UFC

So it seems the UFC talk has died down here a bit, just wanted to chime in and say, Anderson Silva is clearly a god, maybe even the God we've all been talking about for nye on ~5000 years.

He really is on a different level to anyone else. Time and time again he makes chumps out of fighters considered at the top level of the sport.

Nick Diaz has been tossed from the fight with GSP due to skipping two press conferences. What a joke. He's been replaced by Carlos Condit, which should make for an exciting fight.

Also, Lesnar v Overeem at Dec 30.

UFC Live; Cruz v Johnson was a stellar free card. The main event was so fast paced I had to check several times to make surre I hadn't clicked fast forward on the PVR. Rumble looked great against Brenneman (though ref could have been better). Struve v Barry had a sick finish. And Wiman-Danzig was a worthy fight of the night.

Now I'm really looking forward to Edgar-Maynard III this weekend with an Aldo-Florian co-main event. Florian will come up short (again) but will be game while the lightweight title fight could go either way (I'm cheering for Frankie but Maynard is an ox at 155). All my friends are gone back home for Thanksgiving so I'm going to have to convince the girlfriend tO watch with me...

Very disappointing Cain Velasquez vs Junior.

Is that a spoiler?

quite, but I'm happy JDS won and hendo.

That was a good contest; Velasquez didn't look alert or sharp from the moment he walked up the stairs. He's never the most alert looking guy but this was worse than usual. He almost looked exausted.

This weekend's UFC card is looking stacked. Hendo v Shogun, Faber v Bowles and Wandy v Cung Lw. Also Bonnar v Kingsley should be fireworks. Prelims are stacked too. My housemate is out of town so Ill be footing the bill myself but thok Im going to order the card anyways.

it will be my third, actually, counting a strikeforce event I went to. But still, a San Jose crowd and local fighters, it's going to be an amazing atmosphere! I just saw Warrior too, it has me amped up.

Absolutely amazing main event. What a war. That should have been the fight on FOX if they wanted to showcase MMA. absolutely amazing bout. Potentially controversial result but one of the best fights in UFC history. A few of the fights elsewhere on the card werent quite as exciting as I might have expected (the Kampmann and.Bonnar fights) but no real snooze fests. And then to be capped off by that 5 round masterpiece. My girlfriend just got back from three weeks in Australia about an hour ago and though I miss her tremendously I think Im glad she said she was just going straight to bed and that we'll see each other tomorrow. Otherwise I would have missed the main event. So if you ever creep my history and find this post, baby, I love you even when you're too exhausted to see me!

Hard to put into words how incredible this card was. I still have goose bumps from that main event fight. I felt so bad for that someone had to lose that fight. I personally scored it a draw, with a 10-8 round 5 to Shogun, but it was going to be a difficult fight to score no matter what. I couldn't have picked a better card to attend, it was amazing from beginning to end.

wow

A night of vicious finishes. Wow. A couple results disappointed me, esp Soszynski and Hominic but overall a great night of fights.

This year in MMA has been insanely good. There were 3 UFC cards where I legitimately said afterward, "Wow, best card ever?", and now UFC 140 happened, and it's in contention as well. Just superb.

What is everybody's opinion of Jon "Bones" Jones ?

I don't see a lot of MMA fights, but whenever I've seen Jones, he's been a monster.

He's excellent. Very humble individual, always resoects his opponents! Has only one loss on his record which was a DQ for an illegal elbow which he shrugged off! He's only 24 too. Dana white reckons he's gonna be the next big mainstream UFC star and that he's the best pound for pound fighter in MMA.....both of which may well be true!!

I saw him on the Jay Leno show earlier this year and he came across really well. Humble (as you say) good sense of humour.

Kirstie Alley *well* wanted a piece of him lol !

I'm no expert but I think he's awesome.

He's a freak of nature, not just because he's an incredible wrestler, but because his legs look barely thick enough to support his body, never mind kick someone with.

The more popular the UFC gets the better quality fighters there will be. Simple.
Jon Jones is part of the new generation athletes taking over the UFC. I'd like to add Phil Davis to that category as well.

The days of the brutes owning the heavyweight divisions is over. The likes of Lidell, Tito, Shamrocks etc.

Jon Jones isn't a freak of nature he's just a well trained athlete, plus he's talented.

An Anderson in the making.

He may not be a freak but he's got awesome balance.

I am waiting to see someone attack his legs with consistency and see what happens.

His boxing is sub par though; striking may be good with his elbows etc but I don't think his boxing is anywhere near the elite. That said, hard to get anywhere near him when he's got such a reach advantage. The cut he opened up with that elbow was unbelievable.

Jones isnt particularly excellent at any one part of fighting, but he's good to above average at most elements. And it's the way he combines these elemens intuitively, combined with mentoring and gameplanning from Greg Jackson, the best in the game, that allows him to dissect and counter the skills of each opponent he's faced.I really think if he doesnt get stopped soon, at the rate he's improving and integrating his skills, he may become virtually unbeatable like Anderson. Of course, no one is unbeatable but he will soon be so far above the competition (if he's not already) that it will take something unexpected to stop him. I actually thought Machida had the best chance and he gave Jones trouble in the first round. But then Jackson noticed a hole in Lyoto's game, Jones exploited it and went to another level. Game over. It's frightening to watch him improve from fight to fight.

I dont like Jones. I think he's a cocky nobhead. Watching him fight is like watching a jean claude van damme film.

I disagree, I think Jones' wrestling is superb, and is some of the best in all of MMA, second to only GSP imo. His striking is getting better with every fight, and the thing I was most impressed with in his latest fight was that the kid can take a punch and react appropriately. He's not afraid of being punched. That was my one criticism of his, that he hadn't been punched yet and we haven't seen him overcome any adversity, really. Lyoto put him to the test, short as it was.

He will eventually be a heavyweight in 2-3 years, and that will be a very exciting sight.

On another note, I can't wait for Ubereem vs. Brock Lesnar, Overeem is my favorite fighter, can't wait to see him take that title from Junior!

Jesus that Overeem and Lesnar fight was like watching a man fighting a boy. JDS and Overeem should be a great fight.
