World Cup Day 5.

One of the reasons I want England out asap is because of the media. In the 82nd minute of Germany Mexico the commentary team were chatting about England’s chances instead of the actual game in front of us. There was a great game going on and they were chatting about a match that kicks off a day later.
That pisses me off too. It's utterly fucking ridiculous.

Don't be influenced by the media one way or another. Make up your own mind. Who gives a fuck what the media think.

Media all over the world is the same, anyways.

he didn't say he was influenced by them, just that it's annoying as fuck having to hear it all the time

If you gave Harry Kane the choice between winning the World Cup or winning the Golden Boot, I'm not sure which he would choose

Yeah, but is this the bit were everyone starts spouting shite about England fans over-hyping their team, being the reason why everyone who isn't English wants them out?

I don't overhype them, I don't think they are much cop, but they seem less hyped up this time because they have less in the way of superstars. That might actually do us good and we do seem a bit more of a settled side.

I've not really witnessed much media "hype". Pundits are talking about it on English TV because it's our nation, isn't that the same in every other country? It's not exclusive to England, most pundit opinions I've heard/read is that we will do well to get out the group and then anything's possible in knock outs. Most seem resigned to the fact that we're not very good, we're inexperienced and we have a manager who's a bit of an unknown quantity (and who is largely known for bottling it on the highest stage).

Everytime there is a major tournament, we have to put up with nonsense about us English thinking we're amazing. Or worse still, that we're all somehow responsible when a group of West Ham inbreds decide to get pissed and kick off.

I haven't done any research, but there deffo seems to be a bit more positivity in the media this year, which I think is about Southgate vs Woy and us having a younger squad who are all bezzy mates, and obviously The Lion Mong Harry Kane as Captain, and all that fucking bollocks.

Southgate's PR team have been magnificent

Its his FOOTBALL team that will fall flat

Well, they can't do any worse than the last two cluster-fuck tournaments, so there's that.

Given my interest is at an all-time low and I don't care how England do, this will undoubtedly mean that England will have their best tournament since the last one we did OK in.

That's exactly what it is.

Expectations are lowered so much & the team is so much younger/inexperienced than in the past that everyone seems to just want them to play well.

Perversely that seems to now mean that expectations are gradually growing again as the swell of people all thinking "we may be pretty good this time" all seem to reflect on each other & increase whilst doing so.

South Korea are probably my favourite world cup minnow.
They were so much fun to watch in 2002 which although seems like yesterday is sixteen fucking years ago.

Anyway. Im not over enamoured about underdogs as you all know, but I have a soft spot for Korea and I hate Sweden who have always been the Pulis of international teams.

So IM WITH THE DOG EATERS

ITV opening credits are way better than the Beeb this year.
So disappointed no Fauré, no Ode to Joy, no Nessun dorma.

The squad doesn't have any of the uber 'get picked for their reputation' cunts like Hart, Rooney, Wilshire etc. I'm actually excited. I also think the likes of Sterling, Lingard & Alli, although young are very adept at performing when it matters in big games.

Still don't see why Walker is in a back 3. But hey ho - just a shining light of how shite Jones & Smalling are to be behind him in the CM pecking order.

Sweden had a decent team in the 90's if I remember, I think they played sexy football in one tournament and got semis. I mean, they got to the semis.

I could be horribly wrong, of course. I usually am when it comes to the footy.

Yeah 1994 they did. Brolin, Larsson etc

The South Korean manager is a racist though.

In training his players had to wear four numbers on their kit to confuse Swedish spies who couldn't tell the players apart by face alone.

The weekday games all start at 1pm, 4pm & 7pm.

That's boss cos there's a an hour break between the first & second game to pick up the kids from school so no viewing missed for me.

It's a bit awkward cooking tea during the second half of the 4pm game, but that's what the tablet in the kitchen is for!

We switched them around because we didn't want to show our opponents everything and try to confuse them," Shin Tae-yong told a press conference in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

"They might know a few of our players but it is very difficult for Westerners to distinguish between Asians and that's why we did that.
