Trent, Salah and VVD

The club will have made Trent a huge offer, and Slot couldn't have done any more to 'win' him over. I’m not going to be overly critical of the club here. The real issue was whatever led to Edwards and Ward leaving, and then not securing a permanent replacement for Ward. But ultimately, none of that really excuses a boyhood Red deciding to walk away. If his heart was truly in it, he’d stay. If he wants to join Madrid, it’s simply because he wants to. Fans might point to some mistakes the club has made, but as far as I can see, Trent has no reason to take issue with the club. If he wants to join Real he just needs to own it, and people could respect it. If he starts whinging to the media that he 'didn't feel the love' then he deserves to get laughed out the city.

100% and AGAIN, go if you need to. But don't leave on a free and totally f us out of a 75M to 100M fee.

in truth I can't blame Trent, but being a fan I am disappointed. FSG have a long history of letting players walk for nothing then they plead poverty

From Trents POV there's no guarantee Real would commit to paying that. Real are notorious for getting players for cheaper than their worth. You either dance to their tune or the moves off. I'm not justifying it, but that's the reality.

If Trent does just run his contract down (and I do NOT believe that we've not tried to get him to resign), then how is he any different from Owen or McMoneyman?
He won the league and champions league with Liverpool. Neither of those two dickheads did that. He can rightly say he has won everything it is possible to win and wants a new challenge.

Actually we won a bit with Owen, and by himself Owen won an FA Cup, plus he was crucial to that Treble Cup win.

Yes there is an argument for a new challenge, but his reasons for leaving not justified. As much as Madrid have won stuff in UCL and domestically - it is not a tough league like here. Also him winning anything with LFC should mean more as a local lad, and he is lucky that he plays for one of the top 5 football clubs in the world. We are not a small fucking club that players should just jump to join Real/Barca, and we have a damn good group of players with a more balanced team than RM at the moment.

Can I also just add - that him leaving like this means that Slot and the club may have to adjust their plans to buy a replacement RB if they consider Bradly too much of a risk to play regularly. That means we won't be spending in other key areas of the squad next summer.

Call me an optimist, but I can remember vividly the night we were presented with our first league title in decades. Trent was one of the first up on the stage. He couldn't wait to get his hands on his medal, and later the trophy. But the medal around his neck, he couldn't stop looking at it, playing with it. A league champion with Liverpool. Like a kid in a sweet shop. He'd already won the European Cup, the Super Cup and the World Club Cup. But this was the one. It was special.
And if he goes to Madrid, where they prize Big Ears over everything, then he's not going to get that feeling again. Will he care about winning La Liga if they even win it? Would he get that same buzz? Not a fucking chance. Would a Champions League in white mean anywhere near as much as a league title in Red?
And here we are, 5 points clear. Still early doors, but where would you rather be? The new manager has proved he has the stones. It's on. Again. And if he's got another one of those medals around his neck before he signs a deal with anyone else, then he'll sign a deal with us. Because he'll want it again, and again and again. And if the three of them stay, he'll get it too.
And this time there'll be no masks, and social distancing, and staying at home on what should have been the most exciting night in decades. There'll be a massive fuck-off party the likes of which the city has never seen.
How could you leave all that behind to go and play second fiddle to Jude Bellend, Vinicius and that nob Mbappe?

Right, but SOMETHING.

Well said. And they EAT you alive at RM, and usually want you out after any kind of a downswing - think McMoneyman, Think Becks. There's no adoration over there for a fella who seems to want it from the fans.

He could have said that earlier though and then we could have sold him on.

I'd guess that he strung us along a little with the likelihood he would sign a new contract. Then when Klopp resigned that made his mind up and he may have said he 'wanted to see who the new manager is and how it works out', though with the potential for a large signing on bonus and his agent whispering in his ear so he gets his payoff too, he did nothing but let his contract run down. He's a cunt.

I think Salah and Virgil are close to signing new deals. Both want to stay and the club want both to stay. Those deals will get done shortly.

But, Trent, I'm not so sure anymore. For each day that goes by its looking more and more unlikely.
I'm probably fine with us not wanting to pay him 400k + to sign a new deal, if thats the case.
If we get past December and stories break that he wants to leave on a free then I'd fuck him off to the reserves for the rest of the season and play Bradley.
Lets hope he still signs, but thats the one contract I'm not sure about anymore.

There will be a Christmas video, released just before midnight Christmas Eve, with all 3 of them wearing LFC santa hats announcing that they are staying; the intro will be a retro flashback (probably in black & white) to Virgil under the Christmas tree in 2017

Would need better skills that i possess to find Vlad’s original thread but i found a post of me making the same claim 12 years ago 😂

Late to this, but you were claiming it 16 years ago! https://www.sixcrazyminutes.com/threads/fancy-dress-ideas-for-halloween.550/#post-44155

This is the side thread discussing it around page 16

But the original has been deleted, it was linked by Vlad a bit further down on the page. Assume it's unrecoverable: https://sixcrazyminutes.com/forums/index.php?topic=21209.0

It’s all I’ve got 🤣

Rumours suggest it’s also listed on my CV

It will be intresting when we face Real in a couple of weeks to see A) how they do against us
i) if we beat the convincingly will Trent re-think wanting to go there?
ii)will it make them want to sign him more?
B) If the beat us convincingly and trent has a average/poor game do Real curtail intrest in him?

My belief is that he does well for us, but will struggle at Real and in the Spanish league, Like Coutinho and others who have shone here and who have gone to Real only to have a few token apperances and never really heard of again or until the leave Real for elsewhere... Ribéry,Robben, van der Vaart etc

One match isn't going to change anything. I'd offer him a big fuck off signing on bonus to stay. I know the reasons for not, precedent and all that, but he's worth zillions so I'd bend the rules.

I agree. I've said it before that we have to treat all of these guys as if they are at other clubs and we're about to sign them on Bosman deals. That's how potential new clubs will be looking at it, those are the deals we have to match.
And then we have to never let it get this tight ever again with anyone else. If key players won't sign a deal 2 years out then you sell them and bring someone else in with the money.

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to reject offers to renew his contract at Anfield as Real Madrid press on with negotiations to sign the 26-year-old when his current deal expires next summer. (Relevo - in Spanish)
