Was it a mistake letting Guthrie go?

I'm asking, haven't seen much of him but I hear he's doing quite well at Newcastle.
Is Spearing better?

Seeing as he has played 1 game this year Im not to sure.....

Really?

Should have looked it up. But he was a starter last season wasn't he?

Anyway, is he just average or is he showing some potential?

To be fair, he's competing with Cabaye and Tiote for starting berth (and the former is unbeaten in 24++ games with club and country!).

Back to topic, Guthrie and Spearing arent similar in playing style are they?

I'd take Tiote in a heart beat from Newcastle, and we need a player like him. They can have Lucas in exchange.

here here. Except I wouldn't give them Lucas. I'd give them Spearing.

Ya but, if we play a midfield two of Lucas and Tiote, it will be worse than the Masher, Lucas pairing....do you really want to leave that up to chance?

Exactly who I was hoping our scout that watched Newcastle vs Wigan was looking at.

But I want a better squad we should have at least two good defensive midfielders.
What if Lucas get's injured?

Oh, shit just forget everything I said.

Tiote is excellent. Guthrie deffo isn't better than Spearing, who has played well every time he's had a chance in the 1st team.

Coady is far, far better. I'm surprised there's not more fuss made of him so far. He's going to be a very good player.

I used to believe that as well. He's got the heart but I don't think he's got the skill.
He'll be 19 in February, maybe I'm being harsh but I've watched him tons of times and I don't really see where he'll fit in. Maybe as a defensive midfielder or a central defender.

McEachran is the same age as Coady and twice the player. He already is a very good player.

But who knows, he might pull a "Kelly" and appear from nowhere.

My money's on Sterling, Robinson and Suso.

That irish lad isn't too bad either.

what do you think of him in terms of best position? he reminds me a bit of carra in that he's not outstanding technically or physically, but has rare leadership qualities. to make a facile deduction, could he be an excellent centre half rather than a midfielder?

He doesn't seem to be tall enough to be a centre back? From what i've seen from Coady, he has a good engine and a decent range of passing. Quite lightweight which is a concern though.

Wouldn't write him off or anything, he's highly regarded at the Club by all accounts. Maybe a loan spell awaits?

I'm not sure, Peter, but I like him more and more as a fairly attacking midfielder. He has a Gerrard-like technique for hitting shots from just outside the area, and he's getting better and better at bringing other players into key areas of the pitch. It's hard to know if he'll make it here, because we buy talent, but I feel really sure he'll prove himself at the top level.

To answer the first question, no. We got a decent fee for him - was it 2M? - and he wasn't good enough for us. Spearing is better in my opinion.

I like Coady also. I hope he can make the step up.

Guthrie won't get games for Newcastle as long as Cabaye is fit. Cabaye is an excellent player. It said he joined for an undisclosed fee. I wonder how much Lille got for him?

"Danny Guthrie is 10 times the player Lucas will ever be."

Remember that beauty? Absolute. Fucking Whopper.
