According to The Times, Capello's gonna pick Ledley King in his WC Squad.
Given that he struggles to play one game per week, and the other centre-back options are also ageing and injury prone - Is this really a wise idea?
[/quote]Ive heard that. It just makes no sense.
We've gone from having a million top class centre backs to next to nothing
terry is playing like a cunt, rio is perma injured, king is a crock, lescott playing like wanker, upson playing like a wanker........
Dawson is about the most consistent we have at present.

Well, Dawson's not going to this or any World Cup, so let's knock that one on the head quickstyle.
I can *some* merit in picking King because he's an outstanding centre-back (Didn't Henry say he was the best centre-back he played against in the Premier League?), but anyone who can only play one game per week is certainly going to struggle.
What happens if/when they get to the knockout rounds? do you select him for the 2nd round game, rest him for the QF, then bring him back for the Semi-Final? fuck that.
Or is he just back-up for Rio and EBJT? Hardly solid back-up is he? I'd be stunned if Rio makes it through the tournament unscathed, so you're going to have to rely on back-up sometime - in this case, a hardly-reliable King. Or Upson. Can't see too many of the World's best strikers fearing Matthew Upson when it comes to the latter stages of the tournament, can you?
England have history in this area of selecting players under an injury cloud. Given that the rest of their back-four won't be fucking solid options either; Cole (out for 4 months), Warnock?, and no decent back-up to the defensively weak Glenjo... Hmmm. I'd be concerned if I was an England fan.
I've said it before, but I'd take Phil Neville. Can play anywhere, good defensively, and excellent cover. Not a fashionable pick, but a sound one.
