It's not just a question of speed though, Johnson got raped a couple of weeks back by Martin Petrov.
the whole team played as fannies in that game. Should we replace the whole bunch based on that performance?

It's not the only game where he's failed to cut a cross out, the whole team played poorly but that wasn't necessarily the norm for alot of them. Johnson nearly caused problems a couple of times in the first half against Wolves, notably when he passed the ball straight to their player on the edge of our box under barely any pressure.

At best we get one point.
This statement is false.

At best we can get three points.
At 'ok' we can get one point.
At worst no points
Logically you are right.

Realistically at best we get one point because winning against Spurs is not possible.

I think it be this:

---------------------------------------------------------Reina--------------------------------------------------------------
Johnson---------------------------Skrtel-----------------------------------Agger------------------------------Enrique
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------Spearing-----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------Suarez-------------------------------------------------------------Bellamy--------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------Carroll--------------------------------------------------------------
Yup, I'd go with this line-up. I can't wait to see Spearing match-up against Parker*, I have a feeling it's a battle Spearing can win and if he does we should get 3 points.

*Obviously as they're both DM's I'm aware that they won't come up against each other too often but I'm referring to a comparison of their overall performances rather than their one-on-one performance.

While I expect 1 point in my sad and most optimistic expectation, but Roy would be happy for 1 point and would set the team to play for 1 point.

This game is on at a decent hour and it's even on TV, so no shitty stream. I've been looking forward to it all weekend.

We're certain to lose.
Decent hour for whom ?! That's 03.45 in the morning here, yet another 'evening' match meaning I'll be going off to bed at 06.00 !

Petrov had the drop on him in that incident, as Johnson was still coming back form an upfield foray, hardly a straight head to head for speed comparison.

Jesus Froggy, exaggeration aplenty.

This brilliant attacking fullback has scored a mammoth 6 goals for us. An average of what? 2 a season.

He frightens me, for all the wrong reasons.
I think in many games he is just not given licence to attack, hence his low scoring average (but our excellent defensive record) but I'd be more interested in seeing his assists stats than his actual scoring rate.

I'd like to see him given a go on the wing, as you said, I think with Kelly behind him with it would give us solidity and a bit of pace on the break, I just don't really rate him as a fullback at all.

I'd go along with what Dmish says too, although I would bring in Kelly for Johnson.
we're at home, we're liverpool, we shouldn't be scared imo. Johnson is a world class attacking fullback and very good at defence as well. He must start.
He really isn't.
He really is. He has excellent technical ability and frightens the opponent's defence as much as, or more than, any player in our squad bar Suarez. It's defensively he can occasionally go AWOL. I'd love to see him played at RM fir a few matches just to settle that argument once and for all.
Come on Mark, now who's exaggerating??

He's been fantastic for us; as I said he's not world class (depending on your definition of world class) and he certainly doesn't have the pace to match Bale - nobody from Anfield does. However, he really knows how to get forward, has got good pace, can carry the ball well and much better than many want to give him credit for.

As said I don't think there's much wrong with Bales game but one weakness way to minimise his effectiveness is to push him back with constant forays forward. His running and power is easier to handle when he's coming from deep. Johnson is by far the best equipped player in our squad to manage this.

I mean defensively Wiz, I don't feel completely comfortable when he's under pressure, he's fucked up enough times to warrant the concern.

some of our best defensive displays have happened with johnson in the back line. I think it's a little harsh to suggest we have one of the best defensives in the league 'despite' johnson.

Yeah, I'm not buying this myth that Johnson is a bad defender, he really isn't, we have the best defence in the league, that isn't achieved playing with three defenders, as many people would try to suggest.

What I would say is that he does get forward an awful lot & that means positionally he can sometimes be caught out, but like I said, we have the best defensive record in the league yet we score nowhere near enough goals, so when weighing that up I'd prefer to have him attacking occasionally, as our defence clearly doesn't suffer as a result, & our attack has benefited more than once this season.

And as many have been pointing out, attack is the best form of defence against Bale– sitting deep and waiting for him to run at you is a red flag to a bull. He'll be up against Enrique too for much of this game too let's not forget as he tends to switch flanks regularly during games.

Johnson has the odd dip in concentration. And those lead to chances and dangerous loss of possession.

I wish he would just kick the ball out at times instead of trying to play it off the opposition. It works maybe 2 out of 10 times.

Johnson does have the pace to match Bale, I know Bale is shit quick but Johnson isn't exactly slow. I hope Spurs do try and focus on Johnson like everyone is expecting because its a move we'll surely be expecting and I can't see it working as effectively as they'll hope.

johnson bashing is such a cliché now. poor the kenny for not spotting the OBVIOUS flaws in johnson's game and continuing to play him even though there are soooo many better options available to him.

Regarding the line ups...

Haven't we learned our lesson regarding playing Adam against a fast paced midfield like Spurs's's's's.

Hence why I want Hendo to start alongside Stevie and Spearo.

I know Johnson is quick; not as fast as Enrique or Bellamy but he's very quick. Fact remains, however, that none of them have the power running of Bale. His change of pace and continuous acceleration would be too much for Johnson unless he's coming from deep.

Are we really gonna start with anything other than Kuyt and Johnson on the right?

Bellamy perhaps in front of Johnson could be good. Kelly is alright but he's not 100% infallible either, we're at home we should be playing our own game not trying to smother theirs.

Whilst Bale is quicker and a powerful runner, I dont think its enough to say Johnson wouldn't be able to handle it as I think for the most part Johnson is quick enough to keep up with him, the only time I don't think he'd be able to is if he gets a run on him in a counter attack or something like that, so we'll have to make damn sure dam we don't like that happen.

I'd play Downing as he tries to protect the left back.
