South American team to win it.

If Argentina had a decent coach they'd be a good shout, but Maradonna's a gash coach.

Spain will be dark horses, but they'll fluff it. Beaten in the QF's... like France.

No-one will rate Italy or Germany's chances, but they'll probably end up in the semi's.

England expects... but England's dreaming....

The thing that we're all hoping for over here is England to win their group & Australian to finish 2nd in theirs... and they meet in the 2nd round. That'll be fun.

Don't see an African team winning it... but one will make the semi's.

Brazil will probably win it though... by default almost.

I think this one will most resemble the '94 World Cup in terms of on field action.

I'd really like to see an African team to win it for once. Apart from Ghana and Ivory Coast of course. So Nigeria or Cameroon would be nice.
So do you or do you not want an African nation to win the World Cup ?
Yes. As I said, Nigeria or Cameroon.

Why would anyone want an African nation to win it?
Maybe because they're African ?

Why not?

Can't begin to comprehend how anyone has selected South Africa to come out of their group. I know New Zealand are officially the worst team in the tournament but it must have been a bloody tight decision. South Africa are poor and there only because they have to be. I'll be surprised if they win a game and not in the least surprised if they don't get a point.

I hope England perform to the level that their talent allows if only to irritate the hell out of the Irish. For the record, Ryan, England are in Group C; they've got the talent to beat anyone if they play the right game but I doubt they can do it in successive games.

Spain look very impressive and, unless injuries start up towards the end of the season, look a strong chance.

Italy will bore the hell out of most opposition teams but I think they will stumble if they come up against anyone with genuine match winners.

Brazil are always a big chance, Argentina will not live up to expectations, Ghana will be fit, strong, powerful and fast but I suspect they won't have the finishing prowess to take advantage.

Portugal may have the best player in the world, according to the current rankings out today, but I'll be surprised if they make it to the quarters.

France I don't believe have a chance and will be pleased to get out of their group, Uruguay will be stronger than most people expect and the Dutch will look great but, I suspect, fall just short again.

Spain to win it injuries permitting; Brazil or possibly even England could be the finalists.

Having seen the performances in the African Nations I don't think it's gonna happen this time.

England's group games will be shit, Oncy. They always are. I am excited about the World Cup though - certainly beats thinking about Liverpool at the moment.

Pfffft !

I just can't get that excited about watching an England team with utter cunts like Derek Beckham, "Lamps", "JT", Plug, Shrek, Barry, Cashley et al in it.

I hate them too much.
What more than lucunt, insucunt, pellebastard, kunt, rierslo, midfield morientes, flossy etc?

I sense much hate in you

Yeah, this England team is especially difficult to rally behind. It's not even that they play for rival clubs - that's always something you've had to put aside. But most of them, at some stage or another, have done something especially cunt-worthy, and that coupled with their serial levels of under-performance in recent years makes it especially difficult to care.

I do think they have a good chance, though, because they've got a brilliant manager and an in-form Wayne Rooney.

The lack of decent keeper could cost them, however (please can the suggestions of Almunia please stop!), and with that in mind, hopefully David James can find some decent form at Stoke.

Balls, I thought a move might help him out.

Was it Bergovic? He's meant to be pretty decent.

Well the big favourites and rightly so have to be Spain and Brazil and the way the draw is, if they win their groups they could meet in the final. Spain could have a 2nd round tie against Portugal though which would be interesting.
Some of the groups are ridiculously hard to call for the time being, namely in my opinion A, B and F.

So Beckham can get in the England squad, but Ronaldinho can't get in the Brazilian one.

What's that about?

It's like Dunga made up his mind a while back that Ronaldinho isn't in his plans. It is harsh. If he is playing well then he should be in contention for the world cup.

On a side note, does Maradona pick Higuain these days?

In this particular case, Ronaldinho's absence from the team coincided with Brazil's best form and so Dunga's got a difficult decision to make as whether to introduce him back into the squad. This Brazil team is slightly strange, in that will contain plenty of players the English fans and media simply do not rate;

Julio Baptista, for example, may not be lighting up Italy but he's done a decent job of replacing Ronaldinho. Then there's Kleberson who, after a fine season in Brazil, has a serious chance of being a first choice CM. Denilson of Arsenal also fits this list, alongside some former Spurs fullback - I forget who - who got sent back to Brazil pretty quickly.

Adriano also has the fauth of Dunga - a manager who appears to be judging the quality of the Brazilian league as good enough.

Can't argue with his results so far, though.

I can't believe you forgot to mention Lucas. He is in the squad, isn't he?

Brazil looked very good tonight.
With Adriano, Pato, Ronaldinho, Fabiano, Hulk, Grafite, Nilmar, Robinho, Kaka they have PLENTY of options up front.
If they gel whos gonna stop that lot scoring?
