We're signing Van Dijk yet again

There is no chance the club will leak anything about this transfer to the press, after the shenanigans of the summer window.

That's what I thought too. So the leak must be from the Southampton end.

Apropos of nothing, it was quite interesting to hear Pellegrino talk of a learning curve. Southampton would likely have been in a much better position financially and football-wise, had it not played to the gallery by refusing to sell. Now, it's in a desperate situation on the field and any club it approaches after selling van Dijk will know it's loaded and extract the maximum.

99% this. The only thing I would take partial issue with is that I don't think they were just playing to the gallery when they kyboshed the deal. The player himself initially spoiled their hoped-for bidding war by coming out and saying he wanted LFC and only LFC, at which point they hoped that by naffing us off they'd get the Chavs and City interested again. It then became clear that that wasn't going to happen, not at that stage anyway, but by then they'd painted themselves into a corner and so had to create the whole hypocritical lie about us having behaved uniquely badly to begin with, in order to try and "justify" what they'd done since.

How can City even finance this. Didnt they spend £200m last summer, how can they spend another £60m+ in Jan and still be with the FFP rules?

Let's not kid ourselves, it's not like Van Dijk is a fan. Man C are offering a league title, he'd be stupid not to take it.

I'm not against signing him but we shouldn't compete if it's 70 mill they want. I mean he's good, but not 'that' good.
No but we are THAT desperate and clubs know it. Regardless we will pay over the odds. It's what big clubs do. I don't have a problem paying over the odds for quality defenders and goalkeepers as we so shit there.

It's a tough one to take and it's not as if success is guaranteed after we buy him. I mean for the team. There's still other pieces we need. I'd go all out for Goretzka.
But even after that we need a DM, a new keeper and probably a better left back too.

I can't believe we're bitching about paying 70m for a top player in a position we need so badly.

Watch this place go nuts when we next draw 3-3 with Lovren and Klavan

You give that much of a shit about LFC that you want Coutinho to go to Barca so he can win trophies instead of helping us, and don’t even watch our games. Why would you give a shit about how much we pay for a top defender?

Because Coutinho has made it clear that his future is not in Liverpool.
I'm already looking at next season. Is Liverpool in a position to spend 70 mill on one player when we need at least 3 other positions filled?
Me not watching LFC is more of a priority thing. I'm where I don't clear my schedule anymore to watch LFC play.

Your favorite Coutinho will be worth 120m+, so by your logic 70m won’t be a problem at all if we went ahead and sold him in Jan like you advocate, considering we already had 60m+ lined up for VVD in the summer. Fuck knows what good selling him midsession would do.
As for priority, if Star Wars is a higher priority for you, good on you, but you rank very lowly as a LFC supporter.

Yeah I'd rather have dinner and watch a movie with friends than sit alone at home watching LFC.

Says who? I didn’t realise there was some sliding scale with little
Tick boxes along the way that earn us points to get higher up the “great fan” scale. None of us have the right to judge someone as being a good or poor LFC fan based on the little we know about them gathered from an Internet forum.

I've always wondered if FFP was ever Platini's way of clipping English clubs' wings and once the French clubs suddenly got sugar daddies, UEFA's appetite went as well.

May I suggest refraining from clearing your schedule to post on this forum about a football team that, by your own admission, you don't even watch.

Can we stop going down the road of attacking posters based on their place of work, what they shared about watching LFC, commitment towards LFC, other personal details, etc?

This attitude of "your opinions are worth less than mine because I am more of a fan" will only lead down to one path. We are all a community here and all of us are LFC fans with varying degree of commitment and posting styles. Let us embrace that.

While I wouldn't disagree with most of that (with one exception which I'll get to shortly), I don't think it's what Wilko's post was mainly about. Its main target was Modo's posting style and there I do disagree with your mostly worthy sentiments. Posting style is a legitimate subject for comment and objection, as you've just illustrated.
