It's wronger than sleeping with your sister. Or it is close anyway. I was trying to get behind England but it is so fucking tough. I made peace with the fact today that I just can't support England. And Southgate must have fucked a goat whilst sacrificing a nun to Lucifer before this tournament to get this draw.
It's a funny one. I don't think I have ever, or not for a long time, cheered against England though I had no love for them either when the were filled with hateful cunts like Rooney Terry and all. I found myself willing them on against Sweden and I would be happy to see them go all the way.
I would always be happy for most of the English lads on here when they have had success in the past but this seems a bit different. Maybe its because the players mostly seem a decent bunch, or because there hasn't been the usual hype in the media behind them, though that could be because I am watching the World Cup on Irish TV. I don't really know.

Like you I always support the English cricket team, bar when they play Ireland and have done since the famous Botham Ashes match in !981. I don't do the sterotypical English hating at all and frankly I think that in reality it is considerably less than some seem to think, in Ireland at least.
If nothing else I guess if England do win the Word Cup this year, it might stop the media constantly going on about 1966.
Every cloud etc.😉

I've got Croatia in the work sweep

As if I needed more reason

Aren't you from Dublin Paul?
You watch and support the English Cricket team?

Madness

Oh, by the way @doctor_mac
Ireland are supposed to be playing a test match against England at Lord's next summer.
Even though he doesn't know it yet, @Barba Roja is getting us tickets.
Doubt you will be cheering for England that day.

That sounds brilliant- cheers @Barba Roja 😉 The thing is, I'll not be upset in the likely event of England winning. I'll enjoy the cricket either way, and I'll be able to enjoy, lets say, Bairstow smashing a 100. Could I ever enjoy an English try against Ireland or a goal against Norn Iron? No, no I could not.

@Oncy 's post at:-

..sums up the feeling most of us have based on our memories of Italia 90. I remember after the Cameroon game - it was evening game and a hectic one described by Lineker as the hardest game for England in that tournament as we kept getting ahead and they would make a comeback - the players were shattered after the game. But outside on the streets after game the cars were beeping like shit everyone was celebrating England reaching the semi-final. It was a wonderful night and I was also 15/16 back then. It was a tournament where we were so close to making it to a final against an Argentina team running on the reputation and antics of Maradona, and Germany did not have a single diving Neymar type..not they had a good team but all of then to a man had Neymer diving abilities. Anyway - I'm telling you all - it will one massive party if England win and if you want a Monday off that your boss will forgive you for then it will be the day after England win a world cup.

I was at the parade in London when the England Rugby Union team won the world cup of their tournament - it was a very good atmosphere and all, but it ain't football. We have a great chance in this tournament to win this - it is an England that is different to any other since 1970 I expect and the reasons are mainly:-

1) They actually have a manger that is not fazed by the media - he really is deciding who should play.
2) The team itself seems to be settled - no sulking superstars or big character reputation ballshit
3) Players are being played in their best positions - there is no confusion issues like should Gerard play with Lampard and vice versa.
4) None of that defensive wary shit - we pass the ball like all those other super cunt teams now.
5) Probably the biggest reason - the team is mainly made up of players who play for the best coaches in world club football at this moment in time.

Croatia - interesting opposition for us personally but we have the players to deal with that entire team, and by all accounts Lovren is due a brain fart moment - probably be against Sterling - I guarantee that.

Now as for Modrich, and his Barca Mate - I believe they don't like to be pressed given what Spurs (Alli - do your stuff again) did to Madrid, and Roma did to Barca - I think the game is definitely winnable and am hoping it ends in regular time, score maybe a 2-1 or a 4-2 to England. We shall see.

Cool - I best put the feelers out. That sound ace. Upper Compton Stand here we come. 🙂

By the way why have England worn red so often?

Once I understand but it's what now 3/4 times
Because we are the away team.. Obvs.

I much prefer us in Red. I hope we continue in red. Croatia cant play in white and red so it should lean to both of us in our away kits.

I was listening to the prattling presenters on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning (It's a festival of religious shit on Sunday mornings on BBC Radio 4).

These journos of both sexes have very irritating, grating voices.

A young chap said: "England have set up a meeting with Croatia in Moscow on Wednesday."

"A meeting?" I thought. (I was still bleary-eyed as I had just got up.) "What are they going to have a meeting about? Perhaps they anticipate crowd trouble."

So Oncy, with your England loved in.. if Liverpool where guaranteed the Premiership Title at the Expense of England being knocked out at the SeMi Finals of the World Cup

Would you take it...?

What a game and what a run. Yeah, you can argue we've had the rub of the green with the draw, but we've done well.

Fair play to Southgate for keeping a balanced and consistent first XI, regardless of the form of some players, it's paid off in the long run because we look organised and fairly difficult to break down, everyone knows their jobs and you can see the cohesion and confidence. We've also shown we're no pushovers too and we've played teams at their own game when it comes to playing dirty and playacting when needed.

Pickford has had a brilliant World Cup, he must be on cloud nine. How refreshing to see a no-nonsense goalie who does the basics and stays fully alert for the 90 minutes, in games where he's rarely tested. And Henderson was immense again yesterday too. Kane is just World Class and he's getting better and better with his game intelligence. As for Sterling, his composure is still completely lacking infront of goal, but his movement and pressing was second to none.

Kane, Maguire, Henderson, Trippier and Pickford have all been BRILLIANT this tournament.
I think Sterling, Alli and Lingard could have provided more to be honest and Walker has looked a serious weak link at the back but as a team collective when half your team is playing to their best ability you have a great chance.

Defo agree about wearing red. We've always done better in red shirts, especially in 1966.

It doesn't really. Fundamentally that's just a way of underlining the "Liverpool first" point, or at least it is for me.

Should be white shorts, though. They don't look right all in red. Oh yes, and in what weird cultural bubble does a bloke wearing a cheap-looking, wrongly-buttoned, waistcoat that looks like a relic from Mr Byrite circa 1979 get hailed as a sartorial trendsetter? Madness!
