Rooney is an unbelievably good player.

If I had to pick between Torres and Rooney at the moment, I'm afraid I would have to pick the dirty balding granny shagger.

Great footballing brain, excellent work rate, doesn't whine.
You've probably not watched him for long then ... He's also prone to whining at refs.

rooney improved finishing solves a big problem for england. now he can play as the lone striker with gerrard as the second striker. gerrard and lampard no longer have to play together in the middle of the park and heskey can finally be kicked into touch.

As I correctly stated at the beginning of the year, he's a front runner for Player of the Season.

*yawns*....predictably right as per usual

The only reason for that is because Shrek is probably broken less often; Torres is still better,IMO.

you could argue rooney does more for the team when not on the ball and also 'can do job' in a wide position.

Yup.

He's also a better 'footballer'. I love Torres, he's one of the best strikers in the world, but Rooney is something else entirely.

Rooney is getting better and better.

But he needs to perform in the biggest games to be right up there with Messi and Ronaldo who are still ahead of him.

Torres is a more explosive and can do more on his own but comparing them is stupid they are different players.
I was hoping he'd never take his 'level' from magnificent player to 'one of the best strikers in the world'. This year, unfortunately for us, he's developed into a player capable of finishing most chances and his goal record is fantastic. Pity ... As I said, I hope Barca/Real find a way of getting him to Spain.
Pffft, you used to argue he wasn't all that.

Thats true, in the 4 games hes played against the other big 4 this season Drogba ahs 6 goals, thats a monster of a forward. Rooney has 2 in those fixtures,1 was a penalty. Still he is definately having the season of his life

Afraid it is clutching at straws... our only hope is that he gets injured.

Yup, I used to say he wasn't a great striker because he struggled to even hit 20 goals a season. That never took away from the fact I thought he was a great player. But I judge strikers on goals. But hey, carry on.

He's never really been an out and out striker, and 20 is a big ask for anyone, let alone a deep lying forward. He's had to take on more of the goal responsibility in the absence of Ronaldo, and he's developed alot over the last couple of years in terms of being a more rounded forward who can also take up good positions at the end of a move.

Saying 'I judge strikers on goals' is a bit one dimensional and taking no consideration at all for his position and style of play, which will always be as more of a King Kenny than a Rush.

That said, as you said, he is a great player though, I've just never considered him an out and out striker, ideally your top 'forward' gets in the region of 15 a season, anything beyond that is a great return.

I always felt that this might happen tho; that Shrek would impose his dominance with Gayface's departure.

Cunts.

He never was an out and out striker which is why I never rated him as a great one, but was still sadly aware of his ability as a player.

A striker's main job is to score goals. If he's playing the Bergkamp/Kenny position, it will be different (ie how I value him). But I seem to remember all people said Rooney was a great striker which I didn't agree because I hadn't seen enough of him as a goalscorer ... Now that he's unfortunately proven it, he's .... Ahhh fuck it, I don't want to compliment the Manc bastard anymore.

That was actually the question last season; plenty were saying that Rooney wasn't good enough to step up if Ronaldo left. If anything it's shown what a player he is - he clearly played a lesser role for the good of the team last season since all the focus was on Ronaldo.

I still don't think he's a better striker than Torres but I do think he's a better player. He could easily fill Gerrards position or Fernando's position and you'd lose very little.

Gerrard and Rooney *should* be an amazing combination for England.

23 goals, first week of February.

Ive always rated Rooney, he was always going to be world class, that was obvious from that first goal he scored against Arsenal.

His big problem in previous seasons is that he hasn’t been the main man. Ronaldo was there, and Rooney was getting pushed out to play left wing, Right wing, everywhere except his best position really.

He’s got that position now, and he’s pretty much taking the piss out of all the people who ever doubted him.

I find it hard to hate him, as I think he is Englands main hope in this summers world cup.

Ps Ryan, Are you bored? Its a bit pervy to be following LTW around like that mate...

Peter,

I bet you never watched that video I put on your facebook page, did you ?

Did You ?!?

No I did not.

And my girlfriend wants to know who the fuck you are and why did you put it there!

Also, I wasn't talking about the fat chick dancing.
I was referring to the Eddie Murphy vid.

But I give up with you.

Hate talking manure on these forums but my god they have one hell of a player...he's grown alot since his Everton days..his finishing has improved and Ronaldo's absence has allowed him to steal the spotlight.
What's this doing on a Liverpool fan site? He's a fat twat Manc/Bluenose. There's nothing more to say
And to think so many people on here thought he wasn’t going to be world class. I remember having this argument with plenty about 12-18 months ago.

Oh dear.

What a player.
He's consistently failed on the international stage and went 3 whole years recently without a goal for England. Let's wait until he's banging them in against top countries in the World Cup for once rather than against the likes of Portsmouth and Bolton before we hand out the "world-class" stuff. So far his career suggests he's a flat-track bully and he usually goes missing against top opposition. His poor performances against top clubs/countries far outnumber his good performances. Someone described him as "more workhorse than wizard" and that sums him up nicely for me

I've questioned his finishing before. There was a time where 'doing a Rooney' meant getting yourself into a one on one with the keeper and chipping it lightly into his chest.

But he's always been a huge, huge talent, no doubt, and is capable of hurting teams from anywhere on the pitch. Ronaldo leaving United will prove to be hugely beneficial to England at the World Cup.
