I'm not sure by any means, but i read yesterday that we'd spent £84mil since Rafa's been here (obviously taking into account players sales as well)

Rebel stated that City had spunked around £170mil on 14+ players (i think its more than £170mil) in 12 months, have they sold many players for much?

If you do include player sales then its possible, though I still doubt the figures.

However I don't include player sales in a comparison like this (the money was spent regardless of where it came from) and as such I think that they are still just behind Benitez. Still a remarkable amount to spend in only a fifth of the time though

The figures might be slightly off, but certainly not by much. Regardless of this though, like you say it is a stunning amount of cash to spend in such a short period of time.

Come on Richey you've got to take into account the player sales when looking at these figures. We wouldn't have been able to be half as active in the transfer market, unless we'd sold players 1st.

A 20 million player is a 20 million player. Whether we sold someone to get the money or the money was just given to us it doesn't really change that.

Hmmm then in that case you must consider the net cost not just the purchase price of any player. The player may be worth X because that's what we paid for him but if we unloaded someone to buy him then in effect he only cost Y. The bank manager agrees with this BTW.

if there's no net spend year after year (which is what we're going to be subect to under the yanks), the squad tends to go backwards pretty quickly or Benitez has to make a decision to sell Torres to afford a left winger, then you have attrition i.e players running down contracts or players who are sold for a loss, gradually the team and squad gets worse with no net investment unless the stars or players are sold for inflated fee's every year...

so yes, it's very important.

it's difficult to compete for a championship when being outspent by Chelsea, Spurs, Villa, City, Man Utd, etc every year
