Worth a punt?

I like him and at that prize we won't get a better English-born player. There's a risk mind he'd become only decent-like, as we've seen many before him in that bracket.

Perhaps we should find the £10M more and buy a player who performs regularly at a top Continental team instead.

My confidence in English signings has taken a massive knock. I'd rather we take a punt on an unknown foreigner. 😳

Be honest... are you Adam Johnson?

Hah, I can't understand the criticism here, wherever he's played he's scored and created goals, he's cheap and proven and he's young and clearly got potential. If he played in a foreign league and was Spanish or Colombaguayian every would be all over him.

No one is denying that he's talented. But he's not proven and you're very causually brushing aside his flaws.

I'd probably take a punt on him (even though I dislike him) on a cut price deal but once you're in the 12M+ bracket you'll probably find there are better alternatives.

You'll be hard pressed to get a better alternative for under 15million I'd say.
Hoilett. Now before you bring up goals/assists let me remind you that one has Dunn next to him and Yakubu infront of him, while the other has Silva and Aguero.

I'm a big fan of Hoilett, i'd be very happy if we signed him, currently though Johnson is better.

Great player, but injury prone.

Also, he's already rejected our approaches in the past - has strong loyalty to Fiorentina.

Did we really approach Fiorentina for him back then? According to Rafa, he wanted him, but was told there was no money for him and not that he turned us down.

Considering Fiorentina's state over the past couple of seasons, I see no reason why he wouldn't leave if the conditions/terms offered were right.

Now I'm gonna be massively disappointed if he doesnt join.

He would add a directness to our play as he does run at players. Is he right for us? It will depend on what the plan is with Maxi, Kuyt, Downing, Bellamy, Cole and possibly Sterling if he can make the step up. I'd favour a replace one or two with a single worldie strategy (not Johnson) than replace a few with hopeful punts like Johnson, Hoilett who may be more suited to clubs with lower aspirations.

I think he might leave Fiorentina, I just don't think it will be to England.

More likely to Spain, possibly Malaga.

He's had alot of time of the sidelines due to injury, I think the Premier League would not be the best option.

I would have no issues with a Downing Johnson Wing attack attack attack

I bet he is popular though, will have to pay £20 million again

Even if we buy him and a top striker to replace the diggler that will do me for next season as a minimum

Isn't Bellamy a bit of a smug cunt but I would always have him in my team. His attitude towards the club, game and his ability not to mention what he brings to the team far outweigh the negative connotations and public perceptions.

My take is simple, sign players for their ability and what they can bring to the team. Sign winners. I don't want a team of nice guys, they come last. So on that note, 20M for both Adam and Adebayor and I'm chuffed.

I wouldn't spend 40m on Johnson and Adebayor, that's ridiculous, unless you mean 20 for both, which will never happen.

20M for both Adam and Adebayor (at 10M each) plus Hoilett on a free would be a great start to the summer.

Johnson is one of those players whose reputation far outweighs what he's achieved in his career thus far. Hes almost Bridge-like.

Yeah I agree with bits of that, and it's down to the whole 'britishyness' shit Ken was alluding to. He's got a bit of the Stephen Ireland's about him in that cos he's played for a big club he thinks he's a big club player.

That said, he's a really good footballer. I'd question his attitude and how hard he's willing to work, but he can clearly play and if you're questioning his value at the purported 7M odd against what we'd paid for a lesser player in Downing, then he's worth it in my book.
