Torres - Liverpool Fans Still Love Me

Fernando Torres was 30 on Thursday and it would appear he had overdone the partying somewhat, as he's bizarrely claimed that "the Liverpool fans I have come across have had loving words for me." Put the bottle down, Fernando, you've clearly had too much.

The Spanish striker who left Anfield for Chelsea in January 2011 in a £50m deal, was speaking to Spanish newspaper AS on a wide range of subjects including his time on Merseyside, and once again repeated his "the fans don't know the real story" mantra before once again declining to set the record straight and tell us the 'real story'.

"I played three-and-a-half years there and they made me feel at home," Torres said. "The affection of the fans was tremendous and made me feel a quiet confidence."

Speaking about his reasons for leaving, he trotted out the same old lines we've heard several times before, both from Torres and also his former team-mate Javier Mascherano who had jumped ship a few months earlier: "They (the fans) haven't understood because all they've been told is the version that some people have given the club and the media. They have been sold something which isn't reality.

"I'm sure it's not easy to understand when a player leaves, but I have the thousands of letters I've received in London from Liverpool fans thanking me and now following me in another team. Last year we went to play at Anfield and a man over 70, almost in tears, thanked me and wished me the best.

"There will be every kind of reaction but the Liverpool fans I have come across have had loving words for me."

If I was to send him a letter. .

It would contain one word..

Cunt!

Things is I imagine many are just the same..

So this got me thinking.. If you where to write him a letter, what would be the content of that letter ?

I don't care anymore, and my disappointment at his decision (which was a very important one in turning our squad around) has been eliminated by Sturridge's admission of Torres 'promoting' Liverpool as an ideal place to play football. All forgiven Fernando -

I watched some of that LFC TV channel yesterday before I flew out, and it was showing some footage of him back in the day. I'd almost forgotten how outrageously good he was. There was a spell of 2-3 years where he was the best striker on the planet.

Not disputing his cuntishnes in the slightest like, but back in the day the boy could play.

Pussy.

It has to be said..

There has never been a song since that has generated so much of a Buzz..

Suarez song is close.. but its missing the bouncing...

That being said, he is still a Cunt though...

When is he going to reveal the great dark secret that he's always claiming we don't know? Is it in a queue at Wikileaks? I don't believe there's any gagging clause that prevents him from discussing his time with us, because he's done it often enough. Hopefully Carra, who clearly regards him as a piece of shit, will respond to this latest bout of self-justifying claptrap.

He wanted Liverpool to invest in the team, we broke our transfer record for Suarez and he still left. He said he'd never go to another EPL club and went to Chelsea of all clubs. He sulked on the pitch like a scorned child and contributed towards the problems we had as a team at the time. As for the Sturridge thing it was probably the realisation of what he was part of in Chelsea rather than what he left that led him to urge Sturridge on here. A brilliant player for part of his time here but sulked when the going got tough instead of getting stuck in and became part of the problem.

Loved him when he was here but now he can fuck off, he's a complete insignificance, a pitiful shadow of the player he was. I'm not really arsed what he says but neither will he get any thanks from me due to the way he lied and left the club as well as his pitiful efforts of performances over his last 12 months he was here.

Harsh, but fair.

I don't doubt that Suarez is a better player for us, but personally I've never got as much pleasure from watching back his goals for us as I used to from Torres's. The pace and elegance he had made him the most thrilling player I've ever seen for us.

The only difference between him and Suarez is that Torres got the move out of Anfield he was desperately seeking.

The Gerrard-Torres bromance probably brought out the gaydar more often compared to the Gerrard-Suarez bromance is because he simply just had better the looks.

I think a big part of the gay love for Torres at the time was that we'd been starved of genuine attacking talent for years and as much as you might love the Carra's and Alonos's of this world, nothing is better than having a great forward in your side.

I'll never forget that goal against Chelsea. I was like "Whuu... what just happened there. Did that just happen?!?".

Like what?

Well, I suppose relevant to that particular point, the main difference is that Suarez never sulked or let what was happening off the pitch affect his performances on the pitch. He never forced our hand quite in the same way Torres did.

Torres screwed his career up for the sake of money, period. I don't believe the "buying players/winning trophies" crapola - if that had been true the purchase of Suarez would have changed his decision, or at the very least delayed it.

The only question for me is whether Torres was the source of his own discontent or whether it was a question of his agents dripping poison in his ear. My bet would be the latter - Torres has clearly regretted the move ever since he put pen to paper. Even this stuff now is further evidence of that.

Torres escalated himself to hero status by ghosting past the Chelsea back line and scoring in his first season in a way we hadn't seen since Owen in his prime.

He made the fans happy again and made us believe.

I'll always have a fondness for him for his time here but now he's gone fuck him.

That song was insane and I love the above video at OT. That's quality but I think that Suarez song is really taking off.
I was singing it all Saturday night.

My letter would say thanks for making me smile and enjoy watching football with the excitement of a 10 year old does but you made the wrong choice

I still don't quite understand why he's nowhere near as good as he was. Is it injuries?

Thank fuck he went when he did - a shadow of the fantastic player he was before. And for £50m quid - lets face it if he had stayed we wouldn't be where we are now.
As for all the bollocks about the fans not knowing the truth - like the way he arrived in Comolli's office with his agent and told him that there would be an offer from Chelsea in the morning and he was off !! This 10 days before the transfer window closed. Thanks Fernando, nice bit of respect for the club.

Even if the move was solely motivated by money, which itself is doubtful, how would that have led to his career being screwed? It's not like he went to the MLS. He went to Chelsea, who were much stronger than us and have been until now, too.

The only reasonable explanation for his decline is injuries.
