I really don't understand what impact people were expecting, or what they'd expect from any manager.

Getting beaten by the scum at the swamp isn't new and interesting. Neither is drawing at Brum. The only fuck up he's made has been a dickhead of a lineup against Citeh, but you know, there were issues.
One thing I certainly wouldn't expect is that kind of surrender. Of course Old Toilet is a tough place to go, which is all the more reason to take your chance of a win there when it presents itself, as it did after Stevie's equaliser.
I don't think that's what happened. I think we fought back well and ended up unlucky. I think that Konchesky should have been on the near post for the first. I think Torres gave the ball away under zero pressure ten seconds before that corner. I think Berbatoss scored an unbeliveable goal. I think Carra was at fault for the third. I don't see what Roy did that was so terrible.
It's what he didn't do that I have trouble with. After 2-2 he failed to keep the team pressing forward, which not only would have given us more chances but would have made it less likely that the Mancs would get their winning one. I'm not one of those who are for dismissing him already, but I don't think he's made the most of what we have yet.
Do you really think that was his fault? The past few years we've worked our arses off to equalise and then gone back to sleep. I think it's the players you need to moan at.

The shoeing Hodgson is getting - at least from some - is just a bit of gallows humour. And I think we need all the humour we can get right now.
At least from some? Brendan and Gene maybe. But most of the posters in this thread are (unless I'm being whooshed) perfectly serious. They're also hysterical, classless and boring.

This is exactly why I didn't want Kenny to be caretaker manager. Because, five league matches into the season, having got pretty much the results everyone expected us to get, our manager is being called cowardly, spineless and mediocre.

It's bullshit.
Yeah, I noticed one or two unpleasant remarks in the thread, but I was mainly referring to Brendan's posts as far as the humour goes.

Some perspective from Oncy. Right on, brother!
I just dont see the point in overreacting to this particular series of games.
The ONE fixture you would 'expect' to win every time - WE WON
The ONE fixture you would 'expect' not to lose - WE DREW
The ONE fixture you would 'secretly think we would win' - WE DREW (after playing with 10 men for most of the game)
The TWO fixtures we KNEW would be a bastard were a bastard and we lost one heavily and one narrowly. The ONLY game we have been murdered in we played the wrong team thanks to a cunt of a player fucking us over 4 hours before kick off.

Nothing has happened that really shows Roy to be anything one way or the other yet. I know id like to see amazing attacking subs on 34 minutes when we arent winning, but in the real world this opening 5 fixtures has been what we expected TOUGH.

Cole has now had a full league game finally, and Meireles looks ok too. Things could be about to turn the (fabled) corner. I think we all may be pleasantly suprised in a few weeks time.

Depends what instructions they've been working to. Rafa had them playing that way on pain of losing their place. Today Roy either (a) left those instructions unchanged or (b) failed to get the players to apply whatever changes he did make. It's like for every game there is a ready made excuse as to why we shouldn't expect to win. They're a top 4 team, they don't lose at home hardly ever... you can write off half the games in a season using that kind of logic.

No, fuck that. Just call a spade a spade. We've had a dreadful start to the season. It is okay to say that and still recognize that it's early and Roy has had it tough.

I agree with this.

No-one is trying to claim that playing shit and having a poor fixture list are competing arguments. I whole heartedly agree ken. We're not playin well at all, however to disregard our frightful fixtures is folly. Fixtures are not a complete excuse, but lets not get excited and disregard

A fifty fifty first half punctuated with a late soft goal, second half more ofthe same then a wonder goal ... We claw back from 2 nil down against a team who should have been down to ten ... We lose ... Didn't lack fight didn't lack effort. I don't understand slagging the manager for today, it's gratuitous wank to suggest it's his fault. We played a better team away from home and lost grow some balls and get over it.

This sack Roy bullshit agenda is about as knee-jerk and fucking Newcastle as it gets.

Ps I'm a Rafa fan.and you can all get fucked. We are all rucking pissed off but ... Blame Roy ?? For what ?? He should have sent on Messi the dozy cunt..... Fucks sake...
you can't blame the manager for a wonder goal, you can however blame the manager for making defensive subs when the team is in the ascendancy, causing us to defend deeper and deeper, killing any momentum and handing manu an open invitation to attack us (like they need an invitation)
What fucking planet are you on Neil? What was the first sub he made?
I said ascendency I.e. When the game was 2-2 and we were pressing. Roy made changes to consolidate the draw.
Konchesky has had injury issues, he was subbed in his other appearances for the same reason, and Jova? Is that a defensive sub? Who did you expect to step off the bench?

Oh right, I see where this is going.
Has it been confirmed that konchesky was injured? The other sub to replace meireles with Jove reduced the momentum we had built up through the middle of the park, I'll also add that I've said before that it was more the cautious tactics of dropping deeper to almost defending outside of our penalty box than the personnel. Fact is we drew level and the defended deep after the subs, if people want to argue that point I'll leave it there.
You don't think we might have dropped deep because we were playing one of the best teams in the league on their patch and we'd fortuitously drew level? The subs had no real baring on the formation, or certainly Agger and Jova didn't, the only sub that effected the setup was N'Gog, which was positive and (regardless of his individual contribution) saw us get back in with a shout.

We defended deep for much of the game Neil, I don't think the subs had a real influence over it, we were clearly worried about United on the break and they caused us problems all afternoon and could have been a goal or two more to the good by that point anyway, they always threatened.
My word, aren't you full of yourself Brendan.

Agree with Mark that we've had some tough matches to start with. Dont think Hodgson is a good appointment for LFC, but he has to be given more that 5 league games to integrate 4 new signings and change the shite attitude of most players last season.

The team are not playing anywhere near their capability yet. If by Christmas the results haven't picked up then you can be the first to congratulate yourself about how right you were all along.

Fucking hell. I mean FUCKING HELL. There is some disgraceful shite on here.

Over the years I have read some utter, utter bollocks and seen some frightening knee-jerk threads , but this one almost took the cake, almost until some of the more sane posters came in half way through.

Fuck me, if someone had put the fixture list in front of me, I would have scribbled those results in, I might have had a point at City.

He put out a decent team today and one that I would have gone with, apart from Skrtle I think the changes made were positive , today I thought for long spells we looked as good as them and that has not been the case for a while. The difference was Berbatov , a forward in form.

Poulsen should just stick with Berbatov. He's the one making them tick this year.

Goal threats - Fletcher, Nani, Giggs, Scholes, Berbatov, Rooney
Vs.
Gerrard, Torres, Meireles, Cole.

That was before kick off. Poulsen DID NOT LISTEN.

This is a joke. It really is. Sure there can be excuses for every game but for fucks sake neil you can't come out with bollocks like this. I honestly believe some people on here WANT roy to fail, just so they can gloat about how they were right. Yes he was an unfashionable choice, yes he's not set the world alight, but FOR FUCKS SAKE in the first 5 games we've played 2 teams in the top 3, 1 team from the top 6 and 2 teams who should be beaten. 2 of the more difficult games were away. We were missing a key playmaker. We have a new midfield bedding in. We haven't got used to roys training methods yet

but EVERYTHING can be disregarded because it doesn't fit in with what people want.

5 games=15 points

pitiful

It does seem that the people who were most strident and abusive about Benitez, are now saying that Hodgson 'deserves time', because otherwise they'll seem a bit stupid.

But he's had 3 decades of management already. And he's mediocre. Always has been. Always will be.

Just because you wanted Benitez out doesn't mean you *have* to blindly support his really average successor.

Just go and look at his stats for Away games: it's a fucking *disgrace*

He should never, ever have been appointed as manager of LFC, and he's the worst, and least-qualified manager to ever get the job.

It's what he didn't do that I have trouble with. After 2-2 he failed to keep the team pressing forward, which not only would have given us more chances but would have made it less likely that the Mancs would get their winning one.

I wanted benitez out, i didn't want roy, but there's enough to make me feel we can improve. His away stats are shocking and that's not up for debate, but at the moment we seems to be playing very poorly and you can tell the players are still feeling each other out and roy is working out where he wants people. I honestly thought we played much better in the second half when we adapted to 4-4-2. N'gog did fuck all, but it opened space for torres to run into, hence the pen and the free kick

My faith in roy is failing, but i'm at least going to try and support him til december, and if we mess up that month then all hope is lost
