With lots going on about Torres and how he's invaluable etc, what price would you put on his head?

Not money though, players. What players would you want in to cushion the immediate blow of losing our most natural goalscorer since Robbie?

I think if we got Villa(Who's now 29 i think, and getting on), Higuain(Who could play on the wings if necessary) and a left back like Vargas or someone(To be fair i've seen very few LBs this season, so my judgement is rather impaired) and used the rest of the budget to carry on with this youth player impetus thing i'd be happy. Scrap that, i'd be pretty delighted. I'd rather have two players slightly below Torres' level than one who can only play half a season.

Thoughts?

I was gonna ask a different question, but here's good enough... if he were to leave this summer (which I doubt) where would he rank amongst our strikers?

Rush
Hunt/Fowler
Torres?

Or am I being harsh on Owen due to recent events?

I'm not counting Kenny or Kevin by the way.

Owen was a different type of striker to me.

He often played that lone man under Ged, and most of his goals were scrappy poaches or headers. Don't get me wrong, you have to be good enough and aware enough to be in the right place at the right time, but other than that i'm not sure. Like you suggest, i think my view may well be tainted.

I've never seen Hunt play, and Rush was well past his peak when i saw him play, so i'm going for Fowler.

If Torres goes this summer he will always be below those players in status, Owen included. If Torres goes this summer to another English club, well, that doesn't bear thinking about.

I love torres and dont want us to sell him, but if we did sell him for $70mil and bring in Higuain, Vargas and Turan .. then i cant say i would be too devastated

The thing is, we always make all these assumptions about what we could do with the money, but this time things are different.

If you were a player like Villa or Higuain, would you want to come to a club in disarray that's just sold it's best player and failed to make the CL?

There is no reason for them to choose us over our rivals right now, so yeah we might get 70M for Torres or whatever (although I don't think we would unless we sold him to City), but let's be real - we're not going to be buying in superstars with the cash.

Thank you.

We know some wouldn't come, so why complain?should we remain grounded and not aspire?

Fine.

Under the realism laws I'd have bent, turan and vargas.

I wouldn't be in favour of buying "superstars" to replace Torres anyway, even if they would come to us.

As for what he's worth, I'd say between £60-70M in the current market. It should be higher, but his constant injuries reduce his overall value.

If we sold Torres.. surely we'd be looking at people like Bent & Carlton Cole as a replacements. Depressing.

How about taking Stephen Ireland plus cash off Man City for Gerrard.

Any takers...

Depends what the cash was. for £25M plus Ireland, i'd consider.

For Torres?

Blimey.

I'd need Tevez to be included in that deal just to make me even contemplate it.
