we cannot bid again until 2030, fuck it lets not bother - it's getting like the Eurovision song contest

Hahahah.

What a fucking stupid decision.

Come on FA, a quick response is needed. Fire Capello and hire Hodgson immediately.

Qatar and Russia

first and foremost i like countries to get it who really apreciate the honour, so european, south american and asian nations have first dibs there.

is football really a big enough deal for the people of autralia and USA that they should deprive devoted english or spanish fans from having it?

doubtful imo. mind you, i suppose wtf does that matter to FIFA when there are lucrative new markets to open up to the joys of the beautiful game?
Do you really think SA didn't 'appreciate the honour'?

We appreciated it so much we let FIFA fuck us in the ass repeatedly.

calm down you silly tart. i didn't include africa because there's only one country in the entire continent even remtoley, remotely capable of hosting a world cup, and i don't see why that should allow SA to get it every few tournaments.

by my reckoning africa should have it again in about 2074.

Meh, for me Russia was the obvious choice for 2018, and I had it narrowed down to Qatar and Australia for 2022. I thought Australia, but Qatars bid did look impressive. Would have been nice to have it in England, but Russia makes more sense seen as they've never had a tournament and the game seems to be getting back to what it used to be at the minute.

Blatter is a corrupt twat.
Yep, both decisions have corruption written all over them.

I can just about understand the Russian one but Qatar is beyond belief - particularly considering the exceptionally negative report they got following inspections.

Heh, ok, point taken. I didn't really think that one through in context.

England won't qualify in 2018. You'll be having a similar summer to us Irish lads

Yeah, I thought the Eastern Europe v Western Europe hosting history they pointed out was relevant selling point in some sense too.

David Beckham confirms England was out of bidding to host the 2018 World Cup in the first round

The convulsions around FIFA will not cease after clarification of how voting in the 2018 bidding process was carried through here in Zurich today. England went out in the first round despite having the best bid and Russia won an absolute majority in the second round over HollandBelgium and Spain - despite Spain's political strength within FIFA through federation president Angel Villar.

Eastern Europe are already hosting a major championship in two years time and the 2014 Winter Olympics are to be held in Russia.

In reference to WC hosting history, that is 🙂

is football really a big enough deal for the people of autralia and USA
Honestly World Cup Mania hits the US pretty hard nowadays. Football is the number one youth sport in this country so the vast majority grow up with some connection to the game. And although most people do not follow a league consistently the coverage of the EPL, La Liga and Serie A has increased greatly in recent years and that is for a reason, its getting ratings. That combined with the number of immigrants (especially the large Mexican population), there is clearly a large enough following to support the event. In addition, the World Cup transcends the sport and appeals to most people, not just diehard footy fans. Plus the infrastructure in this country can't be overlooked. There are new MLS stadiums popping all over the place. I went to the Red Bulls Arena for a preseason meeting between Man City and Sporting Lisbon, not only was the ground stunning the Portuguese influence was deafening. I also think the world should get too see the new Dallas Cowboys stadium as it is truly immaculate. I look forward to the next time it is held here even if I am not living here at the time.

Sepp is 74 and realistically this was his final host-bidding event. Guess what, we have the unprecedented double bid for both the 2018 & 2022 World Cups! And no big surprise the winning nations were the ones most suspected of financial inducements - FIFA make a mockery of football.

Qatar? Really?

Trying to come up with good reasons to have it there. Accessible? Weather? Infrastructure? Fanbase?
New part of the world? Beaches? Money? Money? Money?

I think Russia could be a good place to have the World Cup, although I'd have preferred England or Spain/Portugal. As for Quatar, though, what a fucking joke. 40C-plus temperatures and no drinking in public. Sounds like loads of fun...

The stadium designs seemed the only thing that looked attractive.

Bid representatives have said alcohol will be allowed in designated areas throughout the tournament.

Although the tournament is played during the two hottest months of the year, bid organisers said the heat would not be an issue thanks to climate-controlled, zero-carbon-emitting stadiums.

The country has harnessed solar-powered technology to cool stadiums to about 27 Celsius.

The stadiums would also be partly dismantled after the finals, with the extra seating shipped to developing nations who could reconstruct them as smaller stadiums for their own use, a plus for developing football globally, bid organisers said.

Qatar will be the smallest host nation to stage the finals since Uruguay hosted the first World Cup in 1930. Ten out of its 12 stadiums are located within a 25 to 30 kms radius.

Qatar will supposedly have 12 air-conditioned stadiums that will be relocated to other countries after the WC. Fans expected to be able to attend 2 matches per day due to the very short distances between the stadium locations.

I hope the British media go to town on rooting out all those corrupt buggers in FIFA. Love to see scandal after scandal hit FIFA and Blatter hard as our press / media tear them to shreds.

Money Money Money
Always Sunny
In A Rich Man's World

Well, not in Rssia. As N (French midfield general) and H (Kaka's grandfather) found out to their cost.

Two tournaments obviously catering to the fans - Russia, fast becoming one of the worlds most expensive countries - especially Moscow where, normally hotels rooms are around £200 a night...and Qatar - where you're simply not allowed to have fun. Yay !

Otherwise, really not arsed. Other than the time difference that is

Shocking 1st round votings. England 2. Qatar whopping 11.

2018 FIFA World Cup

2022 FIFA World Cup
