When you translate "Subotic" to English, do you get "Caulker"?

If we sign one of these class of players, they'll have to understand when they come in that when the defenders become fit again, they wont be getting a game. So I'm not sure how many are going to be up for that, considering they're not going to get a payrise or anything by doing it.

Oh aye, I'm a sure a top class defender would be shitting his pants at the prospect of starting ahead of the world beating defenders we have...

Let's face it, there's no concrete chance of getting players that will massively improve us in January window for a number of reasons.

Thing is thanks to injury we need to bolster the current squad. If we can do that using loans it's about the best option we have.

I didn't even know you could go on loan to two different clubs in one season.
The rule is that you can only make appearances for 2 different clubs. Since Caulker has been on loan since July 2015 and has only played competitively for Southampton, he's eligible to play for another team.

Subotic and Matip arent avaliable in January. Caulker eh? Hmm, not sure about that one.
The only thing they have in common is height and being dominant in the air.

He'd be better than Jose fucking Enrique there anyway. Given Skrtel's injury seems pretty bad and Sakho gets injured on a semi-regular basis, he'd get games. Haven't seen him play in ages though, but on a loan there's not a huge amount of risk.

When we do bring in a top centre back, you'd have to think that Klopp is doing it with the longterm goal of replacing one of the existing ones, none of whom are infallible. I wouldn't lose any sleep if Sakho or Lovren go.

Caulker looked the business a couple of years back, but it smacks of desperation and just plugging a hole. That's if it's even true. According to idiots in the press, Pato was a done deal yesterday morning, until Klopp pissed on their chips.

This is a similar move to when Rafa brought in the Greek guy some years ago. Caulker would not have been on anyone's wish-list, but then neither would Jose Enrique at CB!

Given our somewhat limited alternatives, I view this as a rather low-risk gap-fill, and certainly an upgrade on the likes of Sebastian Coates (who cost a not-so small fortune)

Ah, ta, I didn't know that.

Yeah, pretty much. I don't want to try to convince myself that a player like Caulker is the answer, we've been there, done that, but when it's relatively low cost and there's not really an alternative, then it's at least an experienced option. Similar I guess to when Jones came in when we had no keeper available.

EDIT: I didn't realise he was only 24, it seems like years since he scored against Sweden.

It's strange the way his career has gone backwards. He was given alot of accolades earlier in his career after big performances in the league and Europe, Gallas said after he played in Spurs' win at Old Trafford a few years back that he could go on to be the best defender in the country.

A dodgy attitude, I think, has had a lot to do with it. He sounds a bit of a dick.

We've been interested in Caulker before, Rodgers wanted him when he was at Spurs.

With our injuries the way they are now, there's not much wrong with plugging a hole until the summer. He doesn't work out? Back off to QPR with him. He's somehow miraculously a revelation? Buy him on the cheap.

I'm not gonna get too worked up about the quality (or lack of) of any loaned players brought in this January.

If your car breaks down & you're forced to hire one, provided it gets you from a to b it's pretty much done it's job, regardless of how shit it looks & small the engine is.

We're effectively without a working defence of any sort currently, so average premiership defenders on short term loans has to be an improvement on that.

He's quite tall and beefy, so at least we'll be slightly less easy to bully. When he was at Swansea he looked pretty good on the ball, too. I must confess I've hardly seen him for ages now so I'm not too sure what to expect, but I agree a loan deal is sensible in the circumstances. We needed more CBs, simple as that.

Always interesting how Sakho is lauded on Twitter but generally loathed on here. I think he might be the new Lucas in terms of splitting opinion.

Why has he not been getting a game for Southampton? There's definitely a decent player in there. He's quick and good in the air (and a real threat from set-pieces– I remember him getting a few important goals for Cardiff). Happily take him.

He's been done two or three times for staggering around drunk in the streets and getting into arguments outside night clubs. His fitness has been a problem. Maybe he's ready to get himself back into shape and change his attitude. It's happened before.

Well, the chance to play for Liverpool might be just the carrot he needs.

He played for Southampton when we thrashed them in the league cup and had a poor game. As a cheap stop gap option he's ok but i would be surprised if he's here past the loan term.
