Good little betting advantage that.

They lock the odds when the incident happens. Then open it & relock it once it gets referred. So if you think it'll get referred you have a couple of seconds to get the bet in.

Just managed to get a bet on Sweden 1-0 after that foul & before it went to the VAR. 4/1.
Overall, I think I like VAR.

Only real mistake that's been able to live on, was Switzerland's goal yesterday. That's massive improvements compared to normal procedure.

And even then, I don't think that was a clear foul. It was weak by Miranda. We'd crucify lovren for less

A glitch in the matrix. Respect
Yeah. Hit the 1-0 button which got it into the betslip but it then immediately locked & wouldn't let me place.

Then play went on & it unlocked so could confirm.

Then it locked again a split second later.

Means you have to have the app or site open & ready whilst you watch.

Although I suspect if it keeps happening they'll keep the odds locked for a bit longer to negate it.

Yeah it wasn't the most blatant of penalties I agree, I still think most refs would've called it as he so clearly had two hands on his back. It kinda also adds some excitement that some refs seems less inclined to second guess their own decision.

VAR is definitely working much better in the WC than the version in the cup games they've done here that's for sure.

Ki is a good player, always liked him. Not good enough for us obviously, but he has been decent in the Premier League.

There was a stone wall penalty for Argentina against Iceland, about 10 mins from the end. The ref obviously didn't see it properly as he didn't give it - but surely that is where the VAR ref should intervene and pull it back.

What are the rules of when VAR gets involved - is it only at the invitation of the ref?

Its like when the Monday night football game is Stoke vs Palace

Youll watch it like but fuck me you question them picking it.

VAR is constantly monitored.

If the team monitoring think the refs decision was possibly wrong they invite to review it.

If they think it's definitely wrong they tell him he has to review it.

If Russia are playing none of that matters, obv.

I didn't catch that game, so wasn't aware.

Someone explained yesterday that the ref will get words of info in his ear from the VAR refs when there's a controversial decision to be made, and he then have to decide whether this new info moves him away from his initial decision.

I believe in the Brazil game the ref saw the incident and in combination with the VAR refs comments like "there was little contact" he decided to stick with his first hunch.

That is not a bad system actually but it can of course be flawed as well. But at least it still makes space for and honours the refs personal assessment of the situation, if he's feeling certain.

I enjoyed France v Australia
Not brilliant but decent.
I thought Spain v Portugal was slightly entertaining too.. actually let me rephrase that, if that game didn't entertain you it's probably the wrong sport you are watching.. 🙂

PS The Peru v Denmark game was utterly nerve-wrecking too, and though the best team on the night didn't win, it was a boss game!! Also quite enjoyed Germany v MExico to be honest. And Iceland v Argentina sounded exciting at least.

Promising start, without being amazing-like.

Why is Mark Clattenburg sat in a suit in a truck. And why has he aged 30 years since last season?
