"He leads the populist Smer-SSD party and won the vote last October with pledges to halt military aid to Ukraine, but denied being pro-Russian.
Fico was forced to step down as prime minister following the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak in 2018.
"If Smer enters government, we will not send a single round of ammunition to Ukraine," Fico told supporters during his campaign."
So assumed elections were coming up.

Looks like the Russian banking system is on the verge of collapse. Major banks are preventing their customers from withdrawing money or even logging into their accounts, leading to panic and lines at the ATMs, the Moscow stock exchange abruptly stopped trading in Euros and USD and now the Central Bank is announcing permanently tying the Ruble to the Chinese Yuan in order to try to stabilize it. The strength of the Chinese support for Putin, which remains to be seen, will determine how long they can hold on before the final crash.
And how will the final crash look? I recon, as soon as the money dries up, their army led by not-so-loyal officers will turn around and start plundering their own country - imagine 1000 Prigozhin uprisings all at the same time.

This at a time when the G7 is - at last - going to take frozen Russian assets over to send more funding to Ukraine. Oops.
By what meaningful standard? No economy of any consequence would buy or trade in it other than in tiny amounts.

I think this is getting too much even for Putin. He must be thinking he’s in a Sacha Baron Cohen skit. Too bad, it was him and him alone who turned Russia towards this path.
