Transfer Rumours

The way he's worded that is as if he's being forced out when he doesn't want to go, more so than he's being forced to stay.

Huw Jenkins:

"Wilfried Bony is a fantastic professional.
"If a top Champions League club comes in, and puts the right offer on the table, then of course we will speak to him.
"There are no issues with Bony. He's a great guy to have around the club.
"As much as we want players to stay with us for a number of years, we have to be open."

Macca on the transfer rumours site says that we're in for Bony now after the Remy debacle.

I'm not sure what to make of this.

In any other club, Bony would be a fantastic signing; but I'm afraid the ghost of Andy Carroll hangs heavily over this one.

25 goals last season alone. Carroll's scored 31 since 2010. And that included his half season at Newcastle before us.

Bony is a far more well rounded footballer. He can play.

Bony is no Andy Carroll on any level. He is much better as a footballer. Not an exotic signing but a very competent player who got 25 goals with Swansea. He would do significantly better with us. He may be exactly what we need.

From what I've seen of Bony he's also excellent at bringing other players into the game as well. Seems to drop deep quite a lot. With the pace around him that could be an extremely useful trait.

Bony is good at having the ball hoofed up to him and holding it up for other players. I don't know about you, but I'm done with that style of shite football.

Bony & Markovic would be a superb combination for us.

We'd be able to call them "Bony M".

If we didn't have Lambert i'd see a point in Bony as they are quite similar. But no way do we want 2 players of similar ilk and who aren't particularly quick.

On a side note, the equivalent thread to this on RAWK is locked pretty much every day - along with other pretty relevant topics. What the hell is wrong with those idiot moderators, treating it like a playschool. And why do the active posters put up with it??

I didnt think Lambert was "good at having the ball hoofed up to him and holding it up for other players". Having said that I thought there was more to Bony's game than that as well. Certainly from what I saw of him at Anfield in February, there was. Swansea dont play hoofball

Never understood it, tbh i've never understood RAWK full stop, all it really does is make the club and fans look like cunts.

This seems correct.

A couple of weeks back, I posted excerpts from an analysis on a Swansea fan's blog in the Bony thread. In the article, the author compared the different playing styles under Laudrup and Monk, with the former opting for a more direct game and the latter reverting to a system more closely resembling Rodgers' preferred style of play.

The author suggested that Bony played better after Monk took over, and the stats bear that out - Bony scored 10 of his 17 league goals after Monk took over, and also picked up 4 of his 5 assists in the same period. That's 10 goals + 4 assists in 14 league games under Monk (versus 7 and 1 in 24 games under Laudrup's supposedly more direct system).

Actually I think it would work pretty well with really pacy support around him. Too often when we get it upfield, 1 against 2/3, it's lost before the support arrives. With Sterling, Markovic, Coutinho, Ibe and Lallana there's plenty of pace to take advantage of someone who can hold on to it and then lay it off.

We could score a million goals playing direct football now and I still wouldn't be happy.

It didn't use to be like this.

LFC '13/14, BR + Suarez have spoilt football for me.

I think Bony and Lambert bring other players in differently. Bony brings others in with his strength and is more of the traditional target man (he's the better header of the ball) and has a nice burst of acceleration on him, though he's not as quick as the likes of Sturridge. Lambert is a bit more unique in that he's a playmaking striker; he was a midfielder turned striker.
