These figures show a basic salary of X, when you factor in the bonuses, LFC pay some of the highest wages in world football. So Salah is probably earning close to £500k a week

If this is right, then Neco Williams's agent is a fucking miracle worker.

He has been good and exceptional in one two occasions, but his had his mistakes. He isn't going to turn water into wine, split the moon, or divide the river Mersey. Div at best looks to generate £10m and Shaq though might be worth £15m, its likely he too will not fetch more than £10m. Doubt Edwards will be able to get the £30m plus he wants for both
As I said. Everyone makes mistakes but his record is exceptional. Can't be arsed listing them for your benefit - do your own research, it's been done numerous times on 6CM.

Nobody is making him out to be a miracle worker - I'd say most people just don't rate your opinion based on your gut feeling and not his record.

He seems to be good at getting the best deals on players who other clubs want to buy. He obviously can't get amazing deals on players who nobody really wants and/or players who we are desperate to get rid of.

We will blatantly have a really shit negotiating position for the likes of Shaqiri and Origi because everyone knows they never play at Liverpool, we are skint and we have too many foreign players. Edwards is good but his opposite numbers at other clubs are not likely to be complete halfwits.

I'm sure they're not, but Edwards getting as much as he did out of (for example) Sheffield Utd.for Brewster suggests at the very least that he's capable of maximising whatever advantage we might be able to gain.

Yes, I agree. That is what I meant. At least on the face of it, Sheffield United wanted to buy a good young striker who had done well the previous season and who we probably would have been happy to keep. I can't remember but I suspect other clubs were interested too.

So Edwards was in a good position to negotiate and seemed to do so extremely well.

With some of the players we want to offload now, we have very little advantage. I would guess with them it's a case of holding off until late on and hoping the buying club runs out of other options.

Exactly, it's all about leverage. We've done well selling mediocre or poor players to clubs who were desperate. But inevitably there are players we don't want to keep and find it hard to move on, in that scenario other clubs have us by the balls as they know we don't want the likes of Karius and they have no place in the squad so we only end up absorbing the costs if an agreement can't be reached.

Edwards has a good track record but I don't give him much credit for spending big on the likes of VvD ,Alison and Fabs. If you are paying record amounts for top players you don't need to be some sort of wizard. Where he has to earn his corn is the likes of Minamino who come in for a modest fee and become significantly more valuable. The last couple of those haven't been great.

No-one's claimed Edwards is a miracle worker, which he'd need to have been to shift the dross described in your first para. Your second para.I'm afraid I simply don't understand - if Minamino and others in the same category had become "significantly more valuable" we wouldn't be looking to move them on in the first place.

Yes, mostly agree.

In terms of the big money deals though, we don't know what the terms of the deal were. We know that we rarely have an awful lot of money to pay up front, so it is about structuring the payments properly. The clubs we are buying from don't necessarily have to make that easy, assuming that they want to keep those players so yeah, I would potentially give Edwards credit for securing those signings too. Doesn't make him a genius of course, and representing a club that is winning things and has Klopp as a manager certainly would have helped a lot, but I am sure that over the years there would have been times when we were not able to get deals like that finalised.

I'd like to believe there's something to this

Doku is 19 and therefore wouldn't take a non-homegrown spot. That's surely important.

He's quick, can play either side, and has big game experience for Belgium

Lots of boxes ticked right there.

Doku would be the perfect signing for our attack in many ways:
  • He's only 19, so doesn't need to take up a foreign player quota for another 3 years. I believe he might be considered home-grown after that - not sure about this.
  • Frightening pace and built like a tank, so he's ready physically for English football already. Exactly the kind of young player Klopp would love working with
  • Not yet old or experienced enough that he'd kick up a fuss about wanting to start every game, which a 24 year old might do. Perfect age for us to have him play off the bench for a couple of years, and then be ready to take over for Salah / Mane.
  • Ideal to throw off the bench when we want someone to absolutely run at a defence for 15 mins. I'd also be quite content with a Jota-Firmino-Doku front line when Salah and Mane are off playing in the AFCON. That attack would still have a hell of a lot of pace and goals.
