Was there a Harley in the other room?I've mentioned this on here before but in that 2013/14 season when we were up against Citeh / Chelsea he came into our pub while Chelsea were playing and then went into the other room where there is no TV. How could you be CEO of Liverpool and not even be arsed about the footy?
Solanke to Palace is off.
Does that mean he's not going, or is Yoda saying he is? 😉
Eh ? One's a 20 yr winger with great potential and one's a mid-20s CF on his way out it seems.Morata 2
Teams always need strengthennig. The teams that go backwards are the ones that don't. We need another LB, probably another CB, most certainly another winger and a CF and likely a #10, as I can see Solanke, Studge, Origi and Lallana all leaving next Summer. If Clyne goes another RB too. 5 or 6 players, I think that's about as far from 'we're good' as you can get with this team 😉If we're buying in January it would be because of unforseen injury problems.
Otherwise we're buying for next season. I can see us pulling a Chelsea with Timo Werner or another young player.
So basically we would be buying for the up coming season.
With Matip, Gomez coming back at the end of this month and Oxlade fit in April maybe, do we actually need strengthening?
I think we're good.
That's because we wouldn't let him in the front door !It all depends on the environment you get to work in. Pogba looked rubbish and couldn't get minutes at Anfield a few weeks back, Shaquiri looked like a quarter pounder playing for Stoke and Karius looked dodgy playing for Liverpool. 2 out of 3 improved almost over night by only changing their environment… I don't know the story With Pulisic, but I assume Chelsea can make a player out of him as the talent seem to be there. No guarantees though.
Paul Joyce basically said that Klopp wasn't willing to pay that much for Pulisic especially since he wouldn't be starting.

We've lost any one of those before and still done more than OK. And we now have Shaq. so we're pretty well covered. Each has their strengths; Salah is of course irreplacable at what he does, and both he and Mane have awesome pace that terrifies defenders but Firmino is the most difficult to replace outright and would require a formation change which losing Salah or Mane wouldn't.Lose Firmino, Mane or Salah and we are goosed.

Check our record with any of those players missing. It's pretty damn good. And Shaq. isn't a huge drop off IMO.We’re a long way off from well covered.
The drop off in quality between the first choice attackers and second string is huge and needs to be addressed asap. Ditto with the LB situation.
I agree with most of that, but do we need them now?Teams always need strengthennig. The teams that go backwards are the ones that don't. Of course I agree we need better cover as I have already said, in another thread perhaps (CF, Winger, #10, LB, CB and RB if Clyne leaves).
Better cover may not like sitting on the bench and or playing cameo roles in games especially those with international places at stake with aaall that popularity and sponsorship money at stake.Check our record with any of those players missing. Whilst I don't feel we can trust Studge, Origi or Solanke to come in for any amount of time there is no doubt that with Shaqiri our front line has seen a major strengthening - we had no one previously capable at that level. Not for any decent length of time. Our title charge fell apart two years ago with injuries in Jan.
Last year our league form plummeted with our CL run.
We have fuck all cover up top of the caliber of our front 3.
When they pick themselves then you know you need reinforcements.
Spurs havnt signed anyone in 18 months. They seem to be doing ok.Teams always need strengthennig. The teams that go backwards are the ones that don't. Hardly a template. Far more examples of team strengthening improving the team in the long term ... Ferguson's United as an example of longevity.Spurs havnt signed anyone in 18 months. They seem to be doing ok.
My point is there isnt a template.Hardly a template. Far more examples of team strengthening improving the team in the long term ... Ferguson's United as an example of longevity.
Sorry no I wasn't specifically referring to the January window. Rather our position with the squad as it stands. Cross threaded perhaps as I think this discussion is going on in another too.My point is there isnt a template.
Maybe im missunderstanding yours.
A cursory glance at Fergusons United shows that between 2003 and his retirement in 2013 the only players signed in January you could class as first teamers are Vidic and Evra, both in 2004/05 then not a single ‘strengthening’ signing between 2005 and 2013.
So if that is *your* template, and justification for spending in January im struggling to get it.
Aah right makes more sense.Sorry no I wasn't specifically referring to the January window. Rather our position with the squad as it stands. Cross threaded perhaps as I think this discussion is going on in another too.
Hmmmm. Lucas Moura...last JanSpurs havnt signed anyone in 18 months. They seem to be doing ok.
