Transfer Rumours

I did consider putting Son in that list, but I've not seen much of him, and his scoring record isn't special.

10-11 - 3
11-12 - 6
12-13 - 12
13-14 - 12

Aubameyang on the other hand I've seen several times, and I can assert that he'd be good value for even 20-25 million. He's like a right-footed Sturridge - probably a tad less skilful, but more willingness to run the channels. But with great pace, a very natural eye for goal, and like Sturridge, very smart finishing skills. His scoring record:

9-10 - 2
10-11 - 4
11-12 - 16
12-13 - 19
13-14 - 16

51 goals in his last 3 seasons - and unlike Holland or Spain, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga have stingy defences. You just know that's a kid who's going to score goals wherever he plays.

I'd definitely try and get him ahead of Bony.

Aubameyang doesn't seem to be a first choice starter for Dortmund though? Or is he?

What's the situation there and why would Dortmund be any more inclined to let him go than Reus? Particularly given that they paid not far off 20M for him themselves.

Don't know - I'm only speculating.

Stats say he started 27 times, with 21 sub appearances (all competitions - 21 and 11 in the league). Seems to suggest he wasn't first choice - might be the case since he had Lewandowski and Reus in front of him.

Dortmund have since signed Immobile and Ramos (who scored 16 goals for Hertha last year) to replace Lewandowski, so that's even more competition now.

Dortmund signed him for 13 million. So I think something like 20-22 million would tempt Dortmund especially if the player wants to move.

My thinking is that while someone like Reus or Lewandowski would view Liverpool as a sideways step from Dortmund, an African player might think a little differently - they love the EPL. Unless it's a Barca or a Real or a Milan calling, I'd like to think they'd always want to move to England. Especially if they're not exactly first choice where they are.

Well... we're sticking to our valuation, which at least makes it sound like we'll either get him for the right price eventually, or we'll tell Swansea to do one.

£19m is not the right price. Anything above £10m isn't. Throwing that sort of money at Bony would appear ridiculous. He'll be a back up striker.

What is all this last resort stuff? Jay Rodriquez a long term crock is our last resort? what a shambles if that is true, and a kick in the nuts to all of us.

With only one year left on his Liverpool contract, Steven Gerrard has hinted that the end of his time on Merseyside is nigh.
The Mirror has quoted the midfielder saying, "I've never really discussed it with anyone or thought about it. Maybe one day I would like the chance to go away from Liverpool for a short time and try something different." It sounds like Gerrard is preparing Reds fans for an exit then at the end of the season

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has told the Sunderland Echo that the deal to sign Fabio Borini is being held up by the Liverpool striker's injury but suggested the move may still go ahead.

He subsequently linked up with the Reds on their preseason tour before suffering a shoulder injury just 14 minutes into the friendly against Roma, but Poyet revealed talks have taken place and that a transfer could still take place. "He is being assessed now for his shoulder injury," Poyet said. "That's stopped everything a little bit. We will see. I have not held talks with him, but the club has, although that's private. We know where we stand."
The Daily Mail has reported that Poyet will not allow negotiations to extend beyond the start of the Premier League season.

And I'm sure I read somewhere he's only going for around €10m ?

The snippet I read yesterday (maybe it was Soccernet) even had him going for as low as £4m! All sounds a bit silly. He's returning from his post-World Cup break in August, so maybe things will become clearer then. Even rumours of the Manquillo loan move have gone quiet now.

I thought that was done (Manquillo) ?

Haven't seen any confirmation of the Manquillo deal anywhere though. He was still playing for Atletico Madrid in their pre-season game last week; not sure if he did in the one a few days back though.

Isn't Kevin Stewart a versatile full-back? Why sign Manquillo when we have him?

I'd be very worried if Stewart is supposed to be part of the rotation, at least based on his 2 or 3 performances in the pre-season. I don't think he's even better than any of our existing U-21 RBs.

If this happens it'll be the MLS.

I'm going to text the CEO of Melbourne City & tell him to get cracking on this now.

Extracted from an article in the offal, after today's game:

[article]Post-match, the manager was quizzed at his press conference on how content he is with the options available for the Reds as the beginning of the new campaign approaches ever closer.
:
Though six new signings have already been secured since a second-place finish in the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League, Rodgers is hoping to bolster the group further next month.
:
He said: "We still have some positions that we want to fill within the squad so that by the end of August we have a strong group of players to go forward with. We've still got some business to do."[/article]

Well, at least that's confirmation that we're still looking to address some areas, hopefully in the fullback and forward spots.
