I am no big fan of Sterling - but he is better in tight spaces than Rashford, so initially it is better to start with him - he drags defenders towards him when he has the ball - the truth is both Kane and him by their very presence can create spaces and get free kicks more than the other players. He had a few good moments in this game but was very tightly marked. I am more concerned by Alli - whatever his injury was/is - it is hampering his energy levels somewhat and it is clearly visible.
Is he? What does he do when he gets out of tight spaces? Pass the ball to an opponent or fall down, as far as I recall. He's stunk out this tournament and that's not down to his idiotic tatts or the Daily Mail or Russian racists or anything other than the fact he's been bloody awful.

Clearly the coach sees something in him that we don't that makes him a better choice than Rashford who cannot get a regular start in the United Team, where as Raheem can get a start in the City team managed by Pep and was a key contributor to the goals that won the league for them. Also for Rashford to be effective - he definitely needs space to run into and the games from now on against the likes of Sweden - space at the back will be very little on show.

I think of the teams that remain - and are in the QF - each team except Brazil have had one good game in this world cup that you could say makes them contenders. Brazil have been utter shit in every game - nearly at the same level you could say and most likely have one final game at the world cup on Friday. I really don't know what to think if they make it past Belgium.

@dantes - yes the indigenous Englishman does get a little drunk to celebrate and the chants of "Ingerland" do sound rather aggressive, but it's still the country I have been bought up in and recognize the good aspects of it. You sound just full of hate - and your reasoning regarding Kane being fouled is totally off. If England do not get to the final - by the end of the tournament I reckon Kane will be the most fouled player. Did you see what happened in the Tunisia game ? - every penalty has been deserved - in Tunisia he got wrestled like in WWF, against Panama two players tried to fuck him like two male pornstars doing a female, and against Colombia the guy was literally jumping onto his back. As LFC supporters we recognize Kane as being a good striker we all mock - but even the most insane person would recognize the way he is being constantly fouled. I don't see him reacting like Neymar. On your wish for Brazil to show how great they are - all I can say is that I only had a like for football once my father forced me to watch the 82 team as a 7 year old. I have watched out for them in each world cup to see their new stars but in the last 3 world cups - I can see a decline in both talent and to be honest Neymar is someone I cannot stand watching. I think he puts himself before his own team, and nation - it's all about him - so I really really hope Hazard and Co will fuck him and his team proper come Friday.
Rashford has been pretty open that he's carrying a knee problem he's having to manage, probably a big reason why Raheem and Lingard are consistently starting. I don't like either of them pace aside.

I hate fox but for England games i switch over. I just can't sit through watching/listening to another biased commentator on ITV/BBC creaming themselves over a very mediocre England performance.

I think for some people England fans at the world cup are synonymous with the worst elements of English football. Why the general public dislikes the team so much I dont know, maybe its a hangover from the golden era that was a total failure of overpaid egos who routinely got found out. Seems unfair to blame this team for the ones that went before it.
