Seems like we're okay selling Phillps if we get 15 mill £ for him. Some turnaround given he was about to move for 2 mill £ a year ago.
Becuase of Nat and Kabak we have CL football Thier reward.... We sell Nat and don't sign Kabak, instead of moving both Gomez and Matip on

Kabak did get injured in the last few games - so based on that I'm not so keen. Another loan deal, why not. Nat I would 100% keep, the guy is made of adamantium. Matip I would sell, and Gomez if the right offer came in, and get a CB who can also play RB.

And if my auntie had bollocks she'd be my uncle. A lot of those players went because of their attitude and McManaman was the ringleader of all that. It was because he stopped being committed in the first place, not because of lack of ability, that the board tried to sell him. The fact that he had the unbelievable brass neck to get the hump over that just underlines the fact - and it IS a fact - that the conditions for him to become a legend would never, ever have come about.
That’s not the story I’ve ever read anywhere from anyone actually involved in the process. Where are you sourcing that from?

One of my abiding memories of McManaman (and I don't know why this one, particularity, sticks in my mind) was a match where we were attacking the Kop end and Macca was playing on the right (in front of the main stand). Ball gets cleared by our defence & there is a very promising break on, Macca has the ball, fully under control, on the right touchline, and two strikers (Fowler & Rush maybe) were in space, running into the penalty box. Just needed a half decent cross in & one of them would have scored. Macca, inexplicably, ran the ball over the touch line ...

At least that is balanced by my other memory of him, which is scoring a beautiful volley over his shoulder, direct from receiving a throw, on the corner of the 18 yard box,at Highbury

Ah - here it is (surprisingly cant find a video of the first one 🙂)

In fairness if you are picking our wonder goals his collection is up there with the best, Newcastle away, Villa at home, Celtic!

Gomez maybe bless with speed, but he does not read the game well and relies onthat speed tends to get him out of trouble most of the time, Philips for me, reads the game better as does Matip, but both He(Gomez) and Matip (A player that I really rate) are injury prone...

We (Liverppol FC) hold on to injury prone player way too long. So yes, Sell Gomez and re-invest that money on someone far less prone to injuries

Because of Gomez and Matip we won a European Cup and a title league. Their reward ... Donavan decides we should get rid
Most of that season we had our midfielders playing in Midfield... This season until Kabak and Philips they (Two of our best Midfielders) played CB, and only when we had Philips and Kabak where we able to change that. And the more the two played the better they became as a CB pairing.

But I guess you are rigth. let's keep two injury prone CB, and next season when we lose them again due to injury, along with either VVD, or IK, and Fab's picks up a long term injury at least we will have Henderson to for-fill that roll, unless he too picks up an injury... Maybe we can Loan back Nat Philips, and Kabak again

..and replace him with Tyrone Mings or Serge Aurier.

Maybe we could keep him, play him one or three games a season much like what we did with Jamie Redknapp, Daniel Sturridge and currently AOC, and pay them to stay on and in the end let them leave on a free....
Nice work if you can get it

Kane to Man City, Sancho to Man Utd. Back to old days of fighting for CL qualification for us I guess? 😕

I don't disagree that Matip reads the game better, but he's truly an injury prone player so I'd go with his sale if we get an offer. Gomez reads the game quite well IMO (at least as well as Nat Baresi) and has only just turned 24. You don't sell international level CBS just coming in to their prime after spending 7/8 years developing them. Young CBs get injured, it's common as all hell. If he's still having issues at 27 then you sell him.

Well done to Brighton for hanging on to him last season. Everyone seems to have money to spend except...

Arteta obv.knows full well how badly, and I do mean BADLY, the Arse need him. I rate him and reckon this could turn out to be a very good signing for them.

I keep seeing these murmurings that Klopp is going back to 4-2-3-1. Not sure where they're getting it from, other than thin air.

But if we are indeed doing that, it would lessen our need for a quality central midfielder somewhat. It could be that our funds are so tight, that Klopp has to change systems to make what he has work.

Building a British core as well? Saka, Tierney, Smith Rowe, Willock (Nketiah, Balogun, Nelson, Holding, Chambers).

Won’t be surprised if they hold an interest in Lamptey too.

[article]Philippe Coutinho looks set to stay at Barcelona despite his struggles since arriving at Camp Nou in 2018.

The Brazilian joined Barca on a deal worth €135million from Liverpool, but he would go on to spend a year on loan with Bayern Munich.

During that time, he won the Champions League, but he has struggled to make any kind of similar impact at Barca, only making 64 league appearance since his move, scoring 15 times.

Heading into this summer in the midst of a financial crisis, Barca could do with offloading some of their lesser-used big-earners like Coutinho, but it does not appear the 29-year-old is going anywhere.

Diario AS report that Barcelona are well aware that there are not likely to be any bids for Coutinho this summer amid his injury issues, and for that reason, they look set to give him another opportunity at the club next season.

That’s despite Coutinho only making 12 appearances for the Blaugrana club last season, though he did suffer a serious injury in December.

The former Liverpool star ruptured his outer meniscus ruling him out for the season and this summer’s Copa América, and he is still recovering from that issue.

Coutinho now looks set to return to Barca for pre-season when he will get another chance to impress Ronald Koeman ahead of the new campaign.[/article]

[article]Barcelona find themselves in the midst of a financial crisis, and while the Catalan giants will point to the pandemic and other factors, it’s clear that unfortunate signings have not helped.

Joan Laporta has started his second term as president putting out fires following his re-election with the Blaugrana club more than €1billion in debt.

Mismanagement at board level has caused that figure to soar so highly, and it would have helped if Barca‘s money was spent a little more wisely.

With that in mind, we have taken a look at two big-money signings in particular and the poor return on investment Barcelona have received since completing the deals.

Philippe Coutinho
It cost Barcelona €135m to lure Coutinho from Liverpool in 2018, but it is Bayern Munich who have seen the best of the Brazilian.

Coutinho won the Champions League with Bayern during a loan spell,
but he has not achieved any such fate with Barca.

The midfielder has only made 64 league appearances and 90 appearances in all for the Blaugrana, scoring 23 goals.

To his defence, Coutinho has not had it easy with injuries, and he was ruled out for the second half of last season after suffering a serious injury in December, but Barca still haven’t got what they have paid for.

Discounting the €8.5million fee Bayern Munich paid for his services, Barcelona have spent €126.5million on Coutinho.

That’s around €1.5million per game during his three years at the club and with 23 goals and 14 assists, it’s just over €3.41million per goal contribution.

What’s more, Transfmarkt now have Coutinho’s value at just €30million, meaning Barcelona face a huge loss on the midfielder, though it reported he will stay put for next season.

Ousmane Dembélé
Dembélé is another who arrived for big money in recent years, joining from Borussia Dortmund on a deal also worth €135million in 2017.

The winger has certainly contributed more to Barcelona during his time at the club, racking up 118 appearances across all competitions and scoring 30 goals, but injuries have plighted his efforts.

He has now missed 86 Barcelona games through injury, and he has just been ruled out for another four months after suffering an injury with France at Euro 2020, meaning he will miss the start of next season.

So far, Dembélé, who has been very unlucky, it must be added, has cost Barcelona around €1.14million per game and with 30 goals and 21 assists, he has cost just over €2.64million per goal contribution.

The numbers combined
The Coutinho and Dembélé signings combined have cost Barcelona €261.5million, according to Transfermarkt, and discounting the Bayern loan fee.

The pair have contributed 208 appearances between them, costing Barcelona around €1.25million on average.

Their combined goal contributions figure of 88 means Barcelona have paid an average of €2.97million per goal or assist between the two players.[/article]

Definitely won't be available on cheap

John McGinn sell-on clause, Liverpool and Aston Villa's £50m price tag which could land Hibs huge windfall
[article]The midfielder has been linked with a move to Liverpool and is well liked by their manager Jurgen Klopp.

McGinn’s performances at Euro 2020 haven’t gone unnoticed with former Manchester City star Yaya Toure picking him out as someone who impressed in the draw with England.

At the weekend, it was reported the 26-year-old was a £20million target for the Anfield club.

Aston Villa however, value their player at between £45m-£50million, according to The Athletic.

Such a sale would see Hibs come into some serious cash having sold the player for £2.75million three years ago, a deal which included a sell-on clause.

The Easter Road club stand to make 15 per cent of what McGinn is sold for, however 30 per cent of that would go to St Mirren.

A £50million deal would net Hibs a cool £5.25million after the Buddies get their slice.[/article]
