We're signing Van Dijk yet again

Footballers want to win honours and play for the best and most successful coaches in the world.

Klopp great that he is won't be able to compete with City if they come calling

The problem with City is that if it don't work out for a player then it could mean the end of them at the top flight. Also I suspect (as in most other professions) - if a prospective employee likes the idea of working for a certain person (i.e. Klopp) than someone else (i.e. Pep) then that is reason enough that they may select a clup with potential than one that is almost guaranteed to have a strong squad etc with a strong title winning chance.

I went back and read the thread from when we were chasing him. Lots of hilarious comments the authors of which will remain unnamed. The type of comment made is best illustrated by Mark1975's sensible post:

Mark is one of the best posters on this site, I’m not surprised. He’s not a happy clapper or a negative fucker. Right in the middle, as we all should be. Calls a spade a spade. If I’m still allowed to say that.

Racist

He’s way better than anything we have at the moment. It’s a very good signing, but yeh, the fee is a little silly.

The Firm with an exclusive on the van Dijk transfer. If it comes from their Amsterdam office its great info I'm guessing. Global news oulet. This transfer is on now. Get the camp set up! @doctor_mac

The Firm

@TheFirmBL

We can exclusively reveal that Liverpool football club are in advanced talks with Southampton over the aqusistion of Virgil Van Dijk & hope a deal can be struck by the 10th of January 2018 #LFC [@TheFirmBL]

The Firm

Manchester City also approached Southampton over Van Dijk, however, the player once again reiterated his desire to join Klopp's Liverpool #LFC [@TheFirmBL]

Good centre backs are seriously hard to come by, and aren't cheap.

Look at our rivals efforts from the last 12-24 months;
Lindelof - shite
Stones - can he actually defend?
Mangala - guff
Otamendi - meh
Mustafi - pish
Keane - hasn't put two good games togethor in his life.
Lovren - etc

The majority of those cost 30-40M(ish).

Spurs are the only side in the top 10 with a decent centre back pairing.

I know our centre backs are no good, so why not try this lad? Do you think we can't afford it or something? We're fucking loaded.

If he improves us by 5+ points a year, then he's worth it.

You basically copied and reworked my post didn't you - admit it !

Indeed. City have spent 120 mill £ in the last 3 years on Stones, Mangala and Otamendi without improving much.

You could have recycled your post from when we signed Lovren:

Terrific defender.

What age is he, 25? Really good centre-backs go until they're 33/34 these days, so if we've got an 8 year leader in the middle of our defence for 20M odd then it's a superb bit of business.

I know we all want shexy stepover signings, but good centre-backs win you league titles. The heart of our defence was what stopped us from winning the league last year, and improving that area was our biggest need this summer.

Love this guy's ability at the back. Not crash fucking hot on how we decided to leave Southampton, but couldn't be happier with the thought of this guy leading us for years to come.

He'll be captain after Gerrard's done.

Let's just spend big money on van dijk and koulibaly. Would be worth it. Ditch Lovren and matip for those 2 and done.

Its like we have our own resident old woman commenting from the kitchen window.

"I remember you said Billy Liddell wouldnt be all that in 1938, so I'll bring it up again now when you say Aubameyang will be good for us."

Needless to say you were 100% wrong too.

I didn't even need to look at the old thread to know that.

Strange city asking and getting told the player wants us. That kinda helps ease the pain of spending 70M

The guy has qualities we don't already have in defence that's why I'm ok with signing him.

He's massive, strong and good in the air. Also aside from that last injury he has barely missed any games in career which means he'll be there to build a defence around.

Until real madrid or barca come and then he bends over and we bend over shortly after.

The role as SCM's old woman really suits you. Keeping control of old threads, whoose wrong and who was right umpteen years ago.
I bet you write things down just to remember them for an argument later, fingers crossed you get to use them.

You should dig up a thread from 1998 when he thought Lorenzo Di Cunto would be the new Leo Benhakker.

I was about to like your post until you started doubting Lorenzo.... what the fuck are you on about??

You spend your life looking at old posts at Internet forums? Wow.... how encouraging/ depressing that life sounds like... you find any interesting stuff mate?

If you could be bothered, you can search for Ross’s multiple posts telling us with certainty that Messi was finished because he’d stopped taking steroids. That he was on the decline.
This was 4 or 5 years ago.

Well, he probably started taking steroids again... [emoji6][emoji23]
