Um...I'm stumped, he wins games against Utd, Madrid, and Milan but he loses to Middlesboroguh, Tottenham, and Marseille. So, I'd take Pat Rice or if I had to Boro Primorac as manager if we could. We are in a situation where we pretty much need Arsene Wenger. So lets get a guy who has studied under him. We need to stay low cost, get a stadium built, and find and develop young talent (stars not good squaddies).

I think everyone knows im not a Rafa fan, i dont like him at all. But his 2nd place in the league last year buys him this season from me and thats the bottom line.
My position would probably change if i felt he was doing things to damage our shot at the title, but i dont think that is the case at all. I personally think hes doing everything he can in a shit situation to keep us going.
Hes been lied to by his bosses and he's been blighted by awful fucking luck with injuries and fucking beachballs and shit sendings off.
As i said earlier the squad is all his fault, but this squad as near as dammit went 2nd in the league, so i dont think its entirely fair to say hes going backwards.
I can see why people have turned on him, but for me they are judging him on the past and not the here and now, we arent struggling because of Keane or Dossena (they were both factors last year) maybe Alonso, but he wanted to leave, you cant keep a player who wants to go imo.

Pat Rice. As Liverpool manager.

Fuck me, even I underestimated how much of a fucking retard you are

uch im saying it tongue in cheek man, back at you, (im out of hope, we need a wenger job it seems)

Fucking hell.

Things like this make me feel like I must be wrong about Rafa. Some of the people wo share my opinions are so very stupid.

I think thats a fair assessment of the situation

I think I am out. I was out 2 years ago but have been hoodwinked since. Our squad is desperately lacking in depth and leadership, the manager is mainly responsible for both. It has been a disastrous start to the season in all competitions, and we are looking like little lambs lost at the moment. I fear for our future if we don't finish in the top 4 this season.

Most unusually, we are more or less in agreement.

I wonder where the money is going to suddenly come from? If it had been an option i'm sure they'd have used it in the summer just gone.

They took a gamble and fucked up. Just like Rafa took a gamble with Aqualani that is blowing up in his face

Yeah i agree Vlad.

But i think your kidding yourself if you think that G&H will free up enough money for 3 decent players in January.

If they don't , they will see their investment go down the tubes.

Once again i agree that they will be running a high risk of doing so if they don't, but we all said exactly the same during the summer.

I just think they'll not put in another penny until they finally sell up, which will be sooner rather than later.

We fuck up every year and it's never Rafa's fault, there is always something or someone else to blame.
He came with a five year plan....five years ago, and we are going backwards.
Yes all of a sudden half the team is missing, but the depth of the squad is almost entirely Benitez fault, the in-game decision making is entirely Benitez fault.
That said I don't think who is to blame is the main issue at the moment, it is how to get out of this mess that is the priority. We need to forget about everything, apart from a top four finish, which at this current moment in time is looking like a big ask.
Regardless of who is in charge in the January window we have to snap up two or three decent players regardless of the cost, as the potential cost of not qualifying next year is disastrous.
Those of us with even half a brain knew in the summer we were well short up front, to the point of downright negligence, which has been proved utterly correct. The prospect of two from N'gog , Kuyt Voronin and Babel when Torres was missing filled me with dread, so why the fuck did it not fill Rafa and everyone else in a position of influence with the same feelings.
He didn't come with a '5 year plan'. In fact being the pragmatist he is, when he was appointed in charge of Liverpool he distance himself from the notion entirely.

Agree with the rest, though. I think we've been desperately unlucky this season, but the reason it's cost us to such a high degree is largely the decisions of Benitez.
Are you sure? If so he didn't do a very good job of that either, he's fooled me and loads of other people that he did have a five year plan.

technically the culmanation of the the five year plan (last season) saw us miss out on the eventual champions by four points. we wanted rafa to make us capable of challenging and we challenged and people can't even use the excuse we were overly reliant on gerrard and torres because they were missing for parts of the season.

I have the same recollection as squiggles, he deliberately refused to be drawn into that sort of discussion.

Could be wrong, but it hardly matters.

I think he has been steadily building the team up, but for a variety of reasons, including some that gain him some sympathy from my end, it's come apart thus far this season.

This precipitous failure of late is not a fair estimation of the development under his tenure as far as I'm concerned, but it does lay bare some definite shortcomings; little to no results on substantial outlay on youth, and a mixed bag in the transfer market, with it's worst failures being over the last couple of years.

Rafa has never had any money to spend, it's all the Americans, Rick Parry and the media's fault.

Rafa is great.

Right, there was a five year plan and the culmination of this was to come second behind United and win fuck-all ? That was worth waiting for - not
All we can hope for is that this weakens the Americans bargaining position and someone with pots of money comes in to bale us out of this whirlpool we are heading for - with or without Rafa, I suspect if it does happen it will be the latter.
I am with Rafa 4 pm on this I think things are coming to a head as regards the Yanks not being able to sit on their hands and do nothing

It'll be simple maths for the club's owners.

They'll try to forecast the loss to the club's value by failing to qualify for the 2nd stage of the CL, coming < 4th in the league and appearing to be a club in decline with Alonso gone and Mascherano and God knows who else on the way out in 2010.

Then they'll look at the cost of a negotiated settlement with Rafa.

If they feel they'll end up with a more valuable club by getting rid of Rafa and getting someone else in, that's what they'll do.

Rafa better hope Inter have a good game in the CL this week.
