It does seem that the people who were most strident and abusive about Benitez, are now saying that Hodgson 'deserves time', because otherwise they'll seem a bit stupid.

But he's had 3 decades of management already. And he's mediocre. Always has been. Always will be.

Just because you wanted Benitez out doesn't mean you *have* to blindly support his really average successor.

Just go and look at his stats for Away games: it's a fucking *disgrace*

He should never, ever have been appointed as manager of LFC, and he's the worst, and least-qualified manager to ever get the job.
I hope you mean over his whole career and are now going to give us the stats ? No ?

a very tough opening 5 games, I certainly didn't expect us to sweep them all to one side, I did however expect us to give it more of a go in the games we lost. I'm not talking gung-ho all out attacking football I mean a genuine intent to win the game.

I'm letting off steam more than anything because it's a little early to be writing anyone off but I will say I really hope roy isn't going to go into every away game in the cautious manner that is becoming his trademark because we will end up drawing (or worse losing) far more than we win and without a 4th place finish the few remaining stars we have will leave.

I agree to a point, but the elephant in the room is Torres, (again) while Berbatov is scoring goals for fun, Fernando has looked completely out of sorts. I know why, and in the next couple of weeks he will start showing some form again.
When Torres is off form or out injured we are fucked, and it has been shown time and time again. We should have had another striker in a long time ago.
It's not Roy's fault, he has to play him, he needs to get his match fitness up, it wasn't Roys fault we couldn't bring one in in the summer either.
If Torres had started the season like he can do, we would not be having this discussion.

That's probably true actually.

Spider divvy. That useless fat waster Benitez has gone - and thank fuck ain't coming back. No point in taking out your pent up frustration on uncle Roy.

Give him till Xmas, after he's had a good run of games before putting the knife in.

I was the first to say Roy was a shite choice, but only a thick fucking cretin wouldn't give him a few games to adjust and set his plan into motion.

That's true to a point Vlad, but Torres hasn't had great help from his team-mates. He's basically been expected to run around like Paul Dickov chasing lost causes whilst we hope in vain that he can conjure up a piece of magic to win us the game.

All teams rely on their best players, but there needs to be a good supporting cast and so far this season, Torres hasn't had that. The team isn't as bad as is often made out, we have some good players and we should be playing better than we are.

I hope we can pick up a bit of form and get some points on the board pretty sharpish because everyone needs a lift and an injection of confidence.

I'll ignore the insults as I fail to see what purpose they serve and move onto your points of;

* giving roy till xmas

* giving him a few games to set his game plan into motion

I find it hilarious some people are questioning my patience as a supporter but never mind that, so, if roy is midtable at xmas what then?

what game plan is that? how is roy approching games any differently for liverpool than he was for fulham?

That's what I am saying Keni, he needs another striker to help shoulder the burden, as well as act as cover for when he is not there, things looked much better when N'gog came on, if we had someone decent it would make a huge difference.

the bottom line for me is away from home, roy has been too cautious and I'm concerned that is isn't going to change anytime soon.

cut through the difficult start to the season, the lucky/unlucky breaks, its the above point that has me most concerned. if that is kneejerk worry fair enough but it is a genuine concern nonetheless.

Spider, the point is your loyalty to the fat waster was at times worthy of an eye gouging session.

At least give the man 10-15 games.

This season is already a flop - but remarkably- most of us knew our fate before a ball was even kicked.

Giving someone more than 5 games before laying in the boot is 'blind support' in your eyes?

I wanted Benitez out and Hodgson in, but I've got no problem in admitting whether I was right or wrong to believe this - but coming to judgements and conclusions after 5 Premier League games is fucking stupid. Judge him at the end of the season - if he finishes 5th or 6th then he's done alright.

Benitez started taking similar abuse after years in charge and going a long time without winning a trophy and destroying our squad with disastrous transfers and squad management. Fair enough, Rafa's record allowed this time to be justified, but it doesn't mean we should all be Hodgson's back already. Anyone with any clue knows that some of this shite written today is just pure hysterical bullshit.
At least from some? Brendan and Gene maybe. But most of the posters in this thread are (unless I'm being whooshed) perfectly serious. They're also hysterical, classless and boring.

This is exactly why I didn't want Kenny to be caretaker manager. Because, five league matches into the season, having got pretty much the results everyone expected us to get, our manager is being called cowardly, spineless and mediocre.

It's bullshit.
kenny is neither spineless nor a coward so not sure why you're bringing him into this. roy meanwhile.... well even with those who like to back the manager regardless at best the jury's still out. as for being mediocre, well what has he ever achieved to prove otherwise?
If Kenny had these results, what would you be saying? And if you start giving us the "he's a club legend" bollocks then thats not a reason, that's favouritism. I would like kenny back but it's been a difficult opening to the season, with the club in turmoil. Roy isn't doing that bad
I can answer this one.

If Kenny had gotten these results, rage would have given him loads of time because rage saw Kenny on the Kop and rage saw Kenny win the title 20 years ago so he deserves more time to fix it.

Bull-fucking-shit.

If Kenny had gotten these results, rage would have been calling for his head saying that the board should have never made a nostalgic appointment yearning for the glory days when he hadnt managed a top-flight club for more than a decade.

HOidgson makes an easy target because he doesnt have a very good track record and he looks like a geriatric budgerigar.

I think his tactics werent so good at Old Trafford and were atrocious at Citeh and Brum.

He might have gotten better results had he been less cautious, but its easier to talk about those mistakes than to talk about whats really worrying. OUr team isnt playing well, and our good players are in poor form.

This was precisely why it was harsh to blame everything on Rafa, as the players deserve some of the blame.

The difference is of course that much of the players arent Hodgson's.

kenny is a legend and would at worst got the same results as hodgson. as for how i'd respond to kenny if that was the case, like you say i stood on the kop and watched a winner, no matter what you can't take that away from him and that is why he would be given more time and why i'd never refer to him as spineless, a coward or mediocre.

hodgson makes a good target because he's won fuck all and to date as a liverpool manager has behaved cowardly (at 2 nil down against city he did fuck all to change it as he feared a beating) spineless (as demonstrated today when he failed to push on when we had utd on the ropes). as for mediocre tell me what does the word means and why it shouldn't be used in reference to a man who's never won anything?
