WWIII Return of the Ruskie

Looks like a B-movie from the 1990’s.

==========
UPDATE: They are getting better at this!

In recent weeks, Russia has been using a lot of Iranian-made "Shahed-136" kamikaze drones to terrorize civilians throughout Ukraine (Putin personally flew to Iran to procure them). Ukrainians call them "mopeds" because you can hear their characteristic buzz from miles away. Ukraine did not have a civilian air defence system until the war and are now urgently trying to create one from scratch – the majority of the "mopeds" are being shot down, but some do get through and lead to scenes such as this yesterday on the streets of Kyiv when the policemen desperately tried to shoot one down right before it landed on the street and exploded.

That's watching how armies will attack - just kamikaze drones.

Definitely this is the future of warfare – the swarms of guided or programmable drones that can be used against civilians and military targets alike. Let's hope Israel, Taiwan, Ukraine and other democracies under threat build enough of those as well as their anti-drone capabilities before the likes of China and Iran unleash the drone armies they are currently building. We're lucky that Russians seem behind the curve on this, thank God for corruption and laziness.

From what I'm reading, the Iranian stuff is pretty 'behind' too, it's just the Ukrainians are learning on the fly how to deal with it. What they're doing now will probably guide a lot of countries in how they defend against this.

It is pretty primitive, but still surprisingly effective. I read that Iran has far more advanced drones that they might possibly supply to Russia next. It would be nice if someone whacked one or two drone-assembly factories...

I find all this terrifying. The future is looking more and more bleak...

Well, if the military technology evolves to the point where instead of people shooting at people it’s drones shooting at other drones (and when one side’s drones are all shot down they have to capitulate because resistance is futile at that point) it might not be the worst thing, at least in theory…

Drone on drone combat I can get behind. It's the images of a drone chasing me around the streets that I find terrifying. Especially as I can't run for shit.

They're pulling their own professional troops and cronies out Kherson now, sending in the mobilized conscripts to take their place as sacrificial lambs, then when they're safely across the Dnipro, they'll retreat south, blow the dam, flood the Kherson plains (and civilians), take out the nuclear plant, and blame Ukraine

Oops.

I've heard a similar soundtrack before. There's a recording out there on the Net of a transmission from Syria by a bunch of Wagner Group people embedded with a Syrian government unit which made the mistake of firing on a US army group and got blasted to Kingdom come.

I still find it mad that these days you can flick through footage of war inbetween videos of cats and food porn or whatever.

Imagine WWII Twitter. Arguing with actual Nazis online about whether worldwide Jewish cabal is behind everything… Swatting aside clueless Stalin fans in the West. Not too different from nowadays I guess.
