I'm not sure what the ref did wrong. The players were pissing around so he did his job. The moral issues etc are not his problem.

Ref was right, but Alonso and Ramos should be done for bringing the game into disrepute, and Mourinho tortured and killed.

Or or they could all be banished to a team that's not doing so well with no CL football as punishment?

The ref didn't have much of a choice really, he did his job.

I vaguely recall a game in the Championship/Div one where it had to be abandonned because there were only 7 players left on one team after subs etc, anyone remember? they were losing at the time and the game had to be replayed.
Maybe the ref wouldnt send them off if that was the case, but they had the game won and were wasting time.

The rules are there to be applied by the ref, no point moaning about it afterwards or making individual cases.
Like Suarez in the WC, there were calls to ban him for loads of games after he stopped the ball going over the line with his hand. He was sent off and banned for the number of games, and the ref gave a penalty which Ghana missed and eventually lost not Suarez fault he was punished for what he did. (Obviously there should only be individual cases where rules are changed e.g for LFC when we won the Champions League to allow us back in the next season)

I saw the game last night, and yeah it was pretty obvious, the OTT reaction of the commentators was hilarious, no one minded much when Beckham done it for England. Alonso seemed to take it upon himself, where as the Ramos one was clear instruction from Mourinho. He had a word with Dudek, who ran around, had a word with Casillas, who then told Ramos to do it.

Well, they are still both *great* men as far as I'm concerned.

Yes they did. It caused uproar at the time if I remember correctly.

lol this is excellent. it makes football more interesting not bring it into disrepute. in any case time was a player on a suspension could make sure he didn't do anything stupid in the next game and avoid it the correct way.

unfortunately most refs now are so fucking useless you couldn't trust one of them not to book alonso for complaining about getting kicked in the heart again. so you can't blame mourinho or xabi for deciding to take it out of the refs hands.

In Beckham's case, I think the uproar was caused by Beckham boasting about it.

Didn't Beckham do something like this, then admitted after the game?

I'm sure Real won't be stupid enough to admit it.

Perhaps the refs should be instructed to hand out direct reds - those are two match bans right - if they reckon players are trying to exploit the rules?

That would probably mean that others in same positon as Real would think twice before starting dancing around the ball instead of kicking it.

Trouble with that is that it would ony stamp out the kind of rubbish Real did; because it was so blatant.

The far more serious instances like play-acting to get someone sent off or diving or cynical fouls would be ver difficult to catch since they're much harder to prove.

haha, excellent stuff. there's not a lot of point being 'cunning' when you're about as artless as Bernard Bresslaw, is there jose?

Who was mad at Ngog when he blatantly dived to get a penality against B'ham last season that got us a point? (Apart from DB)

Me. And others too, if I remember correctly.

I see nothing wrong with Jose's actions.

but it's clearly unsporting behaviour, isn't it? surely that's undeniable?

Isn't fouling a player unsporting behaviour?

They committed no fouls. Their actions were tactical and no opposition players were hurt.

Should UEFA rather rescind all yellow cards once the knockout rounds start?

that's a nice line in non sequiturs you've got there!

is what mourinho did unsporting or not? simple question.

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has been fined by Uefa and banned for two Champions League matches, the second of which is suspended for three years.

Along with Real players Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos, Mourinho was found guilty of improper conduct relating to the pair's recent dismissals against Ajax.

Alonso and Ramos were also fined by European football's governing body.

brilliant. no suspensions for the players. fines of £16k for players earning, what, 6 times that in a week.

so they get away with it. fucking piss-weak stuff, as expected, from UEFA.
