Will.I.An

I'm a bit bemused at where this need for a 'marquee player' has come from. Well, in a way, I do know - as fans, we've ALWAYS wanted marquee signings, but we've rarely got them, partly because they don't want to come, partly because we can't afford them and partly because the more rational need is for good young players who'll become marquee players. So why there's such a desire to get a marquee player now is a bit of a puzzle. And aren't marquee players, so-called, really, really, big names? I haven't heard much about Willian. I'll be delighted if we get him because, from my crash course of Willian 101 during the past week, he sounds really exciting, but the fee being bandied about sounds more like a marquee price for a non-marquee player. All a bit odd. But I'm not against it!

Agreed. When we focused away from signing marquee players we got some real value in Sturridge and Coutinho. I was hoping we would go along those lines.

Off to London, no doubt Willian.

Go to London! I guarantee you'll either be mugged or not appreciated.

Catch the train to London, stopping at Rejection, Disappointment, Backstabbing Central and Shattered Dreams Parkway.

Classic Partridge.

Apparently there hasn't been a bid, just Spurs are considering making one, that's what Sky Sports, Goal, and some other journalists are saying. Mood seems a lot more confident than early now.

So it would be him and Coutinho fighting it out for that slot? Could be replace Henderson to play alongside Gerrard and Lucas in CM, ultimately replacing Stevie?

Does Eriksen play a more central role, just behind the striker?

From the 3 league games this season

His best position in a midfield three:

................................Lucas...................................
............Gerrard......................Eriksen..................

He is not as big or strong as Stevie and never will be. The rest makes sense though. He is also good at running for ages and covering lots of ground so that should please the Henderson fans.

But we dont play that.
We play

-------------Lucas-------------Gerrard--------------
--------------------? ? ?-----------------------------

He looked quite desperate to score against Feyenoord in the weekend constantly making deep runs into the penalty area during the last 10-15 minutes, despite Ajax already winning.

Someone was looking for a farewell goal?

*I'll get my coat*

PS Cheers for the graphs Binny, could you by any means dig up Eriksen's goal/assist stats from his time in Ajax - in all tournaments?

So this?

So this?

Yeah that as well. Rodgers seems to rate the reversed formation too with only one holding CM, especially against teams sitting tight.

Eriksen sounds like a Jordan Henderson who scores more and assists more in an inferior league.

And then burn them, or post them in the Christian Eriksen forum. Not here

So, yeh, back to Willian, AVB has just said they haven't bid for him, although I hardly expect him to come out and say otherwise.
