal and then the manager doesn't like it. I gather with Brentford the director of football sorted out the deal and then Rosler sulked because he'd asked for two more forwards, so Teixeira was doomed from the start.

who is this 16yr old called up to play for Wales? sounds great

[article]Liverpool teenager Harry Wilson will become the youngest player to represent Wales if he plays against Macedonia or Belgium in their coming fixtures.

The 16-year-old has just been called into Chris Coleman's squad after the Wales manager suffered an injury crisis.

He is a rapid winger, known for scoring long-range strikes, who likes to switch flanks, and came through Liverpool's academy, which he joined aged eight from Wrexham.

Sportsmail brings you five things you didn't know about Harry Wilson...
1. Managed to get a 'C' in GCSE maths this year at the third time of trying.
2. Likes actor Denzel Washington ('doesn't do bad films') and Dynamo Magician ('this guy is on another level of craziness).
3. Dislikes Hollyoaks ('boring') and Peter Crouch's robot celebration ('worst celebration ever').
4. A huge fan of Gareth Bale and Ronaldinho, but his favourite players are Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta.
5. Manchester United passed up the opportunity to take him on as a youngster before he joined Liverpool.[/article]
[article=http://www.dailypost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/harry-wilson-16-year-old-north-wales-6165914]Last night Wilson’s dad Mark said: “It’s been a very excitable day. Harry’s feeling very nervous but excited at the same time.”

The family, who are all keen football fans, had not planned to travel to Cardiff for tomorrow’s match.

But Mark said: “We’ll have to see how it goes but things are changing by the minute.”

Fans hailed the young man’s call-up for the international team.

Jack Wilson tweeted: “Has completely blown my mind that Harry Wilson’s been called up to the Wales squad for Belgium and Macedonia. Good Luck.”

Another fan, Ian Hamer, added: “Craig Bellamy made his Wales debut on 25th March 1998, three days after his new Welsh team-mate Harry Wilson celebrated his 1st birthday.”

Harry was signed by Liverpool when he was just eight years old.

It was a neighbour – former Tranmere Rovers and Welsh international full-back Gareth Roberts’ dad Adrian who spotted Harry’s promise when he saw him practising his ball-juggling skills in his back garden at the tender age of three.

Harry’s mum Nicola said in May 2005: “He’s been kicking a ball since he was 16 months old, playing in the garden with his dad

“Wrexham wanted him. Manchester United wanted him but none of them compares with the European champions do they?”

Football is in Harry’s blood. Grandad John was a skilful midfielder for Corwen Amateurs in the 1970s and dad Mark also played for the club.[/article]

[article=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2459716/England-U18-4-Hungary-U18-0--match-report-Bradley-Fewster-Ryan-Kent-score.html]Middlesbrough's Bradley Fewster and Liverpool's Ryan Kent scored two goals apiece as England thrashed Hungary at St George's Park on Monday afternoon.

Fewster, just 17, has already become a familiar face in the north-east club's Under 21 side and he turned provider for Kent to double the lead shortly afterwards.

Taking down a deep cross to the back post, he showed composure to locate Kent on the edge of the box. The versatile Liverpool midfielder took a touch and then drilled the ball left-footed into the bottom corner.

England were cruising and the two scorers combined again on 38 minutes for the third goal. Although hemmed in by three Hungarian defenders, Fewster back-heeled the ball to Kent, who made no mistake.

And earlier article dated 11 October 2013:
[article=http://www.oldham-chronicle.co.uk/news-features/13/local-sport-news/82838/kent-gets-england-call]A FORMER Royton Cricket Club junior star has been rewarded for some excellent performances for Liverpool FC with a call-up to England’s under-18s squad.

After starring for the Anfield giants so far this season, attacking midfielder Kent has the chance to shine on the national stage.

Head coach Neil Dewsnip has called Kent into the squad which plays Hungary twice — today and on Monday — at the new national performance centre in Staffordshire.

Kent has been with Liverpool for a decade and while he is still waiting for a first-team opportunity under Brendan Rodgers, he has starred for the Reds’ Next-Gen team, the under-18s, under-17s and under-16s in recent seasons.

A Crompton House school spokesperson said: “This is a brilliant opportunity for Ryan and we all wish him luck.”

Manchester United’s highly-rated teenage midfielder from Chadderton, Ben Pearson, is also on England duty this weekend.

Pearson was in Noel Blake’s England under-19s team which drew 1-1 in their UEFA European Under-19s Championship qualifier against Slovenia last night.

Ex-Boundary Park Juniors player Pearson, who now has five caps for England under-19s, has starred for United reserves this season and for the Reds in the UEFA Youth League — a competition which runs alongside the first-team fixtures in the Champions League. [/article]

[article=http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/pitchside-europe/wales-hand-record-cap-liverpool-teen-keep-england-102002945.html]With World Cup qualification unattainable and star player Gareth Bale unavailable, Wales’ final Group A fixture appeared at first to be completely bereft of decent headlines.

But when Liverpool academy starlet Harry Wilson came off the bench to replace Hal Robson-Kanu for the last few minutes of their 1-1 draw in Belgium, Welsh national football history was made.

Wilson, aged 16 years and 207 days, beat Bale’s record as the youngest player to receive a senior cap from the nation – or any of the home nations, in fact.

Not only did he top the Real Madrid superstar by 108 days, but he would spend his maiden minutes as a full-fledged Wales international alongside one of the country’s greats, Craig Bellamy, who was collecting his final cap.

Eighteen years Wilson’s senior, Bellamy is old enough to be the latest Welsh prodigy’s father.

There were, however, slightly cynical undertones to an otherwise-happy evening for player, relatives and supporters alike: Wilson had previously been eligible to turn out for the English national team.

With the FA aggressively targeting promising young non-English talent who earn the right to switch to the Three Lions after tenure at a Premier League academy, their Welsh equivalent took swift action to ensure they did not lose another possible Bale or Aaron Ramsey (who equalised for Wales within moments of Wilson’s debut)

Between an injury crisis and the obvious allure to a 16-year-old to represent the nation he had represented at every youth level, Wales got their man.

The next step for Chris Coleman and his coaching staff, of course, will be to ensure that the exciting yet raw talent is not rushed along and matures into the next big Welsh star.

Harry Wilson was born in Wrexham on March 22, 1997. Back then…
- Michael Owen was the teenage superstar on everyone’s lips at the time
- ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ by the Spice Girls was top of the music charts
- Tony Blair was on the verge of becoming Prime Minister

Wilson is so young, he has still yet to witness…
- Tottenham finish above Arsenal in the league
- Anyone in charge of the Gunners apart from Arsene Wenger
- England reach the semi-finals of a major tournament
- His current club, Liverpool, win the league (maybe he can help fix that…?)[/article]

is this lad actually any good ? i mean is he one of the top players in the U18s and expected to make the first team ?

[article=http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/oct/16/harry-wilson-grandfather-makes-125k-on-bet?CMP=twt_gu]The jubilant grandfather of young football star Harry Wilson is set to bank £125,000 after betting the teenager would play for Wales – back when Harry was only 18 months old.

The 16-year-old Liverpool academy star made his international debut last night – scoring a big win for his grandfather the moment he came on as a substitute.

Peter Edwards, 62, walked into a William Hill betting shop in Wrexham in 2000 and bet £50 on the teenager one day playing for Wales, at odds of 2,500-1.

The teenager scored one for the record books himself during last night's World Cup qualifier against Belgium, becoming the youngest player to represent Wales.

But one life-changing moment instantly gave rise to another when Edwards decided he would retire with immediate effect on the proceeds of his win.

He made the decision in his caravan in Buckingham, where he was working, nervously watching the international clash on his iPad.

The electrical contractor of Corwen, Clwyd, North Wales, works away from home most of the year, spending one weekend a fortnight with wife Dorothy, 58.

"She is over the moon. I retired immediately. I told my manager yesterday that if Harry plays I wouldn't be coming back," he said.

"I've retired one year early. I have come home now and will not be going back. Not bad for a daft bet."

He said he put on the original bet on a whim after seeing how Harry liked playing with a football even as a toddler.

"He used to chase the ball around the front room on his hands and knees even before he could walk, that's what gave me the idea. But I hoped the bet would come up."

He said after Harry enrolled in the Liverpool FC academy his skills quickly developed and he returned to William Hill in the hope of placing a second bet.

"Harry was about 12 then. But they turned me down and said I already had a substantial bet with them. But they threw in England as a gesture of goodwill."

It meant even if the teenager had opted to play for England, something he could have done because his grandmother was born in Chester, the pay-out would have been safe.

Harry himself will also benefit from the win, which Edwards said will ensure regular lengthy journeys to and from Liverpool will be made easier.

He said that as a teenage player with the academy his earnings are still modest and travel costs can be high.

"This means I will be able to help Harry out. You can be quite sure that he will get a share of it," he said.[/article]

Rodgers:
[article]“Ngoo and Teixeira have returned from loan spells because we didn’t feel they were benefiting from their time at those clubs.

“If they’ve gone somewhere and aren’t going to play, we may as well have them back here and get them ready for another loan spell.

“Not all youngsters are good enough, that’s the reality of it. They can’t expect to walk straight into the first team. They have to earn the right to play.”[/article]

Harry Wilson fired twice as Liverpool U18s produced a superb display to beat Blackburn Rovers 4-2 at the Kirkby Academy on Saturday morning.
The youngster, who became the youngest ever player to represent Wales in the friendly international with Belgium in midweek, gave another fine display as Neil Critchley got his first win as U18s boss.
Alex O'Hanlon and Daniel Trickett-Smith were also on the mark, while Jerome Sinclair made his first appearance of the season when he came off the bench for the final 25 minutes.
Wilson gave the Reds the lead before Blackburn equalised two minutes after the restart.
O'Hanlon, Trickett-Smith and Wilson then extended the lead and the returning Sinclair was also unlucky when he was denied by a fine save from the penalty spot before a consolation for the away side made the final score 4-2.
Reflecting on the display, Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com: "The lads' confidence has suffered with a few of the previous games but they thoroughly deserved the win and I'm delighted for them.
"We played some excellent football at times and it was a deserved win. The lads have worked so hard in training and were determined to put things right.
"It was great to have Jerome back from injury and hopefully he can push on now and Harry has had an unbelievable week and will be buzzing at the moment."
Liverpool U18s: Ryan Crump, Connor Randall, Joe Maguire, Dan Cleary, Kristof Polgar, Jordan Williams (Nathan Burke 75), Harry Wilson, Adam Phillips (Will Marsh 80), Ryan Kent, Daniel Trickett-Smith, Alex O'Hanlon (Jerome Sinclair 70).

Undone by a nightmare first 25 mins. Much better after then. Workrate and passing improved. Teixeira and Ibe looking the most dangerous.
West Brom defended excellently in the 2nd half.

LFC v Southampton under 18s

Crump, Randall, Maguire, Williams, Polgar, Chirivella, Wilson, Brannagan, Sinclair, Trickett-Smith, Kent.

(Chirivella is the Valencia player - holding midfielder - who's had to wait until now for international clearance.)

Harry Wilson scores after 4 minutes. 1-0.

2-0 after 14 minutes - lovely goal by Trickett-Smith, a Digger like shot from the edge of the area, cool and clinical.

He came to see a few of the patients the other week I think. With a couple of other players who I know less about. Seemed like a nice lad. Bit rabbit in the headlights with Ill people In their mid twenties like.
