Transfer Rumours 21/22

Koulibaly is an odd one, he's world class everybody knows it. Probably isn't a back 4 in Europe that he wouldn't improve. But he's pushing 30 and his club have placed a prohibitive price tag on him after seeing the prices paid for VvD and Maguire. So somebody will either have to pay a big price for a CB that may only have a couple of good years left or he will see out his contract at Napoli by which time he's peak will be behind him.

I reckon somebody will bite the bullet this summer and sign him, but it will cost £50m plus so I'd be very surprised if it was Everton. I could see him at Chelsea replacing Thiago.

[article]Liverpool are eyeing up a potential move for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodríguez as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum this summer.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Reds have ‘followed up’ on the Argentine in case Wijnaldum leaves on a free transfer.

The Dutchman is out of contract at the end of the season, and so far, there has been no indication that he will sign a new deal at Anfield.

At first, it appeared that he was on his way to join Barcelona after their interest last summer, but that has now seemingly died down, with reports in Spain stating that the Catalan giants have decided to focus their efforts elsewhere.

That’s left the player in limbo, although an extended stay at Liverpool is more likely than not at this moment in time.

However, should he leave, it appears the Reds are lining up replacements, and Rodríguez is one of them, according to Estadio.

They say that alongside Arsenal, who have also been named as suitors recently, Liverpool have ‘followed up’ on Rodríguez, who would be a ‘more defensive’ option than the Dutchman.

The website doesn’t make it clear what this means, but it’s likely Rodríguez is just one of several players they are looking at ahead of Wijnaldum potentially leaving.

Still, this is the first time they’ve been described as being interested, so this is one to keep an eye on moving forwards.[/article]

I really don't think it would happen. He was a long term investment for Real, and is, so far, following exactly the plan they had for him (with a series of seasons on loan at increasingly better clubs). They are unlikely to cut him loose at this stage

Speak of the devil...

Barcelona are giving LFC first option on Coutinho. Player and agent are desperate for LFC. FSG would sanction a deal but are saying its totally Klopp’s call. So far Klopp has shown absolute no desire to take him back

Strange, if true. He’s not bad, like, but I don’t see anything too special about him. Lots of more interesting midfielders around.

Certainly won't come cheap

[article]Sander Berge is Sheffield United’s most prized asset according to a report published by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), with academics at the organisation estimating the midfielder accounts for nearly a fifth of their squad’s entire value.[/article]

[article]
Despite being linked with a move to Anfield last year, The Star understands that Jurgen Klopp decided not to submit a bid for Berge ahead of his arrival in South Yorkshire 14 months ago, when interest from Serie A posed the biggest threat to United’s chances of capturing the 23-year-old.

Although United are briefing that they have no intention of selling their £22m signing after being relegated from the Premier League - they enter this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Chelsea 14 points adrift of safety with only nine matches of the season remaining - Berge remains likely to depart as part of a restructuring exercise this summer.

The Norway international, who has not featured since severing a hamstring in December, recently revealed his ambition to play Champions League football again after featuring in the competition for the Belgian club.

It was then, after Genk’s visit to Anfield during the last edition of the tournament, that Klopp inadvertently sparked a flurry of speculation by praising Berge’s performance during the group tie.

However, no concrete offer was lodged with officials at the Luminus Arena.

Arsenal and Tottenham, who have both been approached by agents purporting to be capable of negotiating a deal with United, remain at the front of the queue to acquire Berge’s services with at least one other team from London known to be investigating his contractual situation before deciding whether or not to submit a bid. Although Berge could remain with United if no suitable offers are received, sources within the game expect at least one top-flight side to test their resolve when the transfer window reopens.

United, who are searching for a new manager after parting company with Chris Wilder on Saturday, insist they have no plans to arrange a fire sale of talent before returning to the Championship. However, some high-profile members of their squad look certain to depart as they attempt to prolong their careers at the highest level.

United, who are aware that publicly admitting as much would weaken their hand at the negotiating table, have yet to agree a new contract with Berge’s team mate John Lundstram.
