Transfer Rumours 21/22

Liverpool are interested in a potential summer swoop for Patrick Bamford, despite claims that the striker has already signed an extension with Leeds United.

Bamford has enjoyed an exceptional season with Leeds. This season, he has scored 15 goals from 35 appearances in the top flight and has chipped in with seven assists. His form has given him an outside chance of making the England squad for Euro 2020.

Indeed, it was reported earlier this year that Leeds plan to reward Bamford with a new deal to ward off potental suitors. That was after it emerged that Thomas Tuchel saw the former Chelsea man as a potential replacement for the misfiring Timo Werner.

It was claimed at the time that Bamford was contracted to Elland Road until summer 2022. However, The Athletic claims on Monday that the striker penned an extension last summer, with his contract now due to expire in 2023.

That will serve as a big blow to his would-be admirers. It also means that Leeds – while keen to offer him another new deal – have less of an urgency to tie the 27-year-old down.

Furthermore, that revelation about his deal could frustrate Liverpool’s apparent interest in Bamford. As per The Athletic they claim Liverpool have a growing interest in the Leeds star and were considering a summer approach.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp offered a glowing appraisal of the Leeds star prior to Liverpool’s recent clash at Anfield.

“What a player, Bamford!” he said. “I can remember, I’m pretty sure before the season I heard on talkSPORT, people saying that Leeds need a proper goalscorer, Bamford is not good enough, stuff like this. I’m so happy that he could prove them all wrong!

“He’s an exceptional player. The work-rate is outstanding. And he still plays the football he plays on top of that, and scores goals. That’s rare.

“They have a lot of interesting players, but Bamford, I’m really happy for him. I dont know him, obviously, but it’s a nice career, a little bit later than others but still very impressive.”

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa also had warm words for Bamford prior to Saturday’s 3-1 win over Tottenham.

The striker scored 10 in his first 15 Premier League games; before Saturday he had just four in 19. While his notch against Spurs means he now has 15 for the season, Bielsa admitted he blamed himself for his output slowing slightly.

“Bamford has qualities like the best strikers in the Premier League,” he said. “But the qualities in football are just the starting point.

“After what is put in place, the capacity to put your qualities in play and a collective play that allows the quality of this player to shine. All of this is linked to the decision and their efficiency.

“It’s to have a disposition at the right moment in the right percentage of the qualities to find it. Bamford is a very, very dedicated professional. He analyses the best scores in the world in detail, in the English league, in the Germany league, in the French league.

“The process to put on all the qualities a player has is what determines the dimensions of a player. There’s players who have very few resources, but put them on show to their maximum. Then some who have a lot of quality without putting them on show 50 per cent of the time. That proportion, there’s cases with less quality put them more on show than those with more quality and show less of them.”

Jan Aage Fjortoft, who has got decent contacts in Germany, seem to think we are interested in Sancho.

He's a championship striker having a good season

What the living fuck is anyone here thinking

Yeah, I was going to ask, isn’t he shit? - seems like a bit of a stretch that all of a sudden he’s the ideal man to knit together what needs to be one of the most feared and potent forward lines in football.

And when did he become a £60m pound player!!!!!

Fuck that.

Did you give up on alcohol abstinence, mate 🙂

On second thoughts, I take that back. The way Firmino, Origi, and Mane have played this season, that might be a more accurate description.

If you want an underrated player, get that Manc winger from Burnley, whatshisname...
*McNeil

I wish.

My fingers are still fat and shit at typing.

We don't compete on wages, and never really have in the last 20 years as far as I can recall. The highest paid players are usually on a multiple of whatever our biggest earners get and it immediately puts us out of the running for alot of the biggest names simply because they know they can get double their money elsewhere. That's why we have to get players on the way up because once the reach the pinnacle we just don't pay this wages.

Pogba is on £300k a week at Utd and his contract is up this year. You can bet he will be looking for £400k a week plus to stay there. Those sorts of numbers we just don't get involved in. It feasible for the Manchester clubs but not us
We spent more than United last year on wages. We have lower base rates but they are heavily incentivised. The wage bill has increased 95 percent since 2015.

It would be so us to sign Bamford.
I don't think for 1 minute we'll sign Bamford, just because the fee that Leed's would want would make it out of the question. Even if we did, knowing what Klopp get's out of players I would be okay with it. Klopp's 2 biggest failures are Kieta and Ox both players plagued by injuries which have hindered their development and progress.

Bonus payments aren't really the same as they are offset by the additional gates/prize money a club gains by winning competitions.

Utd have several players earning more than our top paid player. They have always paid more in wages than us for as long as I can recall. We may spend similar amounts in total but it tends to be because we bloat out our squad with overpaid back up players, but we dont pay huge wages to individual players. Of course we could bin Ox, Keita, Milner and Shaq so that we could £400k a week to Haaland but we won't.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, Utd have been left struggling to move huge wages like Rooney or Sanchez off the books. They may have the same issue with DeGeas £400k a week. But it does mean that there is a tier of players we are never in contention for because we simply won't pay the going rate.

£30m Liverpool target makes bold request, Klopp has personally studied his off-field behaviour

Jurgen Klopp has researched Liverpool target Yves Bissouma ahead of a potential transfer to Anfield this summer, according to The Sunday Times.

What's the latest news involving Yves Bissouma?

According to reports, Bissouma has asked to be allowed to leave the south coast club and is on the radar of the top clubs in the Premier League including Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.
Klopp has taken an interest in the dynamic box-to-box midfielder and should the Merseyside outfit be interested in paying the £30m valuation of the player, he could provide additional depth to Liverpool's midfield.
The absence of European football at fellow admirers Arsenal could reportedly damage the club's appeal and Bissouma would prefer a move to a Champions League side which could also prove problematic for the Reds, depending on the final league standings.
Has Jurgen Klopp taken a personal interest in Bissouma?

Indeed, based on reports from the Sunday Times, Liverpool have inquired about the availability of the Mali midfielder and Klopp has taken a particular interest into his personality.
The Liverpool boss has spent time understanding Bissouma's behaviour both on and off the pitch to assess if the player would be a good fit among his current crop of stars.

What are Bissouma's stats this season?

Despite just one goal contribution this season, Klopp will be interested in the other aspects of his game that make him a well-rounded, all-action central midfielder at Brighton.
The 24-year-old excels on the defensive side of the game and boasts 2.8 tackles per match, which would be the highest figure in the Liverpool squad this season, as well as 1.7 interceptions, according to WhoScored.
This season Liverpool have relied on a more possession-based style which Bissouma would be well accustomed to having recorded an 87.1 pass success rate in the middle of the park for the Seagulls.
Will Liverpool replace Gini Wijnaldum this summer?

Gini Wijnaldum is set to be available on a free this summer upon the expiry of his contract, having spent five years at the club in which he cemented himself as an Anfield cult hero after his semi-final heroics in Liverpool's Champions League success in the 2018/19 season.
According to the Times, Wijnaldum has agreed pre-contract terms with Barcelona where he would re-join former Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman who is in charge at the Camp Nou.
Klopp has been searching for a midfield replacement for the Dutchman, according to the Sunday Times, and alongside Bissouma the Reds have also been linked with the likes of Rodrigo De Paul, who could provide an alternative option if Liverpool find themselves priced out of a move for the Brighton man.

I do not have any problem with Bissouma and I think he will be a great addition. I would rather spend that money on a mega star signing or someone in the mould of Salah/Mane. It is just criminal that Klopp can not figure out, how to get Ox or Keita in the team on a regular basis when we need goals, dynamism and creativity from midfield.

I just do not know what our 30m signing would do over the whole season when we have Fabinho, Thiago, Hendo, Ox, Keita, Jones (considering all of them will be here next season, no loaning out please). It just seems one of those signings that we tend to carried away when such a player gets repeatedly mentioned or hyped in the media. I would say Bissouma should be our last priority depending on factors like where we finish at the end of this season

Of our midfielders you listed only one of them, Fabinho, is in any way similar to Bissouma. So actually Bissouma would be a great fit. A double pivot when required, a sub for Fabs when he needs resting, is injured or is drafted into the Back 4 (hopefully never again but ... never say never) and a ready made replacement for Gini (and look how many games he played this season even though nowhere near his best). Thiago can play the role but isn't close to Fabs / Bissouma in that position.

Ox and Kieta are Klopps worst transfer decisions, Ox we all knew had a history, and its a well established fact Kieta is from biscuit wafers. Wini is gone, so he would replace him. We desperately need a bob-box MF, often our MF is slow to static. I'd be happy to do swap deal with Kieta going the other way.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp does not expect to have a big transfer budget this summer to rebuild the Reds in a bid to recapture the Premier League title next season.

Don’t expect the likes of Haaland or Mbappe to rock up at Anfield but return of injured stars could be just as impactful, says Reds boss
Jurgen Klopp does not expect to have a big transfer pot this summer to re-build Liverpool in a bid to recapture the Premier League title from Manchester City next season.

The Covid-19 pandemic and the absence of fans in stadiums has hit all clubs with Liverpool estimated to have lost around £120m in revenue over the past year.
That will have a huge impact in this summer’s transfer market with Klopp predicting that no one will be able to afford to buy world class stars like Kylian Mbappe, Erland Haaland and Jadon Sancho.

Failure to qualify for the Champions League will be a further financial blow for Liverpool and asked what his transfer possibilities might be, Klopp replied: “Not a lot, anyway. If we don’t play in the Champions League that wouldn’t help obviously but it is not our biggest problem because the market will be really strange.

“I hear a lot about big money moves – is Mbappe going or not, Haaland, Sancho – I don’t see that happening because the football world is still not in the same place it was before.
“People talk about changing the football structure completely – like the German model – but I can tell you the budget will go down massively so [fans] having more say in the club’s decisions, changing the owner model, and then signing in the same moment Haaland for £150m – that doesn’t work together.”
On a positive note, Klopp believes having long-term injuried players like Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson back fit for next season will be like having new signings. “Getting the injured players back makes us already better,” he added. “These are our first ‘transfers’.”

Van Dijk, who has been out since rupturing knee ligaments in the October, has ended speculation that he could be fit in time to play for the Netherlands in the European Championship next month.

Klopp insisted the Euros were always going to be a non-starter for the central defender because the average time-scale to recover from his sort of injury is 11 months which takes him up to September, although he is hoping the player will be back for the start of pre-season training in July.
There was better news for England however. While Henderson will not be ready to feature in Liverpool’s final four matches, Klopp expects his captain to be fit and “properly rested” if selected by Gareth Southgate.
Klopp revealed he had texted Pep Guardiola and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan – who played under him at Borussia Dortmund – with his congratulations after City reclaimed the title from Liverpool following Manchester United’s defeat to Leicester.
“When you bring together financial resources and football knowledge then you have a good chance of creating something special and that is obviously the case with City,” he said. “They have an incredible squad and the best manager in the world so it makes a good recipe.”
Liverpool go to Old Trafford for their re-arranged game with United on Thursday night with Klopp refusing to blame Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for fielding a weakened team in Tuesday’s defeat that made Liverpool’s chances of making the top four even more problematical.
“I expected the line-up and I would have done the same,” he said. “Being told to play Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday is a crime. If we don’t make the Champions League it is not the fault of Ole or his players.”

Probable Liverpool team to face Manchester United (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Fabinho, Robertson; Thiago, Milner, Wijnaldum; Salah, Jota, Mane
