Ward Recalled..

But...but Klopp was happy with our two goalkeepers and trusted Achterberg!

Does this mean he's not right about everything?
Does it mean that everyone who said Bogdan was shit and a terrible signing and shouldn't have played against Exeter was right?

I'm beginning to come round to a post Herr Onceared made in another thread: We should do Liverpool's scouting and approve transfers.

Maybe it means that if Mignolet is always on the verge of missing out through injury, he needs another keeper.

I'm not surprised he hasn't recalled Vigeroux from Swindon, apparently he is not impressing and was booed by the Swindon fans at the weekend.

I'm gonna hide my next opinion here............Bogdan is a decent keeper. I mentioned when we signed him that IMO he's probably not good enough to be a regular in a team with a top 4 aspirations but then neither again is Ming. I also mentioned that he has "David James" types of games once or twice a season but that he is probably better than Ming because in the 95% of games that he doesn't fuck-up he dominates his box and organises his defenders (better than Ming).

Obviously he's had a couple of shockers and maybe he's one of those players who hasn't got the bottle to play for a big team BUT I promise you he's a decent keeper. I would sell Ming before I'd sell Bogdan!

He needs another keeper anyway, Mignolet isn't good enough.

But after this latest Bogdan disaster show, I'd be surprised if Ward wasn't immediately promoted to Number 2, and we never see Bogdan again.

We need to look at binning off the goalkeeping coach I reckon. Seems a bit coincidental that we've had some 'great' keepers but they turn to shit when they come in and work with him, and he's been here for all of them.

List the "great" goalkeepers we've brought to the club or were at the club since 2011 (when the goalkeeping coach was promoted to the first team) and whom he proceeded to wreck. I honestly have no idea how good or bad a job he's doing, but it's one thing to swim with the currents and repeat the claim that he's shit, but quite another to suggest a point to convince yourself that you're doing the right thing swimming the swim.

The list is very, very short. Pepe Reina. Honestly, did you watch Simon Mignolet at Sunderland? I never, so I've nothing to base a before / after comparison on. Brad Jones? Please. Doni? He's playing at... erm, where now?

Or maybe there's something else (in addition, or not), like... we're shit at evaluating and buying keepers - we've bought Dudek (one or two great seasons before turning shit) and Reina... in 16 years. Carson and Kirkland - the next gems right? They're playing for FC Wederfarkarwe now - that should suggest something. Achterberg wasn't around to wreck them back then too.

Yeah, I was going to post something similar, Reina has been the exception in the past 25 years, and even he wasn't unanimously admired. I don't think the coaching is the problem, or at least the only problem.

The only thing is that none of our keepers ever seem to improve. If anything they regress. The coaching has to do something with that.

I'm not going to pretend I've ever thought he was anything other than a so-so, self-deluded, arrogant little twat, but if he comes back and does well of course I'll be delighted. After Bogdan a piece of cheese would strike me as progress

No idea about the other parts (arrogance, delusional, etc.) but I agree on the so-so part. Never really impressed me when he was here. If I'm not wrong, I think we've both suggested that Fulton looks like he could be the better keeper of the two.

Maybe the half season at Aberdeen has improved him, hopefully. Just saw a clip of his action against Hearts (see below)... some familiar problems that Mignolet has as well - slow in taking his kick (i.e. he drags around too much and baits the opponent until he has to kick poorly under pressure), questionable decision on when to come out or not as well. Did make a couple of good clearances on free kicks though.

So he's got those 1-2 out the way early, and should be consistently immense from here on it. If that fails he can go back to being Seamus in WWF

Hmm, that video doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. His footballing skills look bad, he wipes one of their players outside the box and is lucky not to get sent off, and is nut-megged for one of their goals. A few arial flaps thrown in. Bogdanesque.

Exactly. Which is why the twitter / FB talk from SPL watchers about how he's a budding star made me go "WTF".

Some of the above is a bit previous IMHO. That's just one video, and some of the folks who have praised him on FB and elsewhere have seen a darn sight more of him in action than we have.

Didn't your Aberdeen supporting mate also say he had had a 'wobbly period' for Aberdeen?

Aberdeen were top of the league, and then went through 4 defeats in a row in October, so I'd guess the entire team went through wobbly period

This. Ward wasn't great at that time, but he had sod all in front of him. My pal (and his companions in the stands at Pittodrie) are very sorry he's gone.
