What are rambutans like ?
Hard hairy skin with white sweet flesh. Different taste from mangosteen though. DOn't you have tinned ones there? My family used to by tinned ones in Chinatown when I lived in the US 10 years ago and it doesnt taste really different. They taste a bit raw if you first try the real fresh ones.

WOW, still not died yet this thread?
Yup, I was surprised as well. I think some credit's due to Y1 for promoting our 'awful' dishes here. 😉

btw krissr, I don't think you'll have any problems with rambutans. Most foreign tourists here love it.

Darn, I suddenly remembered how bloody tiring it was making those for celebrations. You had to actually stir a whole pot of that sticky substance!

Do you eat the inside or the whole thing ?

Just the inside mate.

The skin is far to hairy for anyone to bare. Especially since people eat it like nuts here.

Do you eat some of the weird things that Y1 and avvy eat Reuque ?
Not really. I'm a Malay and my dishes are mostly chicken or meat along with rice, Ong and Y1 are chinese and ahve a wider range of delicacy.

That said, we Malays have wide variety of rice to choose from. There's the Nasi Minyak, Kerabu (Blue rice), Beriyani, Fried rice, Nasi Lemak, Tomato Rice, Chicken Rice and lots more.

Not all are traditional malay dishes however, like beriyani and chicken rice, but as it is rice, we have it as our main dish.

the smell is just as strong but taste is like erm, dunno how to describe
Have you tried all of these Reuque ?

Yes I have krissr, except the darab or whatever the thing that is.

See, Y1 actually lives in across the peninsular, which ahs a larger portion of forest and nature, so he kinda has more choices of wild fruits there.

Avvy, Ong and I are in the peninsular.

Being raised in the States for 9 years, I do have a liking for English food, alas the Malay mentality has got me and I could not bare a day without rice now. The longest I lasted without rice was 3 days, I had full meals, yet I found myself still craving for food. 😛

Of course!

My mum knows hoe to make em and boy were they lovely. Have'nt had one for ages though. I eat most things English/Western.

Well, the things most of you eat that is.
