We got the Welsh Xavi, and now you're gonna believe us.

First of all please excuse the dramatisation used in my title.

I've always been a firm backer of Allen and had a lot of confidence in his ability. He is really coming into his own in the last few weeks. I have no concerns over Allen at all. Rogers was always going to give Joe time to show us what he can do.

Anyone still on the fence with him or are we all happy campers placed in the 'Joe Allen Is Boss' camp? I can see him improving again and excited to watch him and Henderson coming into their own next season in our midfield.

He's got a brighter future than Lucas anyway.

I quite like him but I've never understood the Xavi comparison. He's Scott Parker-lite. And that's perfectly fine.

Allen uses his first touch to find space not to just control the ball. He uses either foot to manoeuvre his body onto his next phase of play. Very intelligent and knows how to play the game.

I sat with 12 reds at a table for the Chelsea match. The hour before we spoke about nothing but our players.

Everyone of them bar me said he was 'shite' to 'not that bad but need better'. I felt like a fucking Martian, I reckon he's boss.

Yep.

Henderson used to take a touch to control it, then another one to set it and go about his next phase of play. Allen does all that in one swift movement. Lovely player.

You can tell im a fan anyway.

but does he even get in our starting line up week in week out when everyone is fit ?

He's boss. Always liked him. Could add a few goals to his name though. Shame he didnt put that volley away against Chelsea. Would have been a legend already if that had gone in and saved the day.

Meh player certainly not worth the 15m we spunked on him, young enough to improve though so better than Lucas, maybe I'm still fucked off by the miss at Goodison that cost us the match

Like Henderson all he needs is to play regularly and like Henderson he'll continue to get better the more he believes he's an important cog in the machine. I think he's easily good enough to be a regular starter in a league winning team. He will not however be a regular goalscorer. Next season...............

.........................................New Goalie..........................................
New RB..............New CB................Skrtel...................New LB
..............................Henderson................Gerrard....................
...............................................Allen.......................................
...................Sterling......................Suarez.................Konoplyanka
.................................................Sturridge........................

Coutinho should also be a regular starter obviously and can interchange with any of the front 5. Also, we need competition for Sturridge.

I think we'll win the league next year if they let us play 12.

While they're all good individually, a midfield three of Gerrard, Henderson and Allen doesn't have enough goal threat. I hope Henderson can step on, but if he doesn't, we could definitely do with an improvement on one of them.

Does he also put one foot in front of the other to walk?

Heh. Very good.

I think he's a decent player and you can tell that the technique is there but I'm going to need to see more than I'm seeing currently to join any kind of fan club.

It was similar for me with Henderson during his first 18 months or so. I always thought he looked talented but no point banging on about him being great until he actually is.

If the idea is to continue to play the inverted triangle, and have the two advanced midfielders as energetic 'pressers' with good all-around ability, then in Henderson and Allen, we have two players who we can count on for the next 5 years easily. They're not perfect or brilliant, but they both have a lot going for them, and will only improve. We'll of course need to buy at least one more in that position; but I think the more important question in midfield will be what to do with the holding position long-term.

How long can Gerrard play there? Will he be as effective at it in slower-paced European games? And when do we need to think about buying his successor there? And more importantly, do we want that successor to be a Makelele/Hamann type DM or the Alonso kind of playmaker Gerrard is trying to be?

He's incredibly frustrating to watch in and around the box, he goes in to this mad panic, despite being surrounded by cool cats. It annoys me just seeing him pick the ball up in and around their penalty area

I like this work rate and ball retention but his lack of killer instinct baffles me when we've also got hendo or lucas with him.

A more competent allen/lucas has to be on the shopping list?

Also, the pressing and work rate is surely a product of Rodgers system rather than his attribute. Does he even suit Rodgers football? There's no more death by football, instead it's you score 2 and we will score 4.

He's a good player I just don't think he's what we need

It's crazy to think he's just turned 24, he's great and will get better, next season will be a big one for him I feel.

SImple - Suarez should not leave, but if he does, you charge 80m and with that get isco for 25 (attacking mid slot) and benzema for 30m (attacking mid) and with the rest you buy Pogba.

Nothing special. If someone offered 10m + I would bite their hands off. Not athletic and mobile enough to be a midfielder all rounder and not skilful enough to be a midfield playmaker. Limoboesque midfielder.

He needs to get more slide tackles into his game, and 40 yard screamers. Throw in a couple of failed nutmeg attempts, and then everyone will see his quality.

One of the few things we've always agreed on.

Allen is a superb player and is finally starting to show it consistently. Was our best player vs Chelsea for me.

He has really been impressive, I think he was always good but in tight spaces he was excellent.
