Tony Evans webchat...

Tony Evans is so full of shit. That webchat is a chat with Evans and his opinions. He knows fuck all.
I know he's a red but he comes across as the most bitter cunt out there.
Full of himself and a massive dickhead.

I wouldnt take notice of anything he says unless it starts with Tony Barrett told me.

Yes. He's actually been doing this cynical routine since Rafa's day. Every so often he'd be on TalkSport declaring that our best players were all off and we were doomed. He's the Private Frazer of LFC.

Fuck me, that's not exactly positive, lets hope he's wrong.
Lucas and Agger out/Moreno not coming in can all be seen as positive depending which way you look at it, but no hope on Sanchez/Shaqiri, club thinking Migs is bollocks, playing Sturridge on his jack and not signing another quality striker - all bad news.

he did say that we would buy if we thought the player was right for us. He also said Borini would be leaving, so going from having 3 strikers and 1 out on loan, to having 2 is unlikely.

As said though, most (all?) of it is what has been rumoured elsewhere for a good while, I'm not convinced it's anything more than an accumulation of the latest stories doing the rounds.

Thanks Buddha. But Evans is not providing anything new, is he? His own [private] wishlist more than anything, seems like to me.

What makes you think this? I'm not being an arse, at least, not intentionally so, just curious.
He was thrown in front of a new back line, at a new club, with higher expectations. We didn't concede a goal until Swansea away, and even that was unlucky. And even then... Was that down to the change in personnel on front of him?

You find me a keeper at ANY club who doesn't make a blunder I'll show you the greatest keeper to ever walk the earth.

He's not a sweeper keeper at the minute, but that can be coached in to him. He's still learning that.

His distribution improved DRAMATICALLY over the season.

I've no doubt this season, when he's more comfortable, when he knows who the first choice Cb pairing is, and when they aren't getting pulled out of position by shite full backs, he'll be much improved.

De gea was a flappy cunt but he's turned in to a fine keeper.

Sure Mignolet has adapted to this league before, but when your team is Sunderland and your defence is camped in your box due to the perpetual onslaught, I'm sure it'd take a hit of time to get used to your new role

You're right, he does deserve time, and I don't think our setup helps at times by a) being so open and b) being made up of players who are prone to error - Skrtel, Johnson, Agger, Sakho, Toure all had gaffs in them last season, as did the protecting midfield infront of them.

Let's see what he's like behind a proper solid midfielder and a decent organiser at the back.

LFCZA @LFCZA · 59m Evans: " If they can get anyone better they will" #Mignolet #LFC 2/2

LFCZA @LFCZA · 1h Evans: "No one at Anfield is convinced by #Mingolet.. Doesn't talk, doesn't come for crosses, doesn't sweep." 1/2 #LFC #Mignolet
He didn't do any of those things before we bought him. Which begs the question...

Yes. I felt bombing Reina out of the club was pretty rash given that fact. As far as I can see, we either bought Mignolet and ignored those limitations and decided to gamble with him anyway, which seems absurd. Or we bought him with the view that he could be coached very quickly to improve on all of those aspects, which seems much more plausible but still not a good enough reason to immediately jettison the old first choice keeper. If it WAS the second reason, then presumably it was thought Achterberg was a good enough keeper coach to speed this process up. Now that surely WAS a mistake. I'd have thought a priority now is to bring in a genuinely top class goalkeeping coach.

reina wanted to leave.

The Evans explanation of it being a purely financial exercise makes the most sense perhaps?

reina wanted to leave.

Well he damned well didn't sound like it with all of his weepy open letters. Anyway, Suarez wanted to leave as well. You don't usually let them go until it suits you. Brad Jones is hardly a great option to fall back on if your new keeper fails to progress quickly enough.

reina wanted to leave.

I think there's even more to it than that, I think Rodgers wanted players here who were fully committed, and having seen him constantly whoring himself around Europe over the last few seasons, he bombed him out. When Rodgers came in, I don't think there was anything realistic on the cards for Reina, a move to Barca was looking like it was gonna be another year away. Then there's the wages too.

Agree with a fair bit of that, macca, but one aspect it doesn't cover is the part played by Reina himself in all this. He looked pretty uninterested in more than a few games when he was still in the side, and there were occasional quotes from him in the media which sounded too much like him trailing his coat in front of Barca for comfort. The weepiness came later after the prospect of a move seemed to fade.

Oh yes, sure, although he did lose the weight and improved a bit after the first part of the season. I'm only saying that it was a bit cavalier just to boot him off before Mignolet was even tested OR bring in better back up. Rodgers clearly disliked Reina so as you say there was no surprise with what happened, but it was still a bit rash. The thing now is that we have a great outfield coach who genuinely improves players, but we have a goalkeeping coach who doesn't improve keepers - if anything, it's the opposite. So at the very least we need to up our game in that area.

Exactly, all stuff like talking, sweeping, coming for crosses can be coached. De Gea has had a pretty rapid turnaround. If that's down to Chris Woods, we should get him in.

that sort of presupposes that a goalie is dependent on a good CB and Mid - you could argue that having Ming at the back, no authority and error prone, is causing the defence to suffer....

Mignolet will never be a really decent GK. If he stays it's because we have more urgent priorities. He's no more than a stop-gap.

What a fucking disaster holding onto Reina's proven to be, btw. Lost £20m in value in about 3 years. We need to be far more ruthless about selling when good opportunities come up, in future.

Exactly the same thing has happened with Agger too.
