West Ham Game

This COULD work:

......................................REINA...........................................

MAGIC..................CARRA..........GREEK..................AURELIO

........................RAUL......................CHRISTIAN...................

MAXI.............................PACHECO...............................COLE

.................................TORRES.............................................

We'd probably be able to string more passes together at least than in any of the Wigan and Stoke games.

I'd definitely include the Greek somehow as we need a threat on setpieces.

Poulsen was as poor as I've ever seen him once again for Denmark last night - but only in the first 20 minutes or so - and then he suddenly looked more like the player I remembered him to be. A few well hit long passes, many quick one-two's and even made a few good interceptions as well.

Shelvey should be very close to a start here as well after his inspiring 45 against Blackpool midweek, but I'd probably be tempted to start with a bit more routine in central and then give the very promising Pacheco a go in his preferred position in behind the striker. He was very good for the Reserves yesterday too and alongside Maxi and Cole we should be cabaple of playing West Ham of the park.

I've got a strange optimistic feeling about this game.

Like you sense it is the last one in charge for Roy??

Didn't you have a strange optimistic feeling about the Stoke game as well though?

As I recall it, not one bit. Actually I was quite sure we wouldn't win.

I'm always hopeful of course but I've got a completely different optimistic feel about this one.

EDIT: A quote of mine from the start of the Stoke game thread:

Looks like a scrappy 1-nil at best and I'd be happy to take that at this stage.

I wasn't worried about stoke, stupidly.

And I can't see anything other than a win vs West Ham, although without Gerrard, they do have a superior midfield.

Damn, I've jinxed us haven't I?

Considering it's a double post by you and KHL I'd say we're pretty fucked, yeah.

This is, on paper, probably our easiest league game of the season. Yes, even easier than Blackpool at home! Anything but a win would be disastrous, even without Gerrard.

Given our potential injury issues & the fact we're playing west ham, there's a very good case for unleashing a few of the youngsters in attacking positions as long as we have key defenders in place.

I'm thinking of Pacheco & shelvey & even amoo.

Roy, being roy, will pack the defense & midfield & try to ensure we grind out at least a draw.

Poulsen will play, and I wouldn't be suprised to see spearing alongside him. Same back 4 as last week, n'gog on his own upfront with meriles, maxi & jova supplying the creativity.

4.30am kick off here. Working till 2am and back in again for midday on sunday.

To watch or not to watch, that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer roy or to take up arms against a sea of woe & hit the sack (in protest)

Yep. Our home record against West Ham is fantastic.

Torres, Kuyt, Skrtel and Johnson are all ok. Cole needs another week
[/quote]

My pick:

..........................................Reina.............................................
Johnson................Carra...............Greek........................Aurelio
.........................Poulsen...................Raul.................................
Kuyt...................................Pacheco..................................Maxi
....................................Torres..................................................

Bench: Keeper, Skrtel, Konc, Kelly, Shelvey, Amoo, NGog

Reina

Kelly Skrtel Carra Konchesky

Johnson Meireles Poulsen Maxi

Kuyt Torres

I'd much rather play Shelvey instead of Poulsen, but that won't happen with Roy in charge.
