Torres gone. Scum gone to more scum

We can still capitalise on it being there. If reports are true, bids are standing at around £35m (or £35m plus players). If we hold out until the Summer and play hardball, then there's more chance of a club bypassing us and triggering the clause. I'd be surprised if we got £50m in this window for him.
a club could only benefit from bypassing the negotiating process if

1. they are willing to offer £50m for him, and
2. we're disposed to reject such a bid

so the clause changes the situation from us being able to reject a £50m bid to one where we have to accept it. if £50m is acceptable to us then the clause changes nothing.

I agree with the first bit but not the second.

He's not worth 50m never mind 60m.
what's that got do with city though?!

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

taking that 50m and buying two quality wingers would improve us as a team, no question about it.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

The only way I can defend him going to a rival prem team is that he can't join Real, and Barca might not even be interested in him. To play CL football and have a shot in the immediate future of challenging for the title, the only teams that could afford him left would be City or Chelsea.

I'd be happy with £50m, he's only worth that due to being chronically injury prone.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

I can quite easily picture Tevez leaving citeh in the summer, which would open up a move for Torres.

One winger and one striker I'd say. But either is good.

He's worth what we can get for him, and we should hold out for all of it.

Two wingers and no strikers would leave us very short of quality options in the middle to put the crosses away.

Yep simly worth what clubs will pay, if City were in market, they would pay that easily.

He has outscored DJ Campbell by one goal this season.

Is DJ Campbell good enough for us ?

He's better than some of the players Torres is asked to play alongside.

I'm not showing him any sympathy and some his performances have been appalling - but I do see where he is coming from.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

We shouldn't sell him in England. I'd rather sell to Italy for 35m than to an English club for 55.

Squiggles - when his new salary is announced you'll see where he's coming from. Everything else is bullshit.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

So let's say Liverpool refuse to sell this window, what do people think the reaction will be like on wed? Do the fans get on his back or do they try and convince him to stay.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

I'd pay him £200,000 a week and make him sign a 6 year contract.. We'll have him throughout his peak till he's 32.. Then we will dispense of him when he is 'over the hill' at our convenience. Not his.

Or sell him for £60mill and buy the rising stars of the game (Hazard and Lukaku)

And look how good he has been ever since.

I would query whether Torres' peak is ahead of him.

Why? He's a liar. Fuck him.

Also he's probably already reached his peak... I can't imagine him improving further.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

Ros, as a lawyer what is your opinion regarding contracts with players? Can they simply walk away and if they do what recourses do the club have?

absolutely. his peak was 07/08.

i do feel a bit gutted about this because i loved him as a player, but purely from a hard-headed point of view, i think this could be a great deal for the club.

you have to be a 'little' concerned how we spend the money. we sold alonso and bought aqualini for example.

We can hold him to the contract, but it's the practicalities rather than the legalities that dictate the outcome. Why keep him if he's going to be a problem for us ?

i've already said more than once that i'm concerned about that - i know it's a long thread though.

but it COULD be a great deal for us, DEPENDING on the replacements. 😉

Aqualani who is actually a top quality player?

Regardless of that little debate though, it's a different manager, a new director of football, & new owners, so "we" didnt spend the money, "they" did.

if we sold torres and bought COMPETENT wingers (let alone outstanding ones) we'd improve as a team.
