Well, in a way, I do know - as fans, we've ALWAYS wanted marquee signings, but we've rarely got them, partly because they don't want to come, partly because we can't afford them and partly because the more rational need is for good young players who'll become marquee players. So why there's such a desire to get a marquee player now is a bit of a puzzle. And aren't marquee players, so-called, really, really, big names? I haven't heard much about Willian. I'll be delighted if we get him because, from my crash course of Willian 101 during the past week, he sounds really exciting, but the fee being bandied about sounds more like a marquee price for a non-marquee player. All a bit odd. But I'm not against it!

I agree. Perhaps the club feels it needs some big signings to convince Suarez it means business. Or perhaps it's dancing to our captain's song:

You think every player wants to come here? We signed 4 players within a few weeks - and hopefully, two more in the next 3 weeks and it will be an excellent window. Arsenal released 17 players and have signed nobody despite boasting to their fans they were going to break the bank. We had signed 4 players we had targeted within weeks of the window opening I don't think we're remotely comparable with Arsenal in terms of having a transfer strategy.

It's not just us though mate, look at most of the major clubs, their seem to be a tendency this window that a lot of clubs are sitting on their hands awaiting deadline day.

Dortmund bought Henrikh but they were desperate having lost their best player to close opponents in Bayern. Apart from that deal, Monaco and PSG there have been almost awkwardly silent when it comes to the major signing and perhaps it's a tendency, that clubs are now trying to keep hold of their best players instead of constantly needing to rebuild.

One major sale from one of the top clubs could perhaps ignite a chain reaction, but we are by no means the only ones holding our horses at this stage.
