Wheat for Hype?

A few things:

- He's only good at centre-back. Scrap any ideas you may have about right-back/versatility/etc etc - he's a centre back and that's it.
- With that in mind, is he really worth it given that we have 3 better centre-backs at the club than him, and he'd cost the guts of 10M?

In short, no.

In a little bit more than short, he'd be a nice to have but not a necessity. Certainly not when that sort of cash could be spent on other more pressing areas.

Surely the 10 million stated in the article is way over the top. True we have Carra, Agger & Skrtel in the central defence, Wheater might be a good back up option. I am thinking whether Agger can go to the Right since he likes to bomb up the field too.

On the other side of it too mate, why would Wheater himself want to come to us?

He's turning himself into a regular in the England squads, so how would coming to us knowing that he's going to be 4th choice centre back help his cause?

It wouldn't.

With Arbeloa uncertain, Agger at the right, Wheater, Carra & Skrtel can 'rotate' amongst them for the two Centre Back positions. I don't see Carra playing all the games next season. Right Left backs can be between Insua/Aurelio/Dossena.

Wheater is still young and has lots more to learn. He might be tempted to play for a top team and a chance to play in the CL?

Woah woah woah.

Y1, you know you're like a bro to me and all but what the blazes are you talking about?

Agger at the right?

Insua, Aurelio and Dossena at the right?

You ok mate?

Ooops, sorry typo and I meant left for the trio. I have edited it.

Agger could be tried on the right (just a thought) as Arbeloa is sometimes gash. Carra is now too slow on the right. Skrtel has failed on the right.

Blob on.

So rather than sign a RB, we buy an average CB and play Agger at RB?
Nope, we have 3 good CB. Have we ever tried him of the right? Carra does not have the legs for it anymore. Skrtel failed.

Wheater is to be a back up for Skrtel & Carra.

Agger is left footed though Y1.
Is he? hmmmm.... back to the drawing board.

Yes Agger recently said that he could fill-in at LB if needed (he came across like he fancied himself as a LB).

RB is definitely on the agenda, but LW comes first.

I think some of the youngsters will get their chance; 3 first-team CB's fighting for 2 positions is already quite decent.

LW first, RB second, (or 3rd depending on whether a striker is brought in as an alternate for Torres).

Fucking hell Y1. You have not thought about this at all, have you?
Nah, it was a slow boring morning here in the far east that did my head in thinking that Wheather could be another jigsaw piece for the fine tuning Rafa wanted.

According to RAWK we have inquired and they have stated its a £9 million asking price. Anyone whod play £9 million for Wheater would have to be a blurt.

The guy doesn't want to leave his home town club anyway.  Even if he were good enough, £9 mill's a lot to pay for a player who doesn't really want to be here.

A 10mill CB this summer? No thanks, we've got more pressing issues.
The general consensus is right on this thread, we don't need a centre back at that price.

I would suggest we do need to look at bringing in a young/cheap option though, Agger's injury record is not that great and Carra is getting on. If we get stuck with just two of those for the best part of the season I'd be more than worried.

are you meaning agger on the left/right side of three centre backs?

That could work with a player like glen johnson on the right, maybe aurelio on the left
