God knows Roy was an unmitigated disaster for us. Not just the results, but more importantly his demeanour. He didn't seem to get that expectations were high, and that we also expected him to defend his club and players from the likes of Fergie. He just didn't fit. We knew it, and by the end, he knew it too.

I really hope he doesn't get a hostile reception though. He was shit, but he didn't want to be shit. His methods didn't translate, and he brought with him a small club mentality, but I don't think that's reason to give him stick.

At least he has retained his typically positive outlook:
"There is no reason to give me a good reception because they didn't like me when I was there. I can't see they are going to like me now."

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson is not expecting a warm welcome when he returns to Anfield on Sunday.
Hodgson makes his first return to Anfield this weekend since being sacked by the Reds last year following an ill-fated spell on Merseyside.
The experienced manager was dismissed in January 2011 after just eight months in charge before returning to management with the Baggies only 37 days later.
Not liked

faithful during his time at the club and he admits to not being liked by the Reds fans while he was in charge.

When asked if he will receive a good reception, Hodgson said: "I don't know. I wouldn't have thought so.
"There is no reason to give me a good reception because they didn't like me when I was there. I can't see they are going to like me now.
"There aren't that many people I worked with that are still there and people like Damien Comolli (director of football) have moved on. But it will be nice to see one or two players I worked with."

Roy Hodgson on his return to LiverpoolQuotes of the week
Hodgson believes Liverpool will be in buoyant mood and with the pressure eased on them after reaching the FA Cup final.
"I'm sure they will be in a buoyant mood," added Hodgson. "Their home form has not been that good so I think they will be concentrating on getting the three points and as close to fourth spot as they can.
"I don't see their FA Cup success having any bearing other than it will make them more confident and maybe take a bit of pressure off them in terms of the game.
"Had they lost the semi-final, then all the attention would have been on their home record, which hasn't been great this season."
No let up

Albion made sure of a third successive season in the top flight via last week's win over QPR but Hodgson is adamant his players will not ease up during the final three weeks of the campaign.
"There are four matches left where I hope we give good performances that bring us more points," continued Hodgson.
"I can assure everyone interested in the club, particularly our fans, there is no letting up from us.
"We will train in the same way, will prepare for the games in the same way, as if we needed to win every one.
"You want to finish as high as possible. You have a basic goal to stay in the league and a second goal to get as many points as you can and finish as high as possible.
"There is no doubt we will be trying to do that but it is nice to approach it without that horrible feeling if you don't win or get a point, you are sinking further into the mire.
"I've been in that situation with Fulham

and West Brom

last year and it is a much nicer feeling to go into the games knowing if you lose, it doesn't mean you are relegated."

He fails to realise we're likely to be much more fond of him knowing he isn't our manager.

He's a former LFC manager and SHOULD get a respectful reception......unfortunately I don't think he will.

since kenny stepped down
souness - fa cup
roy - league cup
gh - league cup X2, fa cup, uefa cup
rafa - CL 🙂 fa cup
roy - fuck all
kenny (2nd term) - league cup

he was a fucking useless old cunt and he shouldn't be boo or applauded as this implies we give a shit about him, he should just be ignored and forgotten about like G&H

Behave.

Lets have a bit of class and treat the man with some respect. He meant well regardless of how it all ended.

Also, what trophy could he have won before Jan neil?

As unlikely as it was, he might have got us to an fa cup final

I wouldn't be too happy with a negative reception, as others have said he did what he thought was best. Unfortunately that wasn't good enough.

Ignoring him wouldn't be the worst thing, but I like the face rub idea.

IF the lazy fucker had come 12 months earlier and got us into the Champions league, the World Club championship?

I wouldn't totally agree with this. Just because you were a manager or player for the club doesn't mean you should get respect. But bad receptions should be reserved for the likes of Diouf, in my opinion.

I think a huge part of the negative vibe towards Roy was not just due to the fact that he was shit, a big part of it was that he was never one of us.

If there was a fight between our club and Ferguson or the club and London media, all of our other managers would have defended us at any cost, not Roy.

The comments he made about the fans being supporters and the comments about the fans protests against G&H show how little respect he had for the supporters, so apathy is the best he should expect in my opinion.

I hated him because he was shit and what's more I thought it was obvious he was going to be shit seeing as he had done fuck all in over 30 years of management.

I'm not suggesting he should be greeted back with waves of euphoria, I just don't think he should be subjected to jeers of derision.

Roy always seemed to care more about his own reputation rather than the fate of our club when he was manager.
He is trying to rewrite history by claiming that he was thrown out of a job because he was unpopular with ungrateful fans rather than the fact that he was doing a shit job in a position that he was totally unsuited for and incapable of succeeding in.
Ignore the fucker as anything else will just further reinforce his mistaken recollection of his time as our manager.
