I'm kinda hoping Blatter stays on so we get some independent mini euro cup next summer.

It's mad that Europe, basically the centre of world football and were the majority of the sports wealth and talent exists, has little to no say in it's future due to back-handers to smaller countries that barely even play football. Such a flawed system.

They were testing the electronic voting system before Blatters deluded speech.
5% didnt even know that Germany won the WC last summer.....

I've said for a while I'm surprised Murdoch hasn't considered organising a Kerry Packer-style breakaway tournament. It wouldn't be that great as a one-off event but the very fact it existed would crush FIFA as it's currently composed and make broadcasters as powerful internationally as they are domestically.

Ha the mighty Solomon Islands have the same vote and influence as Germany, Nigel Farage must be spitting feathers

Italians are claiming both them and Spain were screwed in the 2002 world cup.

Anyone who watched the games where they were eliminated knew something was very very odd in those game ... The calls that were missed were just too blatant. I wonder how much Sepp pocketed the puta.

Think it was Spain who scored a goal but then it was disallowed because the ball was deemed to have gone out of play in the build up.

I remember watching both game and laughing out loud at some of the decisions. Italy definitely had goals ruled our as well.

Did you see the clip of Blatter dealing with a heckler today? 'Security, please!!!' You'd need a better comeback than that if you were playing at the Liverpool Empire.

Maybe it was security that was heckling him?

So Warner had a himself in, gets arrested and put in custody. Then claims he's "exhausted" and is taken to hospital. He's discharged shortly afterwards to go and party and give a rabble rousing speech along the lines of "why are they picking on me?"

Actually why am I surprised at any of this!

Has he accused everyone of racism yet?

@eaamalyon: Not seen much about it today, but Italian media dragging their 2002 elimination from the World Cup into this FIFA crisis. Warner chose refs.

Yep. Italy had two goals disallowed. One for offside that was about 4 yards on. South Korea got away with some ridiculous fouls if I remember correctly too.

And on the Guardian live update:

“I don’t understand,” emails J.R. in Illinois. “Why doesn’t the person with the simple majority just win if neither guy gets 139 votes? Why vote again? There’s only two of them. It’s not like other candidates will have been eliminated and therefore change the tally for the second vote.”

Because Fifa.
